the Zildjian site not working for ya Hellmo?

HeLLmO 08-24-2006 07:33 AM

well, it is, but the sound clip i'm gettin' is just a stick hitting the bow once

mullets suk 08-24-2006 09:05 AM

Are 15" New Beats any good for a good click sound when played with just the foot? Also what are there tone when they are played open and closed??

Also sabian AA 20" ride, what does that sound like, i cant get to a store to find out so any info would be great.

HeLLmO 08-24-2006 02:15 PM

k, i hate comin' to you guys with these questions, but has anyone ever played a 21'' Meinl Byzance Dark Ride, i just heard the clips on the meinl site and indoorstorm.com and i feel in love. so, who know the crashability of this ride, or dark rides in general?

MXicanDrummer 08-25-2006 06:16 PM

So ya, what cymbals pair well with Sabian AAX's?
Crashes I mean

The 15" will probably be louder and darker then the 14" I own 14" myself. They are absolutly awesome, definitally go for them.

I prefer the 15s to the 14s TBH. 14s are abit to meat-and-potatoes for me, but the 15s have a very nice quality to them.

I don't think this deserves it's own thread, so I'll ask in here.

I'm going to drill my B8 ride, since the way it is now, I have no use for it. I'm hoping to get a usable sound out of it, because I'd love to have 2 rides, but don't have money to blow on another ride, and don't want to buy a stand for it the way it is now.

So what would you recommend as to size of holes, number of holes, placement of holes?

Honestly I don't have much preference as to what this turns out as. Chances are I won't use it anyways, but what would give me the best results?

We_Love_Lime 08-26-2006 02:31 PM

Three small holes placed closely together.

Like Peter Erskine's Left Side Ride.

I did this:

To a 16" pearl crash and this:

To my old pearl hats.

I used a size 4 drill bit and just drilled a nice pattern.

Zildjian 08-27-2006 01:07 PM

your crash is keyholin

Bloodlust 08-27-2006 01:11 PM

Hey guys, im looking for a china. I want something with fast decay and a nice defined "PANG" sound. I want it to be like ...dry is the word that comes to mind. I was looking at the AAXtreme china, probably and 18 incher. Any other suggestions?

Cocaberry 08-27-2006 01:12 PM

Wuhan maybe?

Bloodlust 08-27-2006 01:30 PM
Wuhan maybe?
i'm looking for a ride that will be equally well adjusted in a small jazz swing ensemble and a heavy rock band, i'm currently thinking about the paiste 2002 cool ride, but i wanted to know if anyone's had any experience with it to see if it has a good jazz sound

Kayne815 08-27-2006 07:28 PM

im looking for a nice main crash that isn't too over-powering in the mix and versatile enough to be played in various musical settings. i play mostly rock and some heavier stuff.

i just find that my 18" AAX Metal Crash is too over-powering over my other drums and cymbals. so if i could find a main crash and use that as a secondary that would be great.

K-hybrid
Paiste 22" Sig ride is good too

18" A custom fast crash is perfect, not over-powering whatsoever
18" A custom fast crash is perfect, not over-powering whatsoever
sweet thanks. i checked it out online and it says on zildjian.com that they're 'paper thin', so would they be prone to cracking in rock playing?

drummguy731 08-27-2006 07:50 PM

umm, mine holds up perfectly, it really depends, are you much of a hard hitter?

Kayne815 08-27-2006 07:57 PM

i don't think so. I have a sabian 14" AA thin crash, and i don't hit harder that i have to. mind you i hit all my cymbals on the edge.

drummguy731 08-27-2006 08:11 PM

like, you mean you hit the outer lathing on top of the cymbal, or directly on the rim, so the cymbal hardly moves at all?

stevensonmat2 08-27-2006 08:25 PM

Thin cymbals arent prone to cracking. Theyre less likely to crack than thick ones.

drummguy731 08-27-2006 08:33 PM

yeah, but if your hitting them directly on the rim, that'll definately crack the sooner because the cymbal isn't moving at all.

stevensonmat2 08-27-2006 08:46 PM

tis word

i think the outer lating on top of the cymbal. hitting it directly on the rim is retarded

TTTSNB 08-28-2006 11:46 AM

i think the outer lating on top of the cymbal. hitting it directly on the rim is retarded
No, it sounds really cool actually, just don't hit it too hard.

Kayne815 08-28-2006 01:23 PM

really..............hmm i guess i never really thought of trying it. sounds cool tho. i should check it out sometime.

Static 08-28-2006 08:04 PM

I agree with TTTSNB, the sound it makes when you hit it on the rim sounds really nice. I'm a soft player, and that's what I tend to do anyways.

Hey Sean, did you go to the Nook today around 3:15?
