Well that could've gone without saying. Prog isn't a very popular genre amongst most teenagers, but they all know who Kurt Cobain is.

robo2448 09-04-2005 10:33 AM

I'm glad they at least put Robert Johnson at number 5.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-04-2005 10:40 AM

Eric and Jimi are in the same places in the 100 greatest guitarist comp.

John McLaughlin at 49?!?

WTF!?
I think I have that poster too, as long as it's the Hendrix one. The list sucks, but Hendrix rules, so I figured I could still use the poster.
Jimi hendrix is the man! I also like the beatles, deep purple.

Glitterati 09-04-2005 10:54 AM

Maggie May is a pretty good song.

robo2448 09-04-2005 10:56 AM

Anyone like Roy Orbison? I find that he's pretty underrated in terms of classic rock artists. Amazing voice.

np- Orbison- It's Over

Roy Orbison is the man. My folks saw him in concert not long before he died.

Pretty Woman is a cool song.

It would be cool seeing him in concert. The Beatles toured with him before they got big. Harrison became friends with him then, and that friendship led to them forming the Traveling Wilburies.

I'm listening to Orbison's greatest hits now and it occurred to me that we almost never talk about him in here.

Edit- Wow, bringing up Roy Orbison really kills the thread quickly.

Apparently.

I'm really liking The Allman Brothers Band lately.

MBS 09-04-2005 12:35 PM

The Allman Brothers rule.

robo2448 09-04-2005 12:36 PM

Blue Sky pwns. I've been waiting for someone to bump the thread.

Distant Echoes 09-04-2005 12:59 PM

I was into the allman brothers when i first heard them, but like all southern rock bands, I eventually stopped caring - usually because i never got an album in time to refurbish my love for any of them. Easily one of my fav live bands though.

i could use another album or two from the allmans...

Lunch 09-04-2005 01:31 PM

Good ol' Allman Brothers, always saving this thread.

I love Roy Orbison. He could rock out just as hard as anyone else, or sing ballads more beautifully than Frank Sinatra. His voice was just amazing.

I wonder if that one guy is gonna come back today....the one who apparently is too intelligent to listen to any type of music that has had remotely any commecial success.

PinkFreud 09-04-2005 03:05 PM

im pretty sure he was banned. i hope so.

Lunch 09-04-2005 03:07 PM

That's what he gets for having musical tastes soo much more advanced than everyone else. In fact, he was so cool that he doesn't even listen to anything anymore, because it wasn't up to the standard of silence.

PinkFreud 09-04-2005 03:09 PM

silence is so perfect. nothing can come close to silence.

Also, thickasabrick, not to sound like a prude or anything (I don't care how you listen to your music) but the way you're acting pro drugs, there might be minors on the forum. Just a thought.... Oh and Thick as a Brick is a killer song.
Sorry if I offended you, but I've never really gotten a reaction like that. Most of the people in this thread know eachother well enough that I don't think I'm really being a bad influence on anyone, the people who use drugs are gonna keep on using them, and the people who don't use drugs usually either don't reply to drug discussion...or just remind us that they don't do drugs. We're all friends here. And yes....Thick as a Brick is an amazing song. I wish I had the CD so I could listen to it in my car, I've got doubles of it on vinyl.

I realize I'm a few pages late on this reply....I was searching back through the pages to quote myself (I found it a humourous coincedence that just yesterday I said anyone who isn't a real fan of the Stones says anything after Tattoo You isn't good....and today someone made a thread saying that)

And yeah, that guy was banned...for good reason too. I was trying to be nice, but that guy was a major annoyance.

We don't ever talk about American Beauty anymore. What's everyones' opinion on this amazing album? Besides being one of the only things I enjoy about the Dead I'd have to say it's one of the greatest albums of all time and if you own a copy pick it up now and listin to it and appreciate it because some people aren't fourtunate enough to have a copy of their own. I miss it sooooooo much. :upset:

PinkFreud 09-04-2005 03:21 PM

i love it.

currently, im addicted to attics of my life. that songs is excellent.

thickasabrick 09-04-2005 03:23 PM

I love American Beauty. I think it stands alongside Pet Sounds as a monument for popular American music in the late 60's early 70's period.

American Beauty's great. I think I like it more than WD. Both of those are amazing though. Brokedown Palace is my favorite song from it. I haven't listened to it in a long time though. Right now I'm digging The Animals. I should get some of Eric Burdon's stuff with War.
