What makes you not believe me?
|
In Hook In Mouth, Dave says "As long as theres a P.M.R.C." What's a P.M.R.C.?
It's something about mother's against swearing and violence in movies. Some politic heard her son listening to WASP and was appauled so she formed PMRC. They're kinda the reason for parental advisory stickers and censorship in music. |
What makes you not believe me?
You seem very mature from the way you post (Well what I have seen, basically R&M threads), and your guitar skills are pretty **** good in my opinion. It's not that I don't believe you, I just find it weird. |
Heh, that's what a lot of people in the FF thread said too. A lot of my bro's friends (he's 26) think I'm in college too when they first see/talk to me.
Though there are a few people on here the same age as me that are way better than me at guitar. Anyway, I'm off to take a nap. |
Well, I'm 16, and i've been playing about 2 and a half years on bass. I really suck at guitar though.
:smash: |
Well I guess that explains it  . I seem to have difficulty with riffs that involve a lot of fast palming like 0000 and then 000 and then 000000 and always changing it around, I find I get confused at higher speeds with that stuff :upset: and Holy Wars has a lot of that, so hopefully by learning Holy Wars I can improve upon this.
|
I don't count. I just... err, go with the flow. Man, that's cheesy.
:smash: |
Yeah I know I don't count either, but sometimes it just gets confusing.
|
Ah, I'm offski anyway.
Is it just me, or is there a lot of crossover between regular posters in the Megadeth/Metallica and Final Fantasy threads? Anyone up for recording Holy Wars or Five Magics anytime soon? :smash: |
MAthiAS recorded the full Holy Wars some time ago, and I'm sure he has only improved since then... Whether he's willing to take the time to get it down again...
Actually, I have a question about Holy Wars.. The intro at least (All I can do), would you pick each note for it, or say use hammer-ons and pull-offs for it, only playing the first note for each triple? And yeah, Megadeth > Metallica :D No interest in FF though. |
I learned it first using legato, but it should be picked I think. Least it sounds better picked to me.
|
Ok cool, cause yeah I can do it legato, and a mate does it picked, it sounds better picked, just wondering :thumb:
Cheers. |

I pick the beginning of Holy Wars. It just sounds more metal. I'd be up for recording the rythm to Five Magics! Can't do any of the lead in that song, that's fucking insanity right there.
|
I play bass and will do either song. I already know both of them.
fatbandit plays bass too afaik :upset: |
I'd record the leads and rhythm if needed for Holy Wars. Five Magics... if I put the effort in I might be able to play those leads, but I'm already working on like 5 songs.
I'm weird like that, I learn songs exactly one lick at a time, and I usually can't get one up to speed in just one sitting. So I end up learning many songs at a time slowly. Right now its: Cacophony - Concerto Pagannini - 24th Caprice Jason Becker - Serrana (probably won't finish this one any time soon :upset: ) Pagannini - 22nd Caprice excerpt Pagannini - 5th Caprice In order of when I started them, and I'm still perfecting parts from these... Vivaldi - Summer - Presto Pagannini - Perpetual Motion Oh yeah, these are awesome. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Styx/1393/guitar/xotic.html |
fatbandit plays bass too afaik :upset:
/feels dumb haha, that's cool, he should probably do them, I'm sure he posts in this thread periodically. I just started coming in here more recently |
Personally I think the more people who submit work the better, I mean you may have a totally different tone to fatbandit, it could be cooler. But we'll never know unless you submit
Edit:
Oh yeah, these are awesome. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Styx/1393/guitar/xotic.html
Yeah, cheers for them man :thumb: |
Vivaldi - Summer - Presto
Yeah I learned a few parts from that song too. Great song. I could do rhythm for any Megadeth song if you want me to. It doesn't really matter but if you need someone to I can do it. |
fatbandit plays bass too afaik :upset:
Um what does afaik mean? I'm stupid. |
As far as I know.
|
Oh, I shall write that down in my booklet of internet phrases for future references. Thanks.
|
Yeah, I don't mind other people submitting stuff :)
My Five magics is hella sloppy though. I use a pick to get the right sound, but my string crossing with a pick over 4 strings isn't so hot :/ And my normal fingerstyle tone doesn't record well. It farts. I think I have a crap soundcard. So for recording on my computer, I use a trebly pick tone. I'm starting to prefer using a pick for metal. I don't like using it for the 5h7 10p7 bit on Holy Wars though. Infact, I find it quite hard to get the 10 in the 10p7 to sound at that pace :( :smash: |
does anyone have a link to that guy's recording of Holy Wars? i'd love to hear it! and yeah, it sounds better picked IMO, that's what i do. it's pretty easy to play nice triplets if you get a nice galloping rhythm going.
yeah, anyone got that cover of holy wars that MAthiAS did? |
I might see if I have the means to do a Holy Wars recording now.
I used a bad tab and did the rest by ear (which I'm not very good at), so I've no idea how accurately I play it, but its how I play it with my band, so... Meh. :smash: |

No mic
hxxp://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1X82KBBRZ1RZI2Y1F75XY7962G It was a first take, its very rough, I chuffed some bits up, my tone is awful (dagnabbit you computer!), and my pick skills aren't too hot yet :( I'm done making excuses. ¬_¬ Its also FAR too early to be recording... :smash: |

Its weird. I can't play for sh!t when I press the record button
But yeh, critique all you want... Chances are I know what I've done wrong though. One of my open E's doesn't sound, as I put my thumb on it by accident, for example :/ And my timing is well off in some parts. Ah well :) I'm REALLY lazy and can't be bothered to do a second take :p :smash: |

so I found the link to mathias' holy wars cover, but it's YSI so it's long expired. would someone mind reuploading? much appreciated :thumb:

I'll do it later if no-one else does, I've got to shoot to a gig in a minute. |
Yeah, I can't gallop with a pick very well, especially with string skipping involved. Same story with The Four Horsemen. I can't play that riff with a pick very well either.
:smash: |

Lucky ass! Good luck. |

The PMRC was an organization in the 80's, founded by Al Gore's wife Tipper Gore, with the intent of censoring songs on albums which lyrics could be percieved as offensive. There was quite a debate about it, and at one point, there was even this huge press conference about it, with Twisted Sisters Dee Snyder and, perhaps a bit surprisingly, John Denver (yes, the same dude that wrote "Leaving On A Jet Plane", and later, ironically, was killed in a plane crash) on the side of Rock N' Roll (obviously), and said conference even became a movie later on. For more info about the matter at hand, I'd recommend seeing "Decline Of Western Civilization II: The Heavy Metal Years" |

I've never seen a more blatant form of Authoritarian control over something like music. |
I've actually pondered that quite a bit. I mean, todays scape goat is rap music (and with idiots like 50 Cent and Eminem at the forefront, its no wonder), but OTOH, they are getting bashed for the same "bad" ideals as bands such as Slayer and Megadeth (amongst others) were critized for supposedly enforcing back in the 80's.
And today, we know that despite all these bands so called "violent" messages and "degenerate" lifestyles, their fans are today normal, working people like everybody else - even those who still listen to the music (take that with a grain of salt, if you will, as a lot of those older fans were parts of Gen X ;) ) So I guess the question is - when rappers are being critized for lyrics about "smackin' dem bitches" and "****in' up da white man", is history just repeating itself (its very stupid an annoying self at that, too)? |
I wrote about 'Hook In Mouth' for a part of an essay on telling the truth.

Rap is mainstream and promoted all over the place. |
