Haha, my German teacher gave me a website that gives streaming links to radio stations all over the world. I'm listening to Deep Purple on a Dutch radio station, kinda weird but pretty sweet.

Thats pretty cool, can you give me the link of the site?

You can search by genre or location.
Queen are a band you redneck!
There are so many things wrong with this post.

I about peed my pants when I heard "Melissa" on the Cingular/AT&T commercial.

I took my iPod speaker to school today because we hijacked the biology class. We have had a really soft-spoken sub all week, and today we just walked in with drinks and chips and cups and music and had a party. She just kind of sat there with this stunned look on her face, and told us to keep the music low, as long as we played good stuff  Then we just listened to it in a bunch of classes for the rest of the day. I think I listened to Hotel California about six times today, everyone loves that song. I had to keep the volume low because the speaker has 2 subwoofers, and if you have it at a good listening level the room shakes. I honestly think if I turned it up all the way it could shake a building. Powerful little bugger.

MidnightRider 03-01-2006 04:52 PM

There's nothing like tormenting subs. We had a very nice Indian woman sub for my math class a while back and this kid ran over to the window and yelled, "Look Ms. Ahmed, you're camel's running away. It was pretty funny.

Freud, I don't know if I can handle seeing your posts with correct capitalization.

The only CR commercial I can think of is Zeppelin's Rock N' Roll being on some car advertisement.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow.

Glitterati 03-01-2006 06:39 PM

So I might be doing work experience at a music store soon. This could be pretty sweet....leaving school every once in a while to go hang out and listen to music. Should be fun!

This thread I hate to say is in horrible condition. I mean the past 50 pages have been 95% spam and when ever an interesting topic comes it's drowned out by like five last FM reports, it's getting really annoying. If this keeps up, I can't promise I'll be here when the new thread begins. That's how bad it's getting. I beg of all the big time spammers (you know who are) PLEASE STOP THE SPAM IN HERE! Go to the Pit or AIM each other if you really want to continue this spam fest.

What does everyone think of Forever Changes by Love?

Boring upon first listen minus a few songs (A House Is Not a Motel, Alone Again Or, Andmoreagain), but after multiple listens it really grew on me. Everyone kept saying how wonderful, but I the first like 5 listens I couldn't even make it through some of the songs.

I've never heard Love, but I have heard Arthur Lee from ChrisGoesRock. Love is on my bands to look into more list though.

Spam: like Schyma says the spam is getting rough in here, and I know that I am guilty of this too. It's just getting hard to respond when every post consists of "I just bought...", "I'm listening to...", "Does anyone want to send out..." etc. I love it here when we discuss bands, ang those posts don't contribute to any kind of discussion.

jpj 03-01-2006 07:26 PM
"I just bought...", "I'm listening to..."
I don't see how that's spam. It's usually a good way to start a conversation about whatever it is that the person is talking about.

I'm listening to Love right now :) Anyone want me to send it out?

robo2448 03-01-2006 07:31 PM

Forever Changes is awesome. Such great songwriting. Arthur Lee gets pretty overlooked as a guitarist too. Some of his guitarwork is pretty good and his solos really fit the mood on the song.

Personally, I don't really mind spam as long as their is something related to music in the post. If you want to tell some funny story, I don't mind, as long as in the same post you say something about music. np-... doesn't cut it, but if you say, I'm listening to... right now and then you continue to say something about the band or song or ask a question about them then it's fine. As long as the post is focused on music and gives us something musical to talk about.

For example, right now I'm listening to a band called Pax that I got from Chris. They're pretty good. Pretty heavy with some great guitar work. I'm listening to them cover Deep Purple right now, and they've kind of got a similar hard rock sound to Deep Purple but without the standout keyboards and with more of a psychedelic feel.

I don't think it starts much good discussion; it's too vague.

I'd like to have it.

jpj 03-01-2006 07:42 PM

Not if they add a little substance to it, like robo said.

That's cool. I'm still on my search to find a music store to get a summer job at. Faith No More is great. The album "Angel Dust" in particular is one of my favorites of all time. Patton has such a great voice.

I like "Forever Changes." I actually haven't listened to it much but it's good. I like Calexico's cover of "Alone Again Or" more than the original though. I think it's the singer's voice.

jpj 03-01-2006 07:54 PM
I like Calexico's cover of "Alone Again Or" more than the original though. I think it's the singer's voice.
As do I.

Angel Dust is the only Faith No More album I have, but from what I can tell Mr. Bungle > Faith No More.

Glitterati 03-01-2006 07:59 PM

What does everyone think of surf rock? I've been listening to Dick Dale a lot, and I've been trying to find some other stuff like him.

JonG 03-01-2006 08:18 PM

You're right.

More talk about the Dead.

..

I just bought Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Strong Persuader(Robert Cray).

BigTrav415 03-01-2006 08:20 PM

It's not spam if it relates to Classic Rock :smash:

In other news, I love the Allman Brothers Band. Discuss.

EDIT: Fine, I'll respond to something :-/

I just learned my friend really likes the Dead. I have never known him to like music that much, he mostly listens to electronica-style pop or whatever, nothing at all specific to genre or anything. You know the type, they just kind of listen to random songs. Nothing wrong, I just really never expected him to like them. He came up to me today and said "Hey, have you heard the song Passenger by the Dead?" I was like  Apparantly I introduced him to them some time back, and he downloaded a bunch of stuff. Pretty awesome.

JonG 03-01-2006 08:30 PM

'moon, if you read this, write back.

I was looking at the Sputnik reviews and you gave Go To Heaven a 2 :(

I think it's better then that :P

robo2448 03-01-2006 08:41 PM

Since everyone's talking about The Allmans and the Dead, which does everybody prefer? I hate to not even be able to answer my own question, but I'm somewhere in the middle. Eat a Peach is better than anything the Dead would ever record, so the Allmans' peak was better than the Dead's. But the Dead have stayed consistent and good throughout the years, whereas the Allmans peak was short because Duane died right in the middle of Eat a Peach and Berry died right after.

And on a completely unrelated note, Al Dimeola is awesome. I think Jon sent this album out a really long time ago but this is the first time I'm actually listening to it. Excellent guitar playing. And the percussion really stands out as well.

And on another completely unrelated note, is AIM not working for anyone else? I keep trying to log on, but it's not working for me. And I don't think it's my computer, because I obviously have internet access if I'm posting right now.

JonG 03-01-2006 08:50 PM

Elegant Gypsy?

Or PG&F? I didn't send that out, although I have it.

Of course, I prefer the Dead. Although, I've been listening to Live at Fillmore East a lot more. Stormy Monday and Statesboro Blues are amazing. Duane's solo in Stormy Monday sounds exactly like B.B. King would do.

Lunch 03-01-2006 09:02 PM

I have to go with the Dead based on the longevity of their productive career. They have a lot of different eras that are all appealing to fans. The Allmans recorded some of the greatest music ever in Eat a Peach and Live at the Fillmore but unfortunately couldn't keep going with such great music.

I remember we were going to have this debate awhile back, but that was before most of us knew much about the Allmans or the Dead so we wanted to wait. We never got around to it, but maybe we should since we have many educated regs among us now.

Ok, so country rock is my new thing. I like the sound of Flying Burrito Brothers and Gram Parsons. Can someone point me in the direction of some more? It could even be straight country, as long as it's old school. Thanks :)

You alrerady have some NRPS stuff right? I'm pretty sure you do, but I can't remember.

If you don't, that's a necessity.

Definately.

Get some Poco if you can. They're excellent.

Lunch 03-01-2006 09:11 PM

My dad was pretty big into them but I hadn't really heard of them before he brought them up. I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned very much in here. Anyways, I think he plans to get a couple of their albums.

I remember thinking they were "too country" for my tastes, but now I bet I'd enjoy it. Sadly, I don't have those albums anymore. I could always listen to my dad's NRPS vinyl when I go home though

What's Poco like? Any starting album suggestions?

Lunch 03-01-2006 09:15 PM

I could upload either the NRPS s/t or the Adventures of Panama Red tomorrow for you. Those are classic.

I would have more of them, but everytime I search on Soulseek, some classical shit always pops up first, and I never find any.

They're excellent, I just have their GH I believe. 2 discs.

I have "The Forgotten Trail."

It's good.

That would be cool, I'm not having any luck with them on my torrent site.

I'm not sure how updated this is, but if you want me to upload anything in return (or anyone else for that matter), I've gotten a lot of stuff lately.

What do you guys think of Tales From Topographic Oceans? A lot of people hate it but I think it's great prog. Losts of nice instrumental sections, which is what I like about Yes to begin with.

Gram Parsons owns, as does Sweetheart of the Rodeo.

Are you looking for Alt. Country Rock?

Like Uncle Tupelo, Whiskey Town, The Jayhawks, Son Volt, early Wilco?

Sweetheart of the Rodeo would be a good one to check out, thanks :)

I tried Uncle Tupelo on amazon, but I'm not sure it was as country as I would've liked. How is Wilco? I know my dad and my brother listen to them.

Lunch: I'll get you The Yes Album soon.

robo2448 03-01-2006 09:35 PM

Isn't Poco the band Richie Furay formed after Buffalo Springfield? Probably some good stuff.

And yeah Jon, the Al Dimeola is Elegant Gypsy. Good stuff.

Krabsworth 03-01-2006 09:35 PM

Hey I got Round About Midnight by Miles Davis today. Once I figure out why Itunes won't rip it I'll send it out bitches.
I tried Uncle Tupelo on amazon, but I'm not sure it was as country as I would've liked. How is Wilco? I know my dad and my brother listen to them.
Early Uncle Tupelo is Punk inspired Country-Rock (or Alt. Country Rock). They were like a combination of the Minutemen and Gram Parsons. Their later stuff is much more Country and less Punk Inspired. I like each era of the band, but I suppose I prefer the Punk inspired days.

Wilco's Country Rock material is mostly early on in their career. Theirs is similar to Uncle Tupelo's later work. I like a lot of it, but definitely prefer Tupelo.

PinkFreud 03-01-2006 10:02 PM

I have something you might like, Bus. It's an album by The Knitters which is actually the bassist/singer and female singer for the punk band, X. I didn't even notice i had it until i got some X from JohnXDoe. It's country with a punk feel. I'll probably up it tomorow sometime.

Hey, do any of you guys know the setlist for the rolling stones tour?

Badmoon 03-02-2006 07:44 AM

Goes anyone have Mermiad Avenue vol. 1 or 2?

Volume 1 is arguably the finest I've ever heard Wilco.
