It's warm enough, T-shirt weatehr at least.

Kuffuffled 05-18-2010 02:54 AM

Anything over like 28 is overkill

AG 05-18-2010 03:10 AM

Imma wear a teeshirt today, perhaps a hoodie if it's warm.

I'm in Starbucks on Northumberland Road, if any Newcastle MXers wanna come say hello - I'll buy you a coffee.

Today is a good day - first full day off out of Uni - no deadlines hanging over me, no stress. It's lovely.

The_Mop 05-18-2010 05:44 AM

Heh, wish I could say the same - revising hard for an exam tomorrow. Also got an exam the day after that I literally have not got a clue about (and I really do mean literally, not just hyperbole). Oh and then after then, I've got a post-exam deadline for a microprocessor assignment.

And another exam.

Also, after owning my new phone for a few weeks now, I think I'm well within my rights to say SYMBIAN SUCKS BALLS.

Also nokia havn't designed a good looking phone in about a decade.

AG 05-18-2010 05:54 AM

What phone?

I think the software on my old Sony Ericsson P1i was Symbian and it was OK, a bit clunky but whatevs.

The_Mop 05-18-2010 06:00 AM

Ended up getting an E71. They were going cheap on 3. Good thing is they've only just changed their contracts now and you basically can't get 18month contracts on anything decent.

But yeah - E71 - it does the job, has a lot of features and was the only thing with GPS and WIFI that I could get cheaply but symbiam just has the stupidest menu system, takes ages to load texts, e.t.c It's great for texting with the keyboard and such but otherwise it's pretty terrible.

Shoulda gone with a longer contract and got a hero \m/

GuitarBizarre 05-18-2010 06:32 AM

Just spent some time with my GT-10 getting a damned near perfect tone for Paperback Writer by The Beatles.

My guitar doesn't QUITE have the right jangle for it, but I'm as close as I think its possible to get. If you gave me a guitar with a brighter bridge pickup it'd be 100%, as it is I'm about 95% true to the recording.

Bruce E Kinesis 05-18-2010 07:01 AM

"In fact just give me a rickenbacker and a selmer treble and bass and i'll have it 100%"
"In fact just give me a rickenbacker and a selmer treble and bass and i'll have it 100%"
Nah, just a guitar with a brighter bridge pickup. My 7 strings bridge pickup has been awful since I got it, its just not bright enough, its kinda muddy. I should really look at replacing it, but eh, judicious EQ use is alright until I scrape together the spare cash.

Bruce E Kinesis 05-18-2010 08:45 AM

The thing I don't get about 7 stringers is

Wouldn't a baritone be more comfortable?

Squirrel 05-18-2010 09:00 AM

Have you played a 7 string?

I find them more comfortable, but I have quite big hands/long fingers.

Bruce E Kinesis 05-18-2010 09:58 AM

I've never had the chance, no

Plus it's harder to find a 7 string that is not in the pointy style, whereas you can get baritone jags, LPs etc.

I think I wouldn't like it because I use my thumb for fretting a lot though?

Sad But True 05-18-2010 09:58 AM

Or a baritone 7 string. Best of both worlds.

AG 05-18-2010 10:28 AM

Or you could just play bass, like the pros.

Bruce E Kinesis 05-18-2010 10:34 AM

too much sbt, too much

But, but....I have one. It's nice.

:(

El-Ahrairah 05-18-2010 11:35 AM

This week sucks.

Sunday - Dio dies.
Monday - I play a sweet solo in Dio's memory and get stung in the neck by a wasp.
Tuesday - My application for an internship at a robotics firm in Brisbane is rejected.

What else will it bring? Even Monday's XKCD sucks!!

Blue_Moon 05-18-2010 11:49 AM

20c is amazing for ireland, we dont know what to do when it gets that hot

going to asian on friday, its a warzone over there uh oh

Squirrel 05-18-2010 11:50 AM

For me:

Monday: thought was gonna be terrible but it turned out really well, got loads of work done out of nowhere in the evening, which is a bonus.

Today: went the see the specialists yet again - 6 times in as many weeks - and have finally been given a clean bill of health.

Rest of the week: last 3 days on placement so i'm counting down the hours :)
But, but....I have one. It's nice.
I didn't even know folks were making 7 string bari's... Who made yours, and what do you have yours tuned to? A friend of mine said he wanted one, and I thought he was joking.

So far my week's been goin good. Had a band come in to track drums, and we were hoping to maybe record "keepers" for an intro song they've got. Ended up knocking out 5 songs, 3 of them in a single take. Moods are high, and vibes are good. Wish it always went like this :thumb:

My 7 is an S series. so its not pointy :)

JoshIsNumber3 05-18-2010 02:27 PM
My 7 is an S series. so its not pointy :)
Ibanez? Not so bad, but I don't like the necks, they're so thin! And I swore to myself long ago that for as long as I lived I would never buy another guitar with a locking trem.

mnemonic 05-19-2010 02:08 AM

when i first got my seven, i thought it was hard to play because the neck felt so huge (plus its a schecter and they're necks are kinda thick anyway), but after getting used to it, 6 strings felt tiny.

kinda used to both now, i prefer the 7 because i've got the extra string if i need it, and if i dont want to use it i just dont.

AG 05-19-2010 03:54 AM

6 string guitar necks feel tiny after I've been playing Bass, but it only takes 5 minutes or so to get back into it.

I think that playing both gives a huge advantage, bass = better rhythm, guitar = better improv/creativity

Blue_Moon 05-19-2010 07:28 AM

i have a 5 string bass and the neck is ginormous... but its a bita fun

2 days till im due to fly to bangkok

ALONE

but then i shall meet up with people

AG 05-19-2010 07:53 AM

/6 string bass

/big e-peen

Anyways, please listen to these awesome Reason patches: (the song isn't really up to much, it's just the patches that are worth it)

Just had the worst exam I've ever had a few hours ago. Fuckng terrible.

Unfair, infact. They completely changed the format of the exam (without warning) and there were even mistakes in it. Entirely uneccesarily made it ridiculously hard for everyone.

Considering we've had 7 assignments over the last 2 weeks of lectures and no dedicated revision time before heading straight into exams, this is a fucking pisstake.

GuitarBizarre 05-19-2010 03:17 PM

So, in the past 2 days.

I have done 50 miles of bike riding, not skimping on the hills or rough paths, I have also discovered I don't actually dislike eggs, even though I've thought I did since I was a little kid. I also got Smash Bros Melee running on a PC emulator, in full 1080p HD.

It looks sweet.

Isn't it funny when that **** happens? I thought I hated eggs, onions, and just about every veggie that would come on a supreme pizza, and now I like them all... :chug:

The Wii only outputs 720p.

Upscaling if for fags.

Bruce E Kinesis 05-19-2010 04:50 PM

honestly when's the last time you sat watching a DVD and thought "AGHGHGH MY EYES"

honestly I remember when we thought VHS were the **** (YOU CAN RECORD TV YOURSELF!)

I'm running it on my PC through an emulator, and forcing the *internal* resolution up. Which means its being internally rendered at 1080p native, and looks freakin awesome.

Also, FFXII? On a PS2 that **** looks weak, but the internal textures, are, for some reason, surprisingly detailed. Running it with the internal res pumped up to 1920x1080, I could easily mistake it for a first Gen 360 title (and a good one at that.), but for a few tiny hints here and there.

The point isn't that what came before is bad, its that what comes now is better. Why do people not get that about technology?

aargh i spent ****ing ages trying to get my comp to run ffxii zodiac job system but it's a dell and won't let me overclock from 2.4ghz.

which is a shame cause the q6600 is a pretty good cpu.

had no idea dell locked the bios like that. more fool me,

Blue_Moon 05-19-2010 05:23 PM

The real question is

are you buying it because you need it

or because it's new and you want to keep up with the jonses

I honestly think if you only replace AV equipment when the old one fails you don't go too far wrong

Dell lock their BIOS? Lame. The Q6600 is well known for being highly overclockable. Despite being 2.4 GHz officially, I've seen proof of it running 3.06 GHz, and stable.
