Yeah, their EP is really good.

Love Bomb the Sun

How's Solitude Aeturnus's Alone?

pate 08-28-2007 06:15 PM

It's excellent. It's easily a 4.5/5, leaving it behind their first three, but well above Downfall and Adagio.

I agree on all but one point - Downfall ius a great record! I love it. And I like Adagio too.

pate 08-29-2007 08:06 AM

I really like Downfall, but it's nowhere close to Alone. Adagio is hit and miss for me.

.I have known John Perez of Solitude Aeturnus for years, and was one of the few that auditioned for the vocalist position for Last Chapter,
so I know a little about the genre LOL. The Candlemass is excellent, anybody heard the new Paradise Lost, saw them way back when, absolutely excellent band ,total energy personified!

Shattered_Future 08-29-2007 12:36 PM

I love the new Paradise Lost too, though they're not really doom...I don't think so, anyways. Hopefully I see them in October when they open for Nightwish.

sabbath in solitude 08-29-2007 01:18 PM

The old stuff I would call death/gothic doom.I was interested to see if they were playing heavy again,an article in a mag seemed to be saying so, so I was curious. You like Nightwish,do you like any of the other heavy gothic kind of bands like Sirenia or Trail Of Tears,I like several bands in this genre, tend to like the bands better with some male growls in there,"beauty and the beast" I call it in my reviews.

publicastration 08-29-2007 01:33 PM

I really like that Bomb The Sun.

sabbath in solitude 08-29-2007 01:51 PM

Not familiar with them ,what kind of vocals?Unbelievable how many pages there are in this one,its going to have be a committed project to read this thread. That is so cool though, you guys have the longest continual doom thread I've seen anywhere and I am a member of about five diff forums right now.On the "stoner" side ,I think that Orange Goblin is probably the best of the lot,I'm kind of selective in that area. The first release by John Perez's Brainticket label was the self titled by Sorcerer, anybody pick that one up along the way.If you haven't its epic doom like Candlemass and SA with a vox that sounds kind of like a cross between the first vox for Candlemass,Johan Langquist and Tony Martin of Sabbath. Its extremely hard to find now, but well worth it you can.Another good one is Solstice, their singer is heavily influenced by Robert of SA/Candlemass.

John is seriously the coolest guy ever. He apologized to me for on-stage ****ups, and discussed Testament and Bathory with me. And one of the times I talked to him was in a Denney's. \m/

Wow, I really need to check out Sorcerer.

publicastration 08-29-2007 02:01 PM

Is it just me or do metal bands frequent Denny's? I met Daath there after a show about a month ago.

Kage 08-29-2007 02:02 PM

Is it just me or did you feign that question just so you could slip in the fact that you met Daath?

publicastration 08-29-2007 02:04 PM

It seems odd is all.
Is it just me or do metal bands frequent Denny's? I met Daath there after a show about a month ago.
It is true, because usually thats the only place open after the later shows.Yeah ,John is cool,of course not every word here is about Solitude(ominous laugh, thinking to himself..yet !) but he would be totally blown away by all the doom talk.It sometimes still amazes me that I know the guy ,because he is definitely one of the top five people that has kept epic doom alive.Another cool guy is Victor Griffin of Death Row/Pentagram and now Place Of Skulls,a king among the classic more raw Sabbath inspired doom.

hollerphonix 08-29-2007 04:28 PM

sleep, eyehategod (sludgy kinda) and electric wizard nothing tops those

And there's always a Denney's within a block of a venue.

Can anyone send me Forest Of Shadows - Where Dreams Turn To Dust, or does anyone know where I can find it?

Oriah 08-29-2007 10:39 PM

anyone else Love Devin Townsend?

Kage 08-29-2007 11:46 PM

Well he's not stoner/doom!

Are you in a band now? If you've got the vocal talents to audition for Last Chapter then you should be.
anybody heard the new Paradise Lost, saw them way back when, absolutely excellent band ,total energy personified!
I've seen PL loads of times but was never that impressed. Nick Holmes' rockstar stylings put me off a bit. Sunglasses onstage at Donington in the pouring rain for a start.

Ah yeah, well, I'm kind of a wizened warrior now.Too many years of vocal inactivity and maybe partly due to this crummy Texas air and a throat problem, just can't sing like I used to.Best I can manage now is a little Morrison or Ozzy.I'll be honest,I was capable so they gave me a chance, and after I heard them play I told them no matter how things went I would be a lifelong fan.It is kind of a long story but the short version is that they were willing to try to work with me but the Dallas /Fort Worth traffic was horrendous even back then, so timewise it just wasn't possible.I was separated from my first wife so I didn't have a car, so, I was bumming a ride from Darrin Davis.Though it didn't work out it was the greatest personal doom exp. of my life.It was beyond awesome to have the band behind me in practice and literally feel the walls shake.I got to witness the beginning of a passage that later became "Thorn Of Creation" and sang the original lyrics of "Things to Come",I don't think Robert even did that.I settled for being their unofficial local scribe since I write for Harder Beat magazine and if you ever read cd credits I am the one that was"blessed" by the band on Paths To Always.I normally use the pen and screen name Sabbath Steve but wanted to try something different so I used this one.

Bad luck man. But at least you've got yourself some great memories and a good story to tell!

You a Las Cruces fan?

sabbath in solitude 09-01-2007 12:07 PM

Hah, yeah, doom war stories I call them LOL !.Mark and the boys are a sad story, man ,what could have been!I was very fortunate to have been given a copy of a three song cd by Mark at the Stoner Hands Of Doom festival we had in Dallas back in 01.It was some great stuff in a Trouble/newer Cathedral kind of vein.Absolute shame they didn't come out with another cd.Don't know if you are aware of it or not, but they have a track called Sadness on a comp called I am Vengeance which was a soundtrack of sorts for an underground psychedelic/horror flick of the same name and they cover The Prisoner on a Maiden tribute titled Slave To The Power.

I'm at a loss as to which Queens of the Stone Age album to get first. Can someone help me out?

LifeInABox 09-01-2007 01:16 PM

Well, Agalloch isn't at all Doom or stoner metal, but can someone give me what I might like along the lines of Agalloch/Neurosis/Gordian Knot/Pelican?
