I really enjoy Axel's stuff and he was great live at Bang Your Head but man... as a songwriter, he's awesome, but as a producer and (sadly) as a guitarist he's terrible. He's got amazing speed and chops galore but absolutely NO feel at all, which is sad 'cos it really takes away from his excellent songwriting.
Can you recommend an album or song that displays the awesome songwriting ability?

Lord Tim 01-29-2006 07:14 AM

Yeah, check out Wild Obsession.

Real 80s inspired metal/hard rock. :)

Lord Abortion 01-29-2006 08:10 AM

I'm so getting a Human Fortress album

Stoic 01-29-2006 09:47 AM

check out Euroforce as well, it's neoclassical (ala symphony X) with the guy from Human Fortress on vocals.

Lord Abortion 01-29-2006 09:49 AM

I just picked up Defenders of the Crown from Amazon

Steerpike 01-29-2006 10:08 AM

I've been digging them a lot lately. Jioti is a great power metal vocalist.

Lord Abortion 01-29-2006 10:14 AM

The intro to Border raid in Lion's march is just awesome.

jesus christ, this band reminds me of something, I must have listened to a couple of samples in the past. What is a representative song off this album?

haha, it can be a bitch sometimes, like on certain occasions it'll stick to "buffering"

http://www.thymajestie.com/eng/index2.htm

That's their site, it's got some mp3s on it. I'm also sharing the album on soulseek

Yeah I saw the site but "The Chosen" is not available for download and since it was the one that got you into the album, it's the first I want to listen to as well. What's your soulseek username?

not bad at all man! The vocalist accent is pretty sweet and the solo/symphonic parts quite enjoyable (although in overall nothing THAT mind blowing or refreshing). Positive first (although I swear I have listened to them before at some point!) impression, I shall check out for more :)

Stormrider 01-30-2006 08:45 PM

I've just made myself my lil Power Metal dedicated cd, with the likes of Angra, Blind Guardian, Dragon Force, Seven Witches and Sonata Arctica.

All bands I've checked out recently except for Blind Guardian. Good stuff.

CaptainWaits 01-30-2006 10:41 PM

Alright, so I'm looking for a little help...

My local CD store has a few CD's in of bands where I've heard of the band, but haven't actually had a listening experience with the band. So I'm asking for your help! They are...

Nocturnal Rites - Afterlife
Vanishing Point - ??? (something "Dream")

Any good? And what are they comparable too??

Lord Tim 01-31-2006 04:37 AM

Nocturnal Rites - Afterlife ... KILLER album! Speedy, downtuned, aggressive but melodic power metal with excellent vocals!

Vanishing Point - Tangled In Dream ... good album, melodic metal with slight prog and power elements. Good hooks in the songs, but a little inconsistent production-wise in place. Solid album, though.

:)

Greatly appreciate the advice:)

Who are the two comparable too, Band wise??

Lord Tim 01-31-2006 11:40 AM

Nocturnal Rites... ****, that's hard. Think of a raspy style singer a bit like Tony Martin or some of Mamsteen's early vocalists, music which is speedy like Gamma Ray with the same kind of hooks but a heavy Arch Enemy style production and crunch. Great stuff!

VP... Hmm... again, really hard to describe. They toured with Sonata Arctica quite a few years ago (before disappearing off the planet for about 3 years) and that match was fairly good, although they're not as speedy as SA and the vocals are much lower. I couldn't really think of a band off-hand they sound like. Dungeon did quite a few shows with them and that music just always reminds me of them more than anyone else, so I don't know if I'd be the best person to ask, to be honest!

EDIT: They'd likely have some samples up at http://www.vanishing-point.com.au I'd say!

Lord Abortion 01-31-2006 11:43 AM

Man, I love Sonata Arctica...

I'm seeing Dragonforce, Edguy and Sabaton tomorrow.

Fuckin' metal!!
