Yea, Perfect Strangers is a pretty good album, I have it on vinyl. Wasted Sunsets is one of DP's best, at least I think.

I dont know if any of you guys remember me saying that my band is playing Roundabout at our local talent show, but were thinking about playing Lady Fantasy (Camel, if any of you guys want to hear it i can upload the whole Mirage album) do you guys think we should play that or roundabout?

Heart sucks

jpj 02-25-2006 04:31 PM

I picked up Ace of Spades by Motorhead and At the Edge by Mickey Hart today. The Mickey Hart album is all weird percussion except for one song that has Jerry Garcia playing guitar, and another where he play a guitar synthesiser. I've only listened to like one and a half songs, so all I can tell is that it's very ambient and it kinda creates a rain forest type atmosphere.

Roundabout's awesome, that shouldbe sweet.

My God kicks as well. I'm about to listen to Neil Young's self-titled on vinyl.

Hey, you guys know those psychedelic dress shirts that Hendrix, Barrett, Clapton, etc used to wear? Anybody know where to get those? Ebay has turned up nothing.

The 1960's.

Cool, I'll drive down there this weekend.

Jacaran 02-25-2006 05:53 PM

Hey guys I need some help I'm writing some stuff for the paper about Classic Rock, and I just want to know some peoples views other then just mine. :)
I know Classic Rock is not technically a genre or what not but lets just say it is for the purpose of this.
1. What artist that you feel is the best example of classic rock?
2. What album do you think is the best example of classic rock?
3. Would you consider the Keyboards a typical instrument for classic rock?
4. Are the following bands classic rock: Guns N Roses, U2, Iron Maiden, Metallica.

Uh, if you guys could just tell me your opinions that'd be awesome and if you don't tell me your opinions well shiz.

Glitterati 02-25-2006 05:57 PM

1. Pink Floyd
2. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
3. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
4. No, Yes, Yes, No

Speaking of Pink Floyd, I heard David Gilmour's new song while driving today! It sounded nice, kinda reminded me of Wish You Were Here.

Lunch 02-25-2006 05:57 PM

1. Really tough question. I refuse to say the Beatles though, so maybe the Who.
2. For some reason I thought of Are You Experienced as I read the question. I'll just go with the first instinct.
3. Yes
4. No for all of them.

morrison357 02-25-2006 06:14 PM

1. the beatles
2. exile on mainstreet
3. yes
4. no, yes, no, no

Krabsworth 02-25-2006 06:22 PM

I heard RHCP on a local classic rock station a few days ago.

MidnightRider 02-25-2006 06:32 PM

1. The Who
2. DSOTM/Live at Leeds
3. Yes
4. None of them are.

TheDMV 02-25-2006 06:38 PM

The Who
Live At Leeds
Certainly
Yes to maiden, maybe to u2.

MidnightRider 02-25-2006 06:44 PM

Pardon my ignorance, but how can Maiden possibly be categorized as classic rock?

thickasabrick 02-25-2006 06:53 PM

1. Led Zeppelin
2. Highway To Hell
3. Yes, but more defined by electric guitar
4. GnR yes, I suppose...U2 as well, Metallica and Iron Maiden are metal. A good question would be whether Black Sabbath is classic rock.

jpj 02-25-2006 07:00 PM

1. Led Zeppelin
2. I hate to say it, but maybe Led Zeppelin IV. I just think it's a good album for a classic rock noob to check out.
3. sure
4. U2, none of the others

PinkFreud 02-25-2006 07:01 PM

highway to hell? seriously?

1. the beatles
2. led zeppelin 2
3. sometimes
4. no to all.

Seafroggys 02-25-2006 07:11 PM

1. The Beatles
2. Abbey Road (or to be more diversified, Tommy)
3. Yes
4. Depends on how you define classic rock. By my definition (big before 1980) then probably not. U2 came around in the late 70s but weren't popular until the 80s, so I don't count them. I'm not sure when Maiden started, but I'm willing to consider them classic rock. Metallica and GnR, no.

Led-ZeppelinIV 02-25-2006 07:16 PM

I'm now listening to Animals for the first time.

I'd say so. They were very blues oriented.

jpj 02-25-2006 07:19 PM

I have always considered Black Sabbath classic rock.
I'm now listening to Animals for the first time.
Have fun, I know I did.

TheDMV 02-25-2006 07:22 PM
Pardon my ignorance, but how can Maiden possibly be categorized as classic rock?
Just the time period they were in; their sound.
highway to hell? seriously?
From what I've heard, it's much better than a lot of the other stuff. It was pre-Johnson, and he sounds like a muppet.
I'm now listening to Animals for the first time.
Isn't it magical? :D

jpj 02-25-2006 07:28 PM
Just the time period they were in; their sound.
Well, they debuted in 1980 which is borderline classic rock era, but I think their sound is pure metal so I wouldn't call them classic rock.

Jacaran 02-25-2006 07:28 PM

Oh, one more question!
Do you think classic rock is a genre, and why?

I'm having a hard time deciding if I should go with classic rock or just do psychedelic rock. Thanks for all the answers guys.

Not so much a genre, but rather a label given to bands from the mid/late 60's to the late 70s/early 80s. Since there is no one sound or likeness found in all classic rock bands, I don't think it's a genre in the traditional sense.

I hope that makes sense.

TheDMV 02-25-2006 07:33 PM
Well, they debuted in 1980 which is borderline classic rock era, but I think their sound is pure metal so I wouldn't call them classic rock.
Fair enough. I guess so many people think so incredibly of them, I group them with Classic Rock.

Hm, that is my opinion also, but then on the flip side I think it could be considered a genre, because correct me if I'm wrong but genre is another word for category and I have a hard time putting the Who and Nickleback in the same genre (Rock), just like someone would have a hard time putting Iron Maiden and System of a Down into the same metal genres so they split them up. The Who is classic rock, Nickleback is just generally called rock or whatever. And Iron Maiden is called Heavy Metal while System of a Down is called Nu-Metal.

I've been writing all day, so I'm pretty sure my brain to computer screen communication gets funked up. (If that even made sense.)
Thanks jpj! I've decided just to call it more of an era of music instead of stretching the thruth and calling it a genre.

jpj 02-25-2006 07:47 PM

It just depends on how you look at it, but it's not a very important matter in my eyes anyway.

Jacaran 02-25-2006 07:51 PM

Meh, I'm writing to a bunch of people who are bigger music snobs then me. So I want to try and make this as accurate and thought out as possible :).

magicbus 02-25-2006 07:51 PM

So there's this amazing used cd store by me called "The Grand Wazoo", and I just checked it out today. They have a ton of cds, vinyl, and posters, and they're all pretty cheap. I got Let It Be Naked for $10.25, new, Blow By Blow for $9.25 new, and Sailing the Seas of Cheese for $8.25 used. I'm going there more often.

2. Led Zeppelin II

4. No to all of them.

BigTrav415 02-25-2006 07:57 PM

1) Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd I can't choose, they both have large elements of CR)
2) Wish You Were Here (some very long songs, a poppy song, synthesizers, lots of guitar solos, a theme, etc. etc.)
2) Yes, Yes, Yes
3) Yes, No, Yes, Yes

A satisfactory 2,100th post.
How can you say Metallica is CR but not U2?
Because I did.

Actually I don't really know... I guess I'm just mad at U2. Well, I'm mad at Metallica too... Ok, you win.

4) Yes, No, Yes, No
