Bob Geldof isn't doing this one is he? It shows.

Jim 02-17-2007 09:34 PM

Yeah that's a really bad list. I don't even think Pink Floyd would elevate it anywhere above average.

Riva 02-18-2007 05:34 AM

Heh, without Bob, it looks like Bono wouldn't bring U2 to the party either.

The good thing about Bob organising things is that he has all the connections from his Boomtown Rats days. Hence; The Who, Pink Floyd reuniting, etc.

This is just mediocre modern rock and pop for the most part.

rippa32 02-18-2007 07:32 AM

The less Bono the better. Not only is that guy an egotistical *** he only gives to poor people for publicity.
You can see this better in the movie. But also if you watch any live version then you can see it as well (with Roger the doctor, stick a giant needle into the wall)

I'm looking forward to this Live Earth...
Haha, you may have put all of them in bold.

Dragon_Prince 02-18-2007 12:02 PM

Who here has heard the whole Zabriskie Point. I don't mean the soundtrack, but the album, which has like 10 tracks on it.

aww there's Akon as well. What a gip.

MattSharpIsCool 02-18-2007 06:37 PM

The Chilli Peppers and the Foo Fighters are the only bands I would even care to see on that list.

Enrique Iglesias is still around?

rippa32 02-19-2007 09:22 PM

I think both those bands are pretty average, which is a shame cos there the best the mainstream has to offer these days.

MattSharpIsCool 02-19-2007 10:29 PM

I can understand about the Foo. Ya, they're pretty average, but there's just something about them I like.

But at least the Chilli Peppers have some originality. I would say they're probably the best that mainstream music has to offer at the moment.

rippa32 02-19-2007 11:41 PM

Ah well, it's all based on opinion anyway. So back to Floyd. Does anybody know of any video bootlegs with Syd?

Danger Bird 02-20-2007 12:22 AM

Look on youtube, there's tons of syd videos

Jim 02-20-2007 03:04 AM

And oldskool floyd clips where they basically **** around with various props for a couple of minutes and tack it onto a song. I imagine they would cringe watching it now :P

rippa32 02-20-2007 06:09 AM

Im talking live actually.

MattSharpIsCool 02-20-2007 10:30 PM

I found a pretty cool video of the Floyd playing Astronomy Domine in 1967 or something on Youtube. Syd just stood at his microphone flapping his arms like wings and singing occasionally.

Oh snap! I found Animals on vinyl today. I'm listening to it right now. I found Wish You Were Here also, but it was pretty beat up, so I didn't grab it.

Riva 02-20-2007 10:32 PM

Yeah, I have that bootleg on my comp.

Pink Floyd Live at the Beat Club, amirite?

I love how Syd just looks so mystical, especially with the shadow in the background. The black and white enhances the effect, though seeing the trippy colours would have been nice too. :p

MattSharpIsCool 02-20-2007 10:54 PM

Ya it does look really cool with the shadow and the flashing lights.

rippa32 02-20-2007 11:54 PM

Somewhat unrelated but didn't they used to jam in front of weird light projection setups?

MattSharpIsCool 02-21-2007 12:04 AM

They always had light shows in their early concerts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGRwQV_XAz0

That's the video me and Riva were talking about. I guess Syd sings more than I thought he did, but that's sort of an example of their light show. I think they were normally a little more intense than that, because I think that performance was on a TV show, so they toned it down a bit.

Jo Shoe Wah 02-21-2007 04:19 AM

Yes, a friend of theirs would put various tubes with cellophany stuff, and different shapes/circles across it to make patterns of light, to which they would play music based on.

Can't remember who it was, but Roger talks about it on "The Syd Barrett Story", which by the way, was a very interesting and slightly upsetting dvd to watch :(

Riva 02-21-2007 06:15 AM

Yeah, that was during the band's time as The Pink Floyd Sound and The Pink Floyd, I think...

rippa32 02-21-2007 07:13 AM

Really? I assumed that was the official clip for Astronomy Domine, ive seen it before.

Riva 02-21-2007 08:22 AM

I've put up a big playlist of Floyd to listen to tonight as I sleep. Haven't done it in a while, so should be interesting to see if I have any unusual dreams/sleep patterns.

Full albums tonight, but tomorrow night I might just put a randomised one on.

Surf 02-21-2007 09:31 AM

I've tried it before, but I sleep too deeply for it to have a real effect.

I made a playlist which was basically Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking broken up with about forty other 'weird/trippy' tracks. Didn't do anything.

MattSharpIsCool 02-21-2007 11:08 PM

I need to try that sometime. I normally don't remember my dreams, but every now and then I have a crazy one. Maybe that would help.

Ephemeral 02-21-2007 11:28 PM

Roger Waters is coming to my city. idk if I want to go though :/

Go, its an incredible show.

Jo Shoe Wah 02-22-2007 06:09 AM

^^ This

Look back a few pages for some comments on the show, it was amazing.

dUSK 02-22-2007 06:23 AM

123 on the Roger Waters show being amazing. I saw Isis the following evening and they were terrible by comparison (and I fucking love Isis).

I also have a bootleg of a show he did in September 2006, which was obtained from the following link. The quality is quite good. Give it a listen and it should get you excited enough to want to be there.
