Perhaps we should do a Greatest Hardcore Bands Of All Time?

It would add some discussion, this place is pretty slow.

sketchyjoe 03-16-2006 03:47 AM
As much as I'd like to agree...

minor threat, gorilla biscuits and possibly 7 seconds > bb
GB come close but Bad Brains are better than Minor Threat and 7 Seconds.

Didn't we do that before?

No?

My bad. :/

Black Flag > Bad Brains > Minor Threat > 7 Seconds

That is really close though. They are all basically the most important.

sketchyjoe 03-16-2006 09:54 AM

Black Flag are overrated. They're great, but Bad Brains and Minor Threat are better.

whiteminority 03-16-2006 09:56 AM

True, they are overrated but they laid the groundwork for all hardcore bands (except Bad Brains) and they were fucking the greatest band on tje planet until Ginn became a paranoid pothead. In my opinion.

Like I said though BB, Flag, and MT are all basically tied for best hardcore band but they are seperated by little things.

The technical ability of Bad Brains and HR's voice are what make them so unbeatable.

whiteminority 03-16-2006 10:27 AM

I guess you got me there. You are one of the few people I know of that like HR's voice most people I know say he sounds like screaming injured rat terrier.

StandingStill 03-16-2006 10:47 AM

HR is a great vocalist. He recorded vocals for 'Sacred Love' down the phone from a prison, this also makes him untouchable.

whiteminority 03-16-2006 10:58 AM

It makes that version sound so weird compared to the version I have on The Youth Are Getting Restless the one on I Against I is ****ing awesome a lot more spacey.

That is awesome.

HR personally inspired Rollins to pick up a microphone. Every 7 Seconds song sounds the same; they have some great lyrics, but are definitely not one of the best hardcore bands. Minor Threat...I have nothing to say about, but they still don't touch the Bad Brains. Bad Brains pushed the boundaries of punk rock, and even when they refined their sound, still created amazing music. EVERY record they put out has been great...INCLUDING Rise and God of Love.

Bad Brains were amazing no doubt but some of the later albums where it was just that dub stuff were pretty sub-par.

A-Life-Less-Plagued 03-16-2006 02:05 PM

that was one album...and it was mostly just dub versions of old songs. I haven't heard it though so I don't know if it's any good. I forgot about that.

I don't understand what 7 Seconds are doing up there with the other three.

Though I understand Bad Brains' importance, I've never really been into them. Except for "Bad Attitude", that song ****ing rules.

whiteminority 03-16-2006 02:10 PM

I thought there more than one, but whatever. Bad Brains kick ass and were basically the first hardcore band but I think Flag were just as if not more essential to Hardcore. And they fucking rocked.

Reiner mentioned 7 Seconds.

obese_breasts 03-16-2006 06:51 PM

Fuck yes! I'm seeing Paint it Black and Shook Ones in a month.

StruckEverywhere 03-16-2006 08:00 PM

7 Seconds own you faggamuffs.

AndreTheHyena 03-16-2006 08:24 PM

I didn't say 7 Seconds weren't good, they're just not on par with Black Flag or Minor Threat, and to think they are is ludicrous.

faith and fiction 03-16-2006 08:28 PM

Bad Brains are the best. Everyone should accept it before HR kicks their a'ss.

For being bloodclot faggots.

Dillinger Four have a great live album in which they get drunk then end up filling in when Bad Brains don't turn up and before the show HR calls them to explain why he couldn't make it and they keep playing the message on stage.

A-Life-Less-Plagued 03-16-2006 08:44 PM

The dub stuff isnt sub-par. Its a little generic in terms of dub, but I think they were trying to introduce a different audience to that kind of sound. After hearing that I introduced myself to a whole new genre of music.

whiteminority 03-16-2006 09:16 PM

I mean I dig Dub and Reggae but I just thought that the stuff that they put out was sub-par but that's just me.

kingdead 03-16-2006 09:47 PM

"The excellent Suicide File from Boston are getting back together for a one off tour of europe/UK it will be the last thing the band ever does. The decision to finally bring this band to the UK came together after a handful of reunion shows the band did last May in the USA.

The line-up consists of all the original members Dave Weinberg, Neeraj Kane (ex-Hope Conspiracy), Jarrod Alexander (Hope Conspiracy, Bars, American Nightmare, Throwdown...to name a few), Jim Carroll and John Carpenter."

Made my day.
