Woodstock 09-10-2004 10:26 PM
oh. thought you were talking about the dvd...heh
Yeah, I heard about it. Doesnt look worth the money, not endorsed by any bands so no real stuff.

lunch998 09-10-2004 10:26 PM

I thought the History of Rock N' Roll Dvd might be cool, but then I thought it would probably be just the most popular stuff about the popular bands in rock history. So that seems like it would be sort of cool, but probably not 80$ cool.

Seafroggys 09-10-2004 10:29 PM

The Who w/o Pete Townshend.

I was trying to think of The Beatles, but removing one member wouldn't honestly change much except you'd no longer have their type of song that they wrote. Now to me, that's a great band.

I knew the Beatles were invincible to the question :)

RockAndRoll 09-10-2004 10:32 PM

I wish there were modern music classes in school. Just not in such away that you've got your rock 101 class bursting at the seems. Something like the history of modern music (jazz, blues, soul, funk, rock, country, etc... ) and it would talk about how they all came to be and what they are.

lunch998 09-10-2004 10:32 PM

I don't know, if you took anyone away from The Who they wouldn't be the same at all. So it's hard to single out just Pete.

I actually beleive the beatles without lennon would be nowhere near what they were. I beleive he represented best the ideals that were an essential part of the group.

I beleive the others were great musicians and songwriters, but it just would not be the same, they would not be remember in near the same way they are now if it were not for lennon.

Mankind_ 09-10-2004 10:43 PM

eck. just read that ernie ball died in a thread in the guitar forum
Give an example of a band that would be nothing without a certain member.

(New Game)
Easy. Crazy Horse without Neil Young.

thickasabrick 09-11-2004 12:30 AM

i actually think it was neil young with crazy horse, they were a band themselves, just with him out front.

ledpepper 09-11-2004 12:30 AM

holy ****, long thread. anyway, to the original question, it really depends what you call classic... like led's classic, but is hendrix??? i mean they where about the same time so technicaly it is...

i listen to mostly old stuff like led, gunsnroses, hendrix... but also some new **** such as rhcp and floggin molly

billy_joe 09-11-2004 01:34 AM
We don't have enough classic rock talk in R&M. Which is why I don't post here alot :thumb:

My music taste has seriously changed since I made that most a few months ago. However I still like all of those bands.

My friend was playing a computer game the other day. I'm not a big fan of computer games. anyways the soundtrack from what I heard was Amazing.
CCR -Deep Purple -Neil Young
Good to see computer games acknowledge Classic Rock

Bob Seger is the single most underatted Singer in the histroy of rock and roll.
Underatted singer, but overatted songwriter to me.
Yea he's overrated. He rhymes a lot of the same words together. A lot.

If Pink Floyd didn't get Gilmour after Syd, they might have gotten Jeff Beck, but it wouldn't be the same.

It might have been Battlefield Vietnam. My cousin has that game, a lot of the soundtrack is from the 60's. The title screen has Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit. That is a cool song. :thumb:

RockAndRoll 09-11-2004 10:11 AM

White Rabbit's an awesome song.

Spectrum 09-11-2004 10:13 AM
White Rabbit's an awesome song.
Agreed. I believe The Blue Man Group actually covered that song recently.

Really.

I did also hear about the whole "Battlefield Vietnam" thing, and I think it's neat that a game finally has a good soundtrack.

Computer nerds don't like music...

I'm confused

I'm confused as well, for I am a computer nerd, and I have a better taste in music than half of the high school I just graduated from.

Its supposed to give the game the feel of the 60's, with the whole war thing going on. You can like turn on the radio in jeeps and stuff. By the nerds don't know what the music is. Just the people who are watching them play.

Broken Arrow 09-11-2004 10:17 AM

Ohohoh, the Blue Man Group, i bought their complex rock tour DVD the other day, cause a frined said i'd love it, and they were right! The put on an AMAZING live show from what ive seen. One of the most unique 'bands' ive seen in a while,i love their precussion driven sound. The lights and everything... the editing was top notch, there wasnt a bit of the DVD i didnt like. They did a bit of Crazy Train by Sabbath as well, it was really cool.

DVG.

It's hard to choose. I just love CCR in general. I have one of their songs stuck in my head right now... it's one of the more well-known songs, I just don't know the name.
