no offense christsimpson but for real i read the last page... you come off a lot like this:

i use itunes. i also have vlc which i use to play videos. i use itunes for music. it's easier for me to use
most people dont think of macs as PCs (regardless of whats correct) and generally refer to them as systems running OSX and windows respectively

just trying to help because your point is kind of moot knowing that reynolds and ben are referring to them in this vernacular sense

saying "theyre the same thing" might not mean much...
well, that is wrong. I find that for a discussion to bear any meaning it needs to be correct. double so when it is a technical discussion.
based off of common terminology and the media....including windows and apple commercials.....pcs are everything other than mac's....thats what im going off of. common terminology.
common terminology by people who do not understand anything about computers and shouldn't be discussing them, perhaps. mainstream media being wrong is not a first either.
This is like "United States of America" and "America." Sure, "America" doesn't technically mean just USA, but that's what most people think of when they hear the term. the USA is not what comes to mind if someone says America to me - nor a bunch of other non-US citizens. that US citizens thinks that America = their country is cute, but inaccurate, nay, false.

you do know that you are arguing that terminology is not important on a hardcore/emo forum, right? let's talk about hardbeat techno and Fall Out Boy...

terminology needs to be correct for the conversation to have any meaning. Macintosh is a PC, and a PC certainly does not have to run Windows. mine doesn't, and yours shouldn't either.

I'm listening to Navio Forge, and don't feel like putting it on pause. what's the gist of whatever you're linking me? if it's meant to be some kind of humorous reflection on the length of my post, then I resent it. a complex question needs a somewhat complex answer. you can't ask about the details of time travel, then expect a one-liner comeback...

iTunes is easier to use compared to what? I find it highly likely you don't know of any alternatives, which more often than not is the non-technical user's curse.

and @all of you - conducting oneself in a coherent and correct manner should not be frowned upon, nor the exception to the rule.

Matt? 12-29-2010 07:49 AM

it's the teacher from peanuts...

and, yes i do know alternatives. i have vlc, i've used winamp before. i didn't say it was easier in general, i just have used itunes for like 6 years and i'm more used to it. idgaf

also how could you NOT think of USA when someone says America? we are the baddest mother f'ucking country you've ever seen. you're precious emo wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for us lol.

i personally know the man who invented the big mac. chew on that !!!!!!

Matt? 12-29-2010 07:56 AM

Winamp sucks almost as bad as iTunes. use Clementine. or even Amarok would suffice.

emo would definitely surface in other countries without USA's help. and that's an uninteresting argument, because emo wouldn't exist if it weren't for [insert almost any country here, and think of almost any stupid argument to insert here].

whiteminority 12-29-2010 08:48 AM

you're nitpicking over minutiae, my friend andrew who is a computer engineering major/electrical engineering minor, who undoubtedly could talk circles around you on technology and computers, uses the common parlance of pc vs. mac, as a matter of fact that's part of the marketing campaign mac uses here in the US so it's part of our common speech to say such things. seeing how this is American primary message board it should be understood that the rhetoric on this site is going to conform with what is understood on a mass scale in this country.

ok yes you could make a stupid arguement sure... you make a lot of those. but not only did american's invent the electric guitar, we also perfected hardcore music (and most other forms of rock music) the only country that comes close to America in terms of music is England but we still kick their asses over and over again. lets not even get started about indie music... (lol). the only shame music wise about America is that radiohead didn't form here...

would you like to talk about our badass navy? or how about this... YOU WOULDNT HAVE THE INTERNET WITH WHICH YOU DISCOVERED PUNK MUSIC if it wasn't for our BADASS CouNTRY

you seriously aren't thinking of the USA when you hear America? what other "american" country even comes remotely close to our badassness?

you wanna know what the norwegians invented? the cheese slicer. very nice very nice :smash: :smash: :smash:

I myself have studied computer engineering and am currently studying computer science, and have grown up with my own pc from the age of 3. that per se doesn't make my point - or his - more or less valid than it is.

even still - what Andrew can or can't has no relevance to this discussion. I can probably talk circles around you, but that is not my intention. I have no interest in talking circles. that is a pointless waste of time. what I am trying to communicate to you - regardless of your education on the matter - is that you can't call Apple nor iTunes "awesome" - or whatever - without being able to state anything positive about Apple or iTunes.

the marketing campaign is false. terminology need be precise when discussing something that is by nature *technical*. terminology actually needs to be precise all the time. if it isn't, then what is the point? imagine going into an anarchism forum and talking about "anarchy is just chaos" - or going into an emo thread, talking about Fall Out Boy. that would be a pointless waste of everyone's time, just like you are pointlessly wasting everyone's time right now, due to your inability to carry this conversation on a satisfactory coherent level. a Macintosh computer is a personal computer. unless you acknowledge that, there is no conversation to be had about Macintosh computers. it's as simple as that.
ok yes you could make a stupid arguement sure... you make a lot of those. but not only did american's invent the electric guitar, we also perfected hardcore music (and most other forms of rock music) the only country that comes close to America in terms of music is England but we still kick their asses over and over again. lets not even get started about indie music... I don't see what the electric guitar or anything you are talking about has to do with anything. you are just rambling on. it's just patriotic nonsense.

when I "think" about America, I am thinking about America. not the USA. that is only logical.

nor do I have any interest in what Norwegians have invented throughout time, as it is completely irrelevant to the discussion. I have no affiliation with the person who created the cheese slicer, nor with the person who invented the electric guitar. nor - I suspect - do you. so it is nothing be proud of by either of us. and it has absolutely *nothing* to do with this conversation's original topic. you are straying so far from any point that it's almost shocking.

furthermore, I have no interest as to whether you use iTunes or not. I am not here to impose an ethical responsibility upon you. what I am stating is that you can't proclaim iTunes's quality when there is none, and you (plural) are unable to conjure any positive aspect of the software.

whiteminority 12-29-2010 10:33 AM

you are as stubborn as a mule Alex, god damn. whatever, it's not that big of a deal. we all know that technically yes a macintosh is a personal computer, but in talking about the differences between Windows and Mac, which are the two main OS's here in the United States, it is quite common for the debate to be over PC v. Mac. Whether or not that is technically correct is irrelevant to everyone involved in the debate besides yourself. but like i said, it's not that big of a deal and I don't want to argue it anymore with you. :)

I enjoy my MacBook because in the 2 and a half years that I have owned it, I have yet to encounter any sort of virus or malware, even though the majority of my usage is through internet browsing, something that in my entirety of owning computers has never happened. I like iTunes because it is User Friendly, has a pleasant graphical interface, and has little to no learning curve in it's usage.

Matt? 12-29-2010 10:44 AM

but i do have an afilliation with the guy who invented the big mac

america 1 norway 0

whiteminority 12-29-2010 10:47 AM

dude if you had an affiliation with someone who invented say the Whopper or the Thick Burger I would be more impressed.

Matt? 12-29-2010 10:47 AM

i don't really care if you like itunes or not. i do. it came with my computer. it plays music

thats really all there is to say about it.

edit: i don't know what the thick burger is. also beggars can't be choosers. i'd be friends with all of them if i could.... but i only know the man who made the big mac

Macintosh and the Mac OS X is not the same thing. furthermore you can run Mac OS X on another kind of PC, as well as Windows on a Macintosh PC.

you'd have to be fairly... well... bad at using computers to get a virus or malware. no matter what operating system you are using.

I'd argue that iTunes is not user friendly in any way. it's sluggish at best, with a really awkward Apple-y UI. it's frankly way too bloated and unresponsive for me to use it - even if it were free software. but it isn't even that. it's a proprietary user-hostile menace, that hates anything non-Apple. just like Mac OS X, the iPhone, and everything else that company has ever produced. they are making a concious effort to lock their users exclusively to their products. not unlike what Microsoft used to do with their abomination known as Internet Explorer. in Europe their means of forcing it upon the user was actually deemed illegal.
i for one am not satisified with the stock capitalist music players. what ones do u rec
I use Clementine. it has a wonderful library system, a nice responsiveness, intuitive and clean UI, built-in last.fm-scrobbling support, nice queuing system, nice playlist functions, great support for Internet radio, etc. it's quite perfect for my needs.

here's a screenshot I took just now.

stick it to the man. eat a thickburger, while listening to itunes at the same time.

christsimpson 12-29-2010 12:11 PM

that's the opposite of sticking it to the man. that's bowing to him.

y. scrobbling doesn't work right now, I think. but hey, they're on version 0.5.6 or something, so it isn't exactly "done" lol. but if all you want is support for adding/removing music then you're good.

i love jimmy johns....i think we have argued about subs in another thread before....anyways...if you JJs without mayonaise and cheese its only 4grams of fat (on a few of their subs) and still delicious.

Anglachel 12-29-2010 01:15 PM

no idea what jimmy johns is
canadian and all

tim hortons sandwiches arent bad but im so sick of those it was pretty much my lunch all last semester

whiteminority 12-29-2010 01:18 PM

jimmy johns is so perfect.

the italian night club is the best sandwich.

cobert 12-29-2010 03:43 PM

I saw some place on travel channel in Chicago that was owned by some British dude that had the same sandwich and everyone thought it was original. I almost got angry then decided that I didn't give a shit.

whiteminority 12-29-2010 04:21 PM
