the bass playing on Ænima and lateralus were better IMO just listen to how fast he hammers in schism and in H.

He doesn't hammer he uses a pick. |

He doesn't hammer he uses a pick. And I think you meant slap/pull. |
Well the bass stands out in almost all of Tool.
Just IMO when I think standout bass on Lateralus, the title title track is second on the list, only to The Grudge. |
My playing style is more like Paul's I guess. I am more of the hammer-type, no pick.
|

The triplet riff in Schism is a hammer on. |
there used to be a website were you could see him do the hammer ons and pull offs
|
I was thinking that he might have gotten slap and hammer mixed up because he didn't say hammer on.
|
The ending part of "Lateralus" the song has that trippy bass slide thing, it's awesome....
Justin > Paul |
does anyone have Tool's cover of Kryuss's Demon Cleaner. It's the only cover I have been unable to find. Thanks. :)
|
im trying to download demon cleaner now, but it aint working

Justin > Paul
Agreed. |
hey, when the levee breaks aint bad (pulled eMOTIVE out of drawer)
Their Levee cover was the only thing I really liked about Emotive. |

Justin > Paul
Well I don't know what Pauls playing is like nowadays but I'm ready to agree with you on that. |
ive searched through the thread and found nothing about this so.....
Is anyone here a member of toolarmy.com (aka the collective unconscious). If so, would you recomend it, what kind of stuff do they offer to members? |

There ya go...Tool doing a live cover of "Demon Cleaner". |
Who plays bass on Undertow? ' cause i like some of the basslines of that album.
|
^ Paul does.
There ya go...Tool doing a live cover of "Demon Cleaner".
Video or Audio? |
^^ Paul D'amour
Oops..a bit late.
Video or Audio?
audio. |
^ Paul does.
it a shame that Paul gets overshadowed by Justin, 'cause his a great bassplayer. |
^ yeah he wasn't bad at all... its just Justin does alot more things rather then playing heavy pounding riffs.
|
Paul was good, but Justin's lines and sound are ten times better, more varied, and have a bigger contribution to the band in my opinion.
|
Paul was good at laying down thick bass, yes, but he was almost like a one-trick pony...he played heavy lines that were not always in line with what Adam was doing, but usually were.
Justin is far more experimental, and often does something totally different from Adam. |
i never seen a live perfomerance of tool, how does justin plays the stuff that paul used to play?
|
paul had a good sound and was extremely heavy... but i'd agree with you on experimentation, justin does a lot more with that
|

Ive seen them about 5 times, and as far as I know Justin has always treated the work Paul did with respect, and plays the basslines basically the same way as the album. Im sure there are a few things different, but none that I saw offhand. |
I still can't get over how buttery smooth Justin's tone is.
Question- On Jimmy, there's a section in the middle where it's either Justin using distortion, or Jone's using an octave pedal. Just listen to it, and you'll know what I'm talking about. Is it Jone's or Chancellor? |

If you mean about 2:41 or so into jimmy...
I am pretty sure the faster running line is Justin, with distortion. Adam is just playing a few D chords. |
Yeah. It's at 2:41 during Jimmy, right before he goes into that clean chorus part. Thanks for the help. It seems like whenever I have questions about Justin, you know what's going on. :thumb:

invisirep++
I consider myself somewhat of a Tool bass guru  |
i don't know if i can agree on all the "bashing" going on over paul d'amour. i personally think that he's as good as justin chancellor. why? his lines on "intolerance" and "sober" are (in my opinion) pretty "experimental" or what not. and his job in "flood" is comaparble to justin in "forty six & 2." but all this crap is just my opinion, and flame me if you want . . .

I agree...But I think justin helped bring the band to a new level. IMO, the foundation of Tool songs are the bass guitar and drums, and Danney said he had to basically develop a new style when Justin came along. I like Paul's playing for sure, but I don't regret that he left when he did. Enima would have never sounded the same without justin, although there are still some paul influences there. |
 :thumb: Aenima is a classic album... I listen to it everyday. And stinkfist is almost perfect for working the abs out at the gym. Heehee |
Ok, I'm gonna get off topic for a bit. I was looking at the cd booklet in the album Opiate and noticed the four pictures at every corner of the paper. I was just wondering if any of you knew who is who (assuming it is the band members, of course). There are interesting things in there...Heh.
|
a lot of tool albums have the weird art stuff
It took me sometime to notice it say's 'God' on the lateralus booklet |
Deleted, sorry for that.
