Haha just think of dragonforce playing for fans of that crap, that would be a real laugh.

As cheesy as dragonforce can be those guys can rip hard.
Yeah they can

Im actually surprised how big they have gotten recently.

Double Bass Jim 06-25-2006 11:43 PM

Learning extremely basic theory is the best thing you can do. For example lets take any iron maiden song, if you know basic theory you know the song is going to be in A and the notes used will be either from the pentatonic or minor scale which they use 90% of the time. If you look at a tab you'll say "Ahh these are the notes that are used" And you'll see it and understand it more then just coping it. You won't even have to look at a tab because you'll know every sound in music is formed through note choice and the notes you lay on. Not only will you understand it but you'll have the knoweldge of how to use these sounds on your own.

Ive got that dvd
I think it would be cooler if he was actually playing everything instead of just him playing overtop of drum loops.
And I really like Levin better then this bassist, although it is mostly the same stuff played on the chapman stick.

For some reason that video was incredibly boring to me...
Sorry pal. When she signs with a record company, she has NO SAY in who the musicians are. The producer and management does. They will prob higher session players they already have on a list of their own contacts.

THat said, try and see how it goes, and see my above comment about a contract and lawyer.

All that said, if it's less then 1,500/week.. don't drop out of school.
Yeah, you pretty much just summed up all the things I'm worrying about.

I'm doing music at college, so I think I'm gonna stick with college.

LiquidTensionTheatre 06-26-2006 07:33 AM

By the way Josiah which course did you take at PIT and how did it work out for you?

I'm considering studying there when I finish my Music Practise BTEC

I had an hour drum lesson today, instead of the usual 20 mins. I'm happy. At first i learnt some swing jazz, then some country western, and then some disco. It was right down quality street.

And i shaved my beard last night, and it's already grown back. And my teacher lared at me about it today, god damn sexists

fishbulb 06-26-2006 10:52 AM

Is your teacher a she?

Drum Phil 06-26-2006 10:58 AM

fishbulb 06-26-2006 10:59 AM

Not anymore. I rep'd you.

Drum Phil 06-26-2006 11:02 AM

LiquidTensionTheatre 06-26-2006 11:23 AM

Drum Phil 06-26-2006 11:24 AM

Its back.

LiquidTensionTheatre 06-26-2006 11:27 AM

Ah, I see.

Just came upon quite a cool sounding thing on the kit, playing a 4/4 8th note beat but play the 8th notes alternating between the hi-hats, ride and tambourine, creates a really cool sounding polyrhythmic effect I think. Don't know how I hadn't stumbled upon that before.

Sunshine 06-26-2006 02:12 PM

DAMNIT.

Damnitdamnitdamnitdamnitdamnitdamnitdamnit.

Damnit all to hell.

I'm craving a toasted cheese sandwich like a pregnant chick and have no bread to make one.

Chuck Norris is a white western type. Country Western that is...

Faith+1 - How old are you? 'You Got Served' is really old....

Or am I thinking of 'Are You Bein Served?' ?

It's fun to ride all over your kit. Just go around cymbals from right to left, then go from snare to rack toms then floor toms and repeat. It's cool if you have an odd number of things to hit so it takes a while for the first beat to fall on the hi-hats again.

ARGH! I want to see them again.

I have seen them twice so far (Aenima and lateralus tours) Man they are great live.

fishbulb 06-26-2006 03:30 PM

Not a big tool fan to be honest with you. Well, i actually haven't heard any tool. Google video here i come.

Futuro 06-26-2006 03:34 PM
Not a big tool fan to be honest with you. Well, i actually haven't heard any tool. Google video here i come.
Erm, Good introductory songs IMO would be Stinkfist, or prison sex. Unless you already like progressive rock, than just listen to the song/cd Lateralus.

There music takes a while to unfold, if you are expecting a 3 minute tune with a verse chorus verse chorus structure you wont like it. The entire 10,000 days album is very linear, so I wouldnt start with that album.
