^hey good to see you around again :)
Aghora and Sleep Terror would do as well. |
Cynic is similar, but I prefer Athiest.

Cynic Pestilence The only one's I can think of at the moment.

Alarum is the next best bet. Coprofago are like a mix of Meshuggah and Atheist, but their name is pretty silly. You could also try out Yakuza; they're a Hardcore/Metalcore group with free-jazz sax parts. Miles Daviscore, I guess you could call it, hah.

Try Canvas Solaris. They're instrumental though.
Cheers guys, and Ali instrumental is no problem. Orestes, I know Sleep Terror already but I'll try and check out Aghora. |
Can anybody reccomend me some slow songs? Somewhat along the lines of Opeth's Damnation.
|
Woohoo, me and my girlfriend caught a Therapy? drum stick, we had to fight like 5 minutes for it, though, there were people stuck on it. All in all a cool gig.
|
Haha.
Therapy? fanboy. :p (The avatar is pretty cool.) |
Whoops, wrong thread, haha.
|
Can anybody recommend any bands similar to Ephel Duath or Atheist? I really like the jazzy and progressive elements.
Try out the last two albums by Lux Occulta, Mother and the Enemy and My Guardian Anger. |
Yeah I was wondering that too... :p
As to slow songs, try some doom metal like Candlemass and Isole. |
Can anybody reccomend me some slow songs? Somewhat along the lines of Opeth's Damnation.
The only band that I can recommend that's anything like Opeth would be Woods Of Ypres. Though I'm not a huge Opeth fan, I will say not many bands sound at all like them. Even Woods is VERY different, but if you like Opeth you should like them. |

King Crimson's Discipline? I don't know, man. That's a tough album to emulate. I have other recommendations that would be more along the lines of Opeth's other albums...and that is November's Doom and My Dying Bride. |
I just want some soft slow songs. Kinda like Nickelbacks Hero or something. Just in the mood for those types of songs.
|
Slow?
Then you want more recent Katatonia, Anathema, Agalloch, November's Doom (slow but heavy), Pelican, and The Devin Townsend Band. Devy is great when you need a break from typical metal. |
Yea, but Devy's not acoustic in any sense of the word. Happy/uplifting, yes, but he's still mad heavy.
Slow soft songs? Even though she's not really like Opeth in any way, Tori Amos is always good for some great chill music. |

Try Pinapple Thief. |
(Time to throw out my obligatory folk/viking recommendations)
Try Ulver's Kveldssanger or Empyrium's Where At Night The Wood Grousse Plays. Both are completely acoustic, and soothing and beautiful as hell. EDIT: Ack, wrong album  It's corrected now. |

Nerina Pallot - Damascus /first thing I thought of |
Is 'Hero' the Superman song?
I thought it was Spiderman... |
Yeah, it's spider man.
Go with Green Carnation's Acoustic Verses for the slow recommendation. |
I thought the hero song involving superman was Five For Fighting - Superman (It's Not Easy).

You are correct sir. For soft accousitic stuff go for Opeth-Damnation or Pink Moon by Nick Drake. |
His original suggestion was asking for things in the vein of Damnation...
Either way, I stand by my recommendation; Green Carnation - Acoustic Verses |
Nerina Pallot - Damascus
/first thing I thought of
Don't see you a lot anymore in the R&M. me = high_voltage_acdc since I don't think I've seen you post since my name change a few months ago. |
You are correct sir.
For soft accousitic stuff go for Opeth-Damnation or Pink Moon by Nick Drake.
An album similar to Nick Drake's style is The Good Son by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. |
Try Canvas Solaris. They're instrumental though.
Do you have their new one yet? I should be getting it soon, hoping it's worth it.
Don't see you a lot anymore in the R&M.
I'm actually here quite a bit, just not posting all that often :) |
What Mekong Delta album should I get first?
Assuming I can find it of course! |
I've been meaning to check out the self-titled for ages now, having heard it was good.
|
Do you have their new one yet? I should be getting it soon, hoping it's worth it.
I sort of have it in Mp3 form thanks to Neuro. I've mostly forgotten that I have it though, so I'm not really sure if it's good. |
Mekong Delta is cool progressive thrash type stuff. Both the self-titled and The Music of Erich Zann are great.
