I agree that strummer did some tough stuff. but stopping people spitting at his shows and the whole rock against racism thing, which flew in the face of the nihilstic/hedonistic side of punk which really floats my boat. I don't know, he just seems kinda white middle class kid like me in some of his lyrics

I bought Passion Is A Fashion and I'm not sure if I like it. It's really interesting and there's a lot of good anecdotes, but there's way to much "maybe" and "we can assume that" and "they possibly were".
There's something really interesting in the chapter about Joe: Joe Strummer vs John Mellor. And Sean, have you finished LFHTH? |
Uhh... I'm at the Last Broadcast... the part about Cut the CRap. That was kind of a sad chapter.

ewww. ctc... what was your favorite chapter? |
The part that Billy Bragg wrote was awesome, and so was the Clash In America. I've loved all of it :D.
|
The part that Billy Bragg wrote was awesome, and so was the Clash In America. I've lived all of it :D.
yeah, I loved the billy bragg part too. and the interview that I posted here a while ago. |
cut the crap was their last album no? the less than great one? sorry im a clash noob
|
Cut the Crap was hardly even the Clash. We don't like to talk about it here.
The part Chuck D wrote was great too. |
cut the crap was their last album no? the less than great one? sorry im a clash noob
cut the crap is the album-that-must-not-be-named. Or the album-that-never-really-existed. |
okay I'll keep that in mind. How about Strummer's other stuff? Are the Mescaleros (excuse spelling) any good? Also I hear he fronted the Pogues for a little while...
|
The Mescaleros are awesome, and I heard some live stuff Joe did with the Pouges. It was good.
|
hate to bring up cut the crap but what makes it so awful?
|
Bernie Rhodes wrote some of it, there was no Mick or Topper, and Joe wasn't Joe for that period in time.
This Is England is pretty good though, I've read. |
oh that's right, they got rid of Mick Jones for that one didn't they. How long did Tory Crimes/Terry Chimes last in the band?
|
The Mescaleros are almost as great as The Clash.
Sean: I also loved Greatness From Garageland a lot. And the chapter called Here's Joe Strummer. The interview with Joe in Clash Of The Titan is good too (when the journalists at the party ask him where he got his shirt  ) |
oh that's right, they got rid of Mick Jones for that one didn't they. How long did Tory Crimes/Terry Chimes last in the band?
the lamborghini guy |
I've been playing/listening to punk in some form since i was about 13, but i've only just started to dig the clash. In the past all their idealistic stuff kinda turned me off. But theres some **** fine music under all the idealism
|
jesus h christ. I can say crap and whore but i can't say d amn
|
Terry recorded the first album, and then did some touring for Combat Rock after Topper was gone. |
the lamborghini guy
I didnt notice it was you, post here more andy! To IAN (or whatever) what dont you like about there idealism? |
I noticed that alot of the tracks on From Here to Eternity are from a show the Clash did at Bond's in NYC, which is a really good bootleg.
|
From here to enternity is a bootlegg?
|
I didnt notice it was you, post here more andy!
To IAN (or whatever) what dont you like about there idealism?
I'm just not an idealist. I don't particularly like getting preached at by any kind of idealist. |
From here to enternity is a bootlegg?
No, but Live at Bond's is, and that is were alot of Eternity's tracks come from. |
I bought from here to eternity and it's really good.
and I love their idealism. and I love that too: "At one point he remembers his flatmate (Joe) returning from a few weeks away, bursting through the front door and declaring ecstatically 'I've found God!' before disappearing into his bedroom for a few days never to mention the incident again. Another time, Joe gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a drowned mouse, which had been lured into a trap consisting of a cheese baited ruler and a bucket of water." oh yeah, and I think I forgot to tell you guys how I talked about Joe with Tim Armstrong. I'm awesome. |
yes you are.
|
Bernie Rhodes wrote some of it, there was no Mick or Topper, and Joe wasn't Joe for that period in time.
This Is England is pretty good though, I've read.
This Is England is awesome, I'd even compare it to Washington Bullets or mabye even White Man In Hammersmith(mabye not that far). Anyway, here it is, don't be put off by the strange percussion at the start. hxxp://s25.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2G9S7ZAAGDDM91ZXRB5KXN9BCY Edit:  If I just read you wrong and you really have heard This Is England, you'd be pretty pi'ssed off, so sorry. |
Oh, I've heard it but it isn't on my computer. Thanks. :thumb:
|
