Hm...

You could try the R&M version of Canon in D, but that's pretty cliche I guess.

Shattered_Future 06-05-2006 06:14 PM

Going Away To College by Blink-182.

I'm not sure, actually...just try to pick something with that theme.

GenuineImitation 06-05-2006 06:16 PM

He wanted more of a hard rock or metal vibe. He's also graduating from 8th grade, not high school.

Daven 06-05-2006 06:16 PM

Maybe Blue by APC.

Shattered_Future 06-05-2006 06:17 PM

Walk This Way by Aerosmith. That should work rather well, no?

EDIT: Or maybe Are You Ready by Creed. I think both would work rather well with the situation...

Txus 06-05-2006 06:17 PM

Vitamin C - Graduation Song :p
Walk This Way by Aerosmith. That should work rather well, no?
Never thought of that as a graduation song...

Shattered_Future 06-05-2006 06:22 PM

Meh, it's got the line "Walk This Way!" in it. Nobody cares if it's about sex. :p

Recommend me some metal. I've been getting more into it, and I need more metal bands in my collection, more heavier stuff. Some metal bands I like are Pantera, Damageplan, Meshuggah, Soulfly. I'm open to pretty much anything, just not like black metal, seeing as I'm a Christian and all.

+ Overkill and Dark Angel

GenuineImitation 06-06-2006 01:02 PM

Also add Symphony X, Nevermore, Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica, Children of Bodom, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Nightwish, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden to that list.

That's a little confusing; you're not interested in black metal because you're a Christian, but you've no problem with Slayer?

Bartender, where does he mention Slayer?

Thor 06-06-2006 03:56 PM

Can people give me some technical metal bands to check out? I already listen to:
Arsis
Necrophagist
Death
Cryptopsy

Gorod comes to mind.

Shattered_Future 06-06-2006 03:59 PM

Technical doesn't bring Arsis to mind...

Canvas Solaris
Gorguts
Cynic
Atheist
Aghora
Behold...The Arctopus

All should do good for you.

Haha, like I said, I keep an open mind. The only song I know by them is Raining Blood, and it's so cool, I just have to listen to it. I edited it out though, since if that's the only song I know by them, I'm not really a true fan.

I'm not like one of these crazy "metal is evil" types, I'll even listen to songs that question religion, like Eulogy by Tool. I just figured since a lot of black metal bands are against Christianity it would be tough for me to get into, you know? I just said black metal as an example. I even listened to some black metal bands that I hear talked about on mx, like Burzum, Immortal, etc. It's just that in metal, especially more extreme metal, that's what a lot of the bands think, and it would probably be tough for me to get into that stuff since it attacks my beliefs.

Stoic 06-06-2006 05:30 PM

Immortal dont have such lyrics if Im not mistaken.

Scoot 06-06-2006 06:04 PM

If anyone is into At The Gates or Dark Tranquility, Omnium Gatherum is a great band with similar properties.

If you're interested, maybe Black Sabbath.... although Black Sabbath doesn't class themselves as "metal", more hard rock. And you might like to check out Bruce Dickinson's solo work.

I find Gorod to be a pretty good band - I love the vocals too.

Aside from the tech/prog death metal bands that have been mentioned I also like Quo Vadis, Opeth and Akercocke.

Fair enough. Was just the inconsistency that bothered me.

It was.

It seems he edited Slayer out of his list. You can see him mention them in the post I quoted.

help me, please!

who sounds like dredg if anyone?

Add Novembre into that list and it's killer.

Try Porcupine Tree. It's more progressive and not exactly the same, but you should like them if you like Dredg.

Clann Zu and Porcupine Tree

They're both better, too.

I've been trying to get hold of some Demilich for ages, but I haven't managed to find any.
