checkout impetuous ritual that itwasthatwas recced, they're fantastic.

other similiar AU bands you might like are aethyrvorous (who broke up after putting out one tape) and maybe ignivomous (though they're a little more straightforward death metal)

other recs:

mitochondrion - archaeon
excommunion - superion
incantation - onward to golgotha
demilich - nespithe
abramelin - abramelin (not quite similar to portal, but early australian dm that rules)
infester - to the depths in degredation
mythos - moulded in clay
timeghoul - both demos

Aethyrvorous tape rules. Very disappointing that they split up.

Impetuous Ritual are great as well. Seeing them with Grave Upheaval next month. I think the direction these guys are currently taking is more interesting than where Portal went with [i]Swarth[/i].

If you like IR, Witchrist might be worth looking into as well.
