Isn't meshing together a good thing? Otherwise itd be all over the place.

Jim 02-15-2007 01:41 AM

Meshing as in nothing stands out and grabs my attention :(

rippa32 02-15-2007 01:46 AM

Ah ok. Yer I hate that too, Dragonforce suffering rather a lot from that.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-15-2007 01:59 AM

Meshing together is good sometimes. Not in a DragonForce way, though.

rippa32 02-15-2007 02:02 AM

Yes I agree. The Wall is a good example of meshing, pretty much all the concept albums I can think of are really.

So I read in the paper today that ROGER WATERS IS ACTUALLY COMING HERE. I'm so excited!! He's supposed to play here June 27 I think. Does anyone know if he's still playing Darkside?

MattSharpIsCool 02-15-2007 03:47 PM

Roger is coming back to North America? Maybe I'll get another chance to see him, woot.

Hamilcar 02-15-2007 04:19 PM

2 Things

1. For the Roger Waters tour, if anyone needs information on what he's playing or where and when, check out www.brain-damage.co.uk They have everything you'll need.

2. I mentioned something about a second Live8 being held this summer. Well it's been officially announced and has a website running through msn. Here it is...

http://liveearth.msn.com/?GT1=9033

I have no idea what bands are lined up and it doesn't seem to give any info. But if anyone was interested in this than that seems to be the place to keep up on it.

EDIT: Ah, there seems to be a more official-esque website.

http://liveearth.org/

Simple enough

Leper 02-15-2007 04:26 PM

Thanks dude, much appreciated.

Montana 02-15-2007 04:48 PM

Wow, excellent news there.

That brain-damage site isn't working for me :/

Kaiwaz 02-15-2007 07:47 PM

The Departed was a great movie up until the country cover of Comfotably Numb came on, it toally ruined the vibe of the movie for me. How can anyone wreck that song or anything Pink Floyd does...that's just blasphemy. I really thought it sucked badly, the cover.

-1up!- 02-15-2007 08:41 PM

Is it only me or Comfortably Numb on the Pulse show makes any worries vanish away in a sweet swoosh of miracle sound?

MattSharpIsCool 02-15-2007 08:42 PM

That's the version from Roger Water's "The Wall live in Berlin"

It's Van Morrsion and The Band singing.

Funny you mention that, because I just finished watching The Departed about two minutes ago.
Is it only me or Comfortably Numb on the Pulse show makes any worries vanish away in a sweet swoosh of miracle sound?
I get that feeling, but with the Studio version.

ghettoeddo 02-15-2007 11:25 PM

i know comfortably numb is "overrated" and whatnot, but i still contest that the solo at the end is the definition of secks.

plus singing the song really loudly with your drunk/stoned friends is so much fun

MattSharpIsCool 02-15-2007 11:40 PM

I would say Comfortably Numb is probably one of, if not the best stand-alone Pink Floyd tracks.

ghettoeddo 02-15-2007 11:42 PM

so my friend was saying it was about heroin.
and i just realized it like a week ago

MattSharpIsCool 02-15-2007 11:48 PM

I dont know if it's about heroin or not. I'm pretty sure Pink overdoses on something that could be heroin, but I think the song itself is about the doctors reviving him.

The part about the needle or the "pin prick" is when the doctors stick him with whatever medicine they're using. That's what it shows in the movie at least. I could see how someone could think it's about heroin though.

"My hands felt just like two balloons" is about drug use of some sort, I think. On the movie's commentary, Roger mentions some drug that makes your hands swell up, and it might have been heroin.

ghettoeddo 02-15-2007 11:50 PM

oh drugs.

whether it's the inebriating kind or the reviving kind, thank you for a wonderful song :thumb:

Riva 02-15-2007 11:51 PM

But it's also about how as a child he was on his death bed (In the movie it's during the scenes for Mother) and he feels in the same situation now.

"When I was a child, I had a fever, my hands felt like two balloons, now I've got that feeling once again, I can't explain, you will not understand, this is not how I am.

ghettoeddo 02-15-2007 11:51 PM

oh.

You won't wanna hear the Scissor Sisters version =/

rippa32 02-16-2007 12:36 AM

I can't remember Roger saying anything about the swollen hands. I remember because I was waiting for an explanation on it when I watched it with commentary.

MattSharpIsCool 02-16-2007 12:41 AM

Maybe it wasn't on that, but I do remember someone saying something about a certain drug making your hands swell.

Jim 02-16-2007 01:10 AM

For what it's worth, here's an interview I found of Roger.

TV: So physiologically what stage of the character Pink for the track "Comfortably Numb"?

RW: After "Bring the Boys Back Home" there is a short piece where a tape loop is used; the teachers voice is heard again and you can feel the groupie saying "are you feeling ok" and there's the operator saying, er, "there's a man answering" and there's a new voice introduced at that point and there's somebody knocking on the door saying "come on it's time to go," right, so the idea is that they are coming to take him to the show because he's got to go and perform that night, and they come into the room and they realize something is wrong, and they actually physically bring the doctor in, and "Comfortably Numb" is about his confrontation with the doctor.

TV: So the doctor puts him in such a physiological state that he can actually hit the stage?

RW: Yes, he gives him an injection, in fact it's very specific that song.

TV: "Just a little pinprick"?

RW: Yeah.

TV: "There'll be no more aaaaaaaaaaah!"

RW: Right.

[COMFORTABLY NUMB]

RW:Because they're not interested in any of these problems, all they're interested in is how many people there are and tickets have been sold and the show must go on, at any cost, to anybody. I mean I, personally, have done gigs when I've been very depressed, but I've also done gigs when I've been *extremely* ill, where you wouldn't do any ordinary kind of work.

It's a pity he never says what specifically is wrong with Pink, but the feeling is it's probably drug or depression related.

rippa32 02-16-2007 01:42 AM

Hey cool, thanks for that. Could you link the entire interview?

Jim 02-16-2007 02:11 AM

Ooh yeah.

http://www.pinkfloyd-co.com/band/interviews/rw/rw_frame.html

It's the 1979 interview.

Sorry about the late link, I was just writing a review :P

Riva 02-16-2007 06:23 AM

Yah, Pink is sick, but the manager is more concerned with getting him on stage. You can see this better in the movie, but it is fairly apparent on the album.

rippa32 02-16-2007 07:06 AM

Lol wasn't for me. First time I heard the album I was looking for meanings that werent there. I guess that's the beauty of Waters, hes used metaphors alot but never goes too far into abstract references like some pretentious artists. Oh and hes got a sense of humour lol.

You can see this better in the movie. But also if you watch any live version then you can see it as well (with Roger the doctor, stick a giant needle into the wall)
