Do you think if I hit Petrucci with a stick a few times he'll agree to make DT play Space dye vest on the next tour?
|
I have read an interview where they say they will never play it unless Kevin Moore is playing it with them.
Unless they changed their mind. |

29. Get an Ibanez. This is not negotiable.
30. Spend 5 hours every day critiquing other musicians on forums. 31. Spend 5 minutes every other day actually practicing your instrument. Great stuff  |

In case people haven't read it yet :D
Ha, genius that is. |

In case people haven't read it yet :D
I didn't find it funny to be honest. Haha, they could have made that 51 rules of prog metal, every other rule is just a continuation of the one before. |
Oh......him.
He's the guitarist from Freak Kitchen, if you (or anyone else) wants you could post your email and I'll send a few tracks. I'd really recommend giving him a try.
I love the way JP uses themes and vocal melodies from Metropolis Pt 1 as guitar solos in Pt 2.
Me too, especially when he throws little variations on them.
I like SFOAM better than awake... I just can't get into awake at all except space dye vest, which is magnificent.
I personally think Scenes From A Memory is kind of boring, there's a couple of great tracks but there's too many tracks that (for me) bring the story along but fail to intrest me on a musical level. Awake is by far my favourite Dream Theater album because it all intrests me musically. At least we have some common ground on 'Space Dye Vest' though. |
Voices is the only song that I enjoy on Awake, I got into it cause it goes from Octavarium to that on Once In a Livetime on winamp, so I always listen to it.
51. Tool is NOT prog. If anyone insists they are, kill them.
/prepares knife |
I'm not sure what I'd class Tool as. hmmmm....
|
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence tickles my fancy quite well.
6 degrees > other DT albums IMO. blind faith and disappear are great songs |
6 degrees > other DT albums IMO.
blind faith and disappear are great songs
The Glass Prison is the best song (on 6DOIT) IMO, after that it's got to be the song 6 Degrees. |
/prepares knife
Med 57 said Tool were prog in his prog feature :smash: |

They legally can't... |
They legally can't...
That can't be right, it's a Dream Theater song, it's just the band's desicion not to play it. |
I'm not fussed that they don't play it...I'm just glad they still play all the goodens like Metrop pt.1 and Learning to Live.
|
Yeah, I'm sure they could, unless KevMo took out an injunction to prevent them of some sort.
|
:) Yeah, I'd say they're alternative/progressive rock, for want of a better genre. They're hard to classify really though. There are definitely elements of prog in their music, anyway.
Alternative/Progressive metal I'd say. |
They're definitely progressive at times, I couldn't understand all of the points on that list.
|
i think they're talented guys, but the effort and talent could make better music. i dont like the songs, only the technical ability.

What songs have you heard. Im not questioning your judgment, I just want to know what songs you have heard. |
I have a few Tool albums. The only songs I listen to offen are Stinkfist and Schism.

i've only had a chance to listen to metropolis II and watched the portnoy DVD. is it they're less accessable stuff? it just didn't click with me i guess |
I've got scenes from a memory which I really like but is it just me or is Train Of Thought and the new one really dull albums? I just find Train Of Thought really boring.
|
I don't listen to Octavium too often for that reason, but I love Train Of Thought. I can't really explain why, because it's opinion based, but I just don't find it boring. The only problem with it is that sometimes it seems they are more concerned with showing off technical ability than writing a good song, but I can live with that.
Do you like the older albums like Awake? |
