We cover a few Pain of Savation and Symphony X songs too... But I wanted to start a metal band, like Pantera or Slayer or something... To do in my spare time.
You're pretty lucky to be in a band that can cover DT (and Symphony X). I'm in a band with a guitarist that likes DT and could play some of their songs and in another band with a drummer that could probably play some of their songs, maybe I should start my own group. |

With me and shamed-angel:naughty: . |
There's been a lot of showboating lately.. put your skills where your mouth is. Post some DT solos!
We've got an E.P of our own stuff coming out soon... But I'll record the metropolis solo for you if you like... I'll need to buy a new midi sound card, but It's worth it for you guys.
With me and shamed-angel:naughty: .
:lol::D:lol: |

If I could record, I would do the Metropolis bass solo. Post 666! |

:lol::D:lol:
That would be cool. I love the Metropolis solo. Do you follow it exactly, or do you add your own style to it? |
I can record, but I can't play any decent DT solos.
Happy 666th post Roo_Bass EDIT: YAY, HAPPY 500TH POST TO ME! |
I've still only ever met one person who can play the entire of Dance of Eternity. And that's the guy who got me into DT when I was 11... :upset: He was incredible. The Bass solo is meant to be a musical progression on the Metropolis Pt1 bass solo, it's just insane.
That would be cool. I love the Metropolis solo. Do you follow it exactly, or do you add your own style to it?
I pretty much play it the way JM does, albeit not quite as precise. |

I think it took Portnoy about 10 attemps to play on Liquid Drum Theater or something. |

I think it might have been more like 20, and pretty much every song he did in 1 or 2 takes. |

Have you heard him try to count it on there? It changes time signature almost every bar. The whole song itself has 19 different time signatures. My favourite of which is the 15/8 passage... with the guitar and keyboard solos. I think that is the song that shows off their talent best. Easily. |

Post 666!
I like your user title better. I used to have the same one. :thumb: Do you realise that your user title is the binary code for your current post count? I need to practice more, I can play hardly any DT. |

I used to spend alot of time in the bass forum, but now it's full of ego's and elitists. Not a nice atmosphere in there at all.
Haha, it's funny when he is counting along to the 'shrink and grow' section of Fatal Tragedy. 1, 2, 3, 4, Riff...
Yeah. I like it on Live At Budokan, on the bonus DVD, when he says to the guys, "Can anyone help me with something? Last night, I counted us out of the Beyond This Life solo 3 times." |
The rythm for the most part, is not a problem for me. I have difficulty keeping up with the speed during the solos. I just need more practice I guess.

Same reason I stay out of guitar. I used to practice both Guitar and Bass quite a bit, but I moved away from my Bass at the beginning of the year, and I had a massive downgrade in Guitar equipment, causing me to lose interest. Things should pick up again in a few weeks though. :D |

Haha, Christmas time? I'm hoping for an Ashdown head to go with my Ashdown cab and replace my shitty Hartke head. |

Yeah. And when J.P is singing, and he goes "Did I mention... YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" That's hilarious!

Yep, well not anymore.
I demand that you delete an old post this instant, and start a new account. You were legendary for a moment there. :p
Haha, Christmas time? I'm hoping for an Ashdown head to go with my Ashdown cab and replace my ****ty Hartke head.
 That actually wasn't what I was thinking of. I've never recieved any musical equipment for Christmas/Birthdays. What I meant was that I'll be finished uni for the year, and will be heading home for the holidays. |
Yeah. And when J.P is singing, and he goes "Did I mention... YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" That's hilarious!
I love JR's 'weird' way of playing Run to The Hills. Instead of going like this..*plays air keyboard with one hand*..he goes like this...*play air keyboard with two hands*. |

Haha. The guy is really funny. When him and Jp are rehearsing in the dressing room, to the harmony solo from Metropolis. And he's playing air keyboard and humming. To top it off, JP goes "You missed a note there." |
You guys who want Live At The Marquee, I'll AIM it too you if you want.
that would be cool. My AIM is rock15guitarist. |
Hahaha they are such funny guys. My favourite DVD quote has to be from Kevin Moore though, on Live in Tokyo when that Japanese girl is getting their autographs, then she says something to the camera. Then Kev goes "she just said "I don't really like Dream Theater, but I had a pen, so what the fuck"".
|
James's vocals on that far surpass any vocals Charlie has done. I'd like to hear him sing Status Seeker though. Charlie's vocals are good on that.

I've never laughed at a band so much in my life! Night Night boys and girls... I must get to bed. School tomorrow. :upset: |
What are you people talking about?? Where are you seeing all this stuff?
|
On the bonus DVD on Live At Budokan and on Live in Tokyo. Sweet Dreams.

I was so close to ordering the When Dream and Day ReUnite official bootleg DVD today, but the Ytse Jam Records site doesn't accept Maestro cards :upset: They get Charlie back to sing a couple of songs on that. |
They re-do the album with Charlie, and play Metropolis and a few other songs from that era.

 That bit is great. Derek Sherinian was also a very funny character: 'What are you doing today Derek?' 'Making history, and you?' |
