He's an idiot... he didn't even review Scream Bloody Gore.

everyone knows Death were at their best and most influential before they went all wierd.

IheartSP 01-31-2006 05:01 PM

I've never read any Death lyrics. I hate Cannibal Corpse with a passion because their music and lyrics sound like they were written by giggly little 12 year olds. I'll check out those Death lyrics for a laugh though. I only have Crystal Mountain, nothing really gory about that album.

That debatable. I personally enjoyed their later work best myself, but that's neither here nor there.

Point is, twatbucket there is a classic case of poseur.

IheartSP 01-31-2006 05:11 PM

I just read a few songs off Scream Bloody Gore. Certainly more well written in terms of lyrics than Cannibal Corpse, not even close to as gross. I Cum Blood almost made me boot, this didn't even move my stomach at all. From the tabs I've seen the music is just as simple and boring as cannibal corpse tho. I can only take so much tremolo picking and powerchords in the chromatic scale.

Yeah, I take the influential part from basically it being the blueprint for alot of the Norwegian Black metal scene's early guitar work.
Nocturno culto of Darkthrone based his entire guitar sound on that album.

JausmetalJ 01-31-2006 05:17 PM

And here.

Dragonforce SERIOUSLY needs to come to f'ckin Aust. NOW!

Like THIS SECOND!!

Woah...
this thread got another half page...

This was in relation to Shattered Future on page 142

Granted, it's not a very impressive album from a technical standpoint. But I heard one or two songs off of it, and it's pretty intense nevertheless.

I'm thinking more on how they were able to transcend the sterotypes of the genre and re-write the rules, but anyway...

I didn't notice this before, but the poseur referred to Children of Bodom as death metal.

Lord Abortion 01-31-2006 05:29 PM

Yeah, I really like SBG. it's got alot of excellent riffs on it.
I'm thinking more on how they were able to transcend the sterotypes of the genre and re-write the rules, but anyway...
Eh...I'm quite happy with my genre stereotypes...
the poseur referred to Children of Bodom as death metal.

oh dear...that's like an intelligence test, and he failed miserably.

IheartSP 01-31-2006 05:34 PM

Where I live the Bodom fan intelligence test is what other bands you listen to. 90% of the Bodom fans other favorites are Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, and As I Lay Dying. The other 10% is Stratovarius, Kalmah, Wintersun, etc. I think you can all see why I hate this place....

CaptainWaits 01-31-2006 06:16 PM
Nocturnal Rites... ****, that's hard. Think of a raspy style singer a bit like Tony Martin or some of Mamsteen's early vocalists, music which is speedy like Gamma Ray with the same kind of hooks but a heavy Arch Enemy style production and crunch. Great stuff!

VP... Hmm... again, really hard to describe. They toured with Sonata Arctica quite a few years ago (before disappearing off the planet for about 3 years) and that match was fairly good, although they're not as speedy as SA and the vocals are much lower. I couldn't really think of a band off-hand they sound like. Dungeon did quite a few shows with them and that music just always reminds me of them more than anyone else, so I don't know if I'd be the best person to ask, to be honest!

EDIT: They'd likely have some samples up at http://www.vanishing-point.com.au I'd say!
Thanks a bunch again man!:thumb:

My desicions been made...

I noticed that as well. What a retard.
And they released the same song about 8 times on each album, with a few that are slightly different...
I'll say it again, when I hear COB, I hear the same elements again and again.
anyone here know Steerpike's email? he wanted me to email him some stuff off the new Edguy album, but i don't know his address.

Alright, so I'm looking for a little help...

My local CD store has a few CD's in of bands where I've heard of the band, but haven't actually had a listening experience with the band. So I'm asking for your help! They are...

Nocturnal Rites - Afterlife
Vanishing Point - ??? (something "Dream")

Any good? And what are they comparable too??
I have that album (Afterlife) at my local store. I should pick it up too.
Man, I love Sonata Arctica...

I'm seeing Dragonforce, Edguy and Sabaton tomorrow.

Fuckin' metal!!
Bastard.

IheartSP 01-31-2006 06:27 PM

Now now Riva, I don't want no trouble.

Man, 4, possibly 6 out of 1500 here even know what actual metal is. You don't have it half bad.

IheartSP 01-31-2006 07:16 PM

Did I say 90? I meant 99 lol.

Shattered_Future 01-31-2006 07:59 PM

Still, at least people near you LIKE metalish stuff. Around here, there's NOTHING.

Deth 01-31-2006 08:02 PM

I have the token kids who blast Atreyu all day. I think there's about a dozen kids in the school of 5000 who would explain the difference between death metal and power metal.

Shattered_Future 01-31-2006 08:07 PM

I think here, once again, 4 people can distinguish between power and death metal. And it was pretty much all because of me.

Deth 01-31-2006 08:12 PM

Same with me. I'm the sole provider of power metal into that school.

Steerpike 01-31-2006 08:25 PM

Around here there's a few guys who like Children of Bodom and Opeth. But sadly, none of the womenfolk are with it. Most of them prefer pop or country.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-31-2006 08:28 PM

There a few people on my area who like metal. One of my friends is into power metal, and one gu who used to be into heaps of metal, but listens/plays mainly to hardcore now. He still enjoys a metal though. He went to Dungeon with me.

IheartSP 01-31-2006 08:36 PM

In my school of 800 me and my friends who I've exposed are the only people who can tell the difference between any sort of metal.

most of my school listen to pop-rock, or dance crap (friggin chavs) and probably haven't even heard of bands like mayhem, emperor, darkthrone, edguy, sabaton, etc. i don't listen to black metal or death metal much, but at least i know that the genres exist.

I wish I had never heard of Mayhem

My drummer goes to another school and over there you find a lot of extreme metalheads. The closest any of them come to Power Metal is Bodom, but I got my drummer into all sorts of stuff. A friend of mine from another town was into similar stuff but I got him into Blind Guardian and Wintersun and plenty of other stuff. We need to devise a pay it forward system to try and spread metal knowledge across the world.

MetalOz 02-01-2006 08:59 AM

I wanted to thank whoever was promoting Thy Majestie, I picked up Hastings 1066, very good stuff.
I also got Dream Evil - The Book of Heavy Metal and I must say that they have the cheesiest power metal lyrics ever!

Steerpike 02-01-2006 10:39 AM

Still, it's not nearly as bad as dealing with the uber-poseurs. I've had to deal with people who thought Iron Maiden was hair metal, that Slipknot was death metal, and that Evancescence was Goth metal.

Stoic 02-01-2006 04:09 PM

^Now this is scary...

I'd be the first to admit I know very little about explaining genres to someone, and moreso, to say I have heard very little metal compared to you guys. But bloody hell, If someone I knew claimed slipknot were death metal, I'd be afraid I wouldn't be able to control my fist.

Also: http://ultimatemetal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4453401&postcount=201

That sorta thing REALLY gets my goat (I don't really own a goat)

Ugh.

We should send out a metal Pamphlet or something.

IheartSP 02-02-2006 05:24 AM

I have heard people call Iron Maiden "screamo"

They see my Number of the Beast shirt, assume they are a really heavy band, and don't know the proper term for bands that "scream" even though most metal doesn't have what I'd call screaming...so they call it screamo. I thought that was like the most hilarious thing I'd ever heard.
