Six Foot Revolver 04-30-2005 03:14 PM

I only watched one of them and that was the one with the skin thing and I disliked it

IAJP 04-30-2005 03:18 PM

Bartender...
Did I make an illegal thread?
I'm not sure if this was against the rules, I don't think it is, but it's always better to be safe than sorry eh?

Brew 04-30-2005 03:19 PM
I watched that for the first three episodes, but since then I've been away from home, where I don't have access to BBC3. What was it about this time?
It had previous doctors talking about their experiences with the Dalecks, along with how they were controlled and nearly axed from the current series.

Arucard 04-30-2005 03:21 PM
Unfortunately not :(

That scene's burned into my memory, though.

Yeah, I loved it. You didn't like the other new episodes so far?
Nah, just that one. I liked the exploration of the whole Darlek mind set though.

Not as far as I can tell. Even if it were technically against the rules, we probably wouldn't do anything about it anyway, since it's not a bad thread.

Aww. That sounds interesting.

Brew 04-30-2005 03:28 PM

It'll probably be repeated sometime soon, its worth watching.

Bartender 04-30-2005 03:31 PM

Well unless it's repeated somewhere on regular terrestrial TV, I won't be able to see it.

Are there any fans of the Clash here?

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-30-2005 03:39 PM

They're pretty good. When I first listened to London Calling, I was a bit disappointed though. I guess I was expecting it to be faster, more Dead Kennedys-ish.

The Clash have their moments...I like a few of their songs, but that's about it.

I prefer the last album Joe Strummer did ("Streetcore") to anything The Clash did, oddly enough.

Hey, guys. I just wanted to pop in and say hello.

I started work today... I'm working as an expo at a restaurant (basically, the cooks give me the food, and I have to add any extras to it [sauces/dips, make sure the food looks presentable, etc.], then call for the runners to run [derrhrrhrr] the food out to the customers, janitorial things, etc.). It was a loooong day, and all the cooks speak Spanish, but luckily I'm pretty decent in my Spanish (iBuen trabajo, Juan!), and they're basically pretty friendly, but they like it more if you speak Spanish, even if you butcher it, because they know you're trying.

Then there are some other tasks and such, such as checking temperatures of foods and whatnot, but no one cares about that :)

It was just a long day, and everyone's under a lot of pressure since we don't open until May 9th, and we want to get all the food right, and so on and so forth.

I don't mean to interrupt your discussion of politics and music, so I'm going to head back. I just wanted to say hello and catch up the YSI thread with an update.

Adios.

Kurtz 04-30-2005 03:51 PM

What restaurant do you work at?

EDIT: oh, bye

Arucard 04-30-2005 03:53 PM

Good job AH, i hope it all works out for you.

May 9th? I get out of uni then. Maybe I could head up there for the grand opening

So what kind of food is it? Mexican?

Arucard 04-30-2005 03:57 PM

I heard Mr.Brightside by The Killers for the first time today. It is so depressing!

Jom 04-30-2005 03:58 PM

/comes back because dinner isn't ready yet

Thanks for the kind words, all. I hope life is treating you well.

The restaurant: Red Robin... it's a national chain... gourmet burgers and spirits. I know they have them on the West Coast, but I'm not sure if they are any in IL/MA or overseas... I doubt the latter, but possibly the former? I dunno.

It's basically American food, but all the cooks are Hispanic. They talk so fast, man.

EDIT: ah, dinnertime. bez.

lunch998 04-30-2005 03:59 PM

There's a Red Robin around where a live, the food is delicious.

Illmatic 04-30-2005 04:02 PM

I've never heard of Red Robin.

"Gourmet burgers and spirits"? Sounds kind of faux-rich to me. Oh well.

And it sounds like the restaraunt wants some cheap labor...well, they're already on the road to being every other major American company :p

Good luck with the job, though.

Arucard 04-30-2005 04:04 PM

Back to my other post, does anyone else have any thoughts on The Killers?

Illmatic 04-30-2005 04:06 PM

I hate The Killers.

Arucard 04-30-2005 04:09 PM

Rocking. Well, that was an interesting an invigorating conversation.

I really want to find 'Argholesent - Inoccorible Biggotory' but i cant find it ANYWHERE.

Bartender 04-30-2005 04:12 PM

http://www.supernalmusic.com sells it, for £9.99. Free shipping within the UK, too.

I'm not too keen on the Killers either though, except for the first line of that song they released as a single. The one with the stupid chorus, you know what I mean. Actually, joe, could you upload that song for me?

superpeer 04-30-2005 04:12 PM
I hate The Killers.
I agree, they don't deserve a cool name like that.

Arucard 04-30-2005 04:13 PM

Do you mean 'You've got a boyfriend, that looks like a girlfrined?'

Bartender 04-30-2005 04:14 PM

Yeah, that's the one.

superpeer 04-30-2005 04:15 PM

Wow, I really hate that line.

Kurtz 04-30-2005 04:21 PM

I can't stand them.

Everyone here loves them too.

Arucard 04-30-2005 04:21 PM

Well, you live in SoCal, which is mostly a cultureless wasteland.

superpeer 04-30-2005 04:22 PM

I have a question for the Americans, and possibly for the Brits:

How often do you/people around you say 'I love you', because when I watch films or series (fiction) or documentaries (these people must be real), I really notice the excessive use of it.

Not very often.

I've only said it like, two or three times to my gf...it just sounds and feels weird.

I say it to my parents a lot, I guess it's more of a default thing for me.

Permanent Solution 04-30-2005 04:30 PM

Love is tossed around a lot in my experience. Almost every girl I know says it.

^^My parents say it to me a lot, but I never say it back. I don't believe it should be said out of habit, but what you believe.

ILoveMusic0106 04-30-2005 04:32 PM

Who here loves the simpsons as much as i do?

Bartender 04-30-2005 04:32 PM

I don't know. How much do you like them?
Wow, I really hate that line.
Yeah, me too. I really like the first line of the song though, or more specifically the way he sings it.

How do you mean? Do you mean honest, lover-to-lover I love you's, or just general use of the phrase in any kind of situation.

superpeer 04-30-2005 04:33 PM

Ah, so it's partially true. Saying 'I love you, mom' would sound extremely weird to me. Or saying it to a friend or something, I don't think anyone does that here.
Maybe we're hateful. I think our 'I love you' line sounds artificial and that's why no one says it.

lunch998 04-30-2005 04:33 PM

I also noticed girls tend to use it a bit/way too much. It doesn't really have much meaning sometimes when girls say it to all their friends all the time. On the other hand, I think guys try to avoid saying it as much as possible.

I don't think we're hateful, I think it's just that the phrase itself has become oversaturated and lost its meaning.
