I hate Dylan and the Dead
I got it because I am a big Dylan fan, but it's pretty brutal stuff.
Face it, you hate it because the Dead completely outshine Dylan. |
No, Dylan and the Dead is actully really bad. :)
thickasabrick: I agree, Animals is probablly my least favorite of all the Floyd's material. After a few days of trying I've come to the conclusion that the Jeff Beck bootleg will never be downloaded. I think it's because my computer doesn't like RAR files. :upset: Has anyone heard of the Incredible String Band? They're really good I downloaded 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion along time ago thinking it was going to be psychedelia and it ended up being British Folk. Not that I was disappointed because this is great music and one of my favorite folk albums for sure. |
Well, Dylan and the Dead certainly isn't great, but it's not terrible. And as I said, Dylan drags the performance down.
Next time I have a few bucks and I'm feeling adventurous, I'm going to get an ISB album from Amazon, along with maybe an H.P. Lovecraft album, etc. Gotta keep expanding the psychedelic collection. Which reminds me, have you heard Clear Light's s/t? I've heard good things about it. |
I don't think The Dead outshine Dylan, I think they find the perfect equalibrium.
As for Uriah Heep being mentioned (I saw it in a quote) on the last page....I've got two, possibly three, of their albums and I actually only listened to them all once. I just didn't really find them that fascinating. Not horrible though, they are worth checking out to see if you like them. |
I've read the whole thread.
Not all at once, but I've read up to the point where I joined in the discussion.
I used to read everything, but after a while I just quit. To read eveything now would be extrememly long. |
I read like 200 pages of this thread before I joined. I was a long-time reader before I started posted. I've been reading back a lot in the thread, and eventually I'll have the whole thread read.

I was thinking I should probably jump in, I knew some of you from the Beatles thread, I just waited for someone to say that I could post to continue the conversation. This thread is hard to become a reg in though. I think robo is our earliest, and he came in a while ago, too. I wonder if there are other threads on this forum with serious regs like us
PS- Me thinks Dylan and the Dead could have been much better if it was done earlier in their careers |

Wow, I think they had some good songs not great though but I would say they were on the better side of the psychedelic scene in LA. It's good stuff check it out. They're bassist played on the Doors albums too and the drummer played with CSN. I wish I could talk Psyche more often. :(
I'm still trying to get H.P. Lovecraft album. I downloaded some songs I thought were by them and it ended up being H.P. Lovecraft's horror stories. :-/ |
Well I heard Paul Rothchild produced Clear Light, so that sparked my interest, as well as recognizing Dallas Taylor's name.
|
He did? That would make sense I mean they did record for Elektra.
It took me awhile to become reg in this thread I remember arguing with Moon about how much more diverse the Grateful Dead were than Pink Floyd or something of that nature. I remember he completely schooled me (even though he should of because they are way more diverse) and felt really bad because I was schooled so hard. |
My guitarist comp was bumped today and I can't help but be satisfied with the results. I can't beleave Jeff Beck got 5th! An all Classic Rock final poll the metal heads were pissed. :D

I was a Jeff Beck noob when that poll was around, but if it happened again now, I'd probably vote Beck. I prefer Gilmour personally, but I won't deny that Beck is the more talented/diverse of the two. |
I love the way allmusic put it:
"While he was as innovative as Jimmy Page, as tasteful as Eric Clapton, and nearly as visionary as Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck never achieved the same commercial success as any of his contemporaries, primarily because of the haphazard way he approached his career." - by Stephen Thomas Erlewine |
That is a nice quote. He seems like he'd be a bit of a weird guy. But, great music is great music.
|
Yeah, I don't really know why Jeff Beck didn't see more success. Obviously he had a lot, but not as much as either of the other famous yardbirds.
|
Crosby, Stills, and Nash are here tomorrow.
|
Hey...im really into classic rock. But i only really have heard the more famous bands (the who, led zeppelin, the stones) does anyone know any really good lesser known classic rock bands that I could check out?
|

Sounds like a plan. Hey Schyma, what's the most psychedelic album you've ever heard? I find a lot of the so called psychedelic bands are really just on the same level of psychedelia as say....the Jefferson Airplane, or hell, even The Byrds. |

Hey btw congrats on R&Mer of the month Ken. I don't think I voted for you..but no hard feelings right? :p |
Nah, no hard feelings, ya don't mind if I never rep ya do ya?
Does it matter if I do? |
So because I'm listening to "Presence of the Lord", I feel compelled to whore Blind Faith again.
Who else likes these guys? I would have killed to get more than one album out of them :( |

I find a lot of the so called psychedelic bands are really just on the same level of psychedelia as say....the Jefferson Airplane, or hell, even The Byrds.
That's hard to say......USA, PATGOD, Red Krayola's Parable of Arble Lands, Os Mutantes' s/t, Faust So Far, Amon Duul II's Yeti, CAN's Tago Mago, Frank Zappa's Were Only in it for the Money and Freak Out and Ash Ra Tempel's self titled would be the most psychedelic albums I've heard but it's really what you consider psychedelic. Is the obscurity of the lyrics? Is it a space freak jam? Is it how trippy it is? Is the one that's the most unlistinable? Is it the one who's music was made by the person highest on LSD? It differs but if I had to narrow it to one I'd say PATGOD is the purest most difinitive Psychedelic album to ever exist which really contains everything psychedelic music is supposed to be.
......then again there is the Cosmic Jokers too. ;) |
I'd agree with PATGOD, however my knowlege of psychadelia isn't exactly extensive. Me and my buddy were listening to that album while REALLY stoned last week while camping. I love that album so much. I still like Gilmours work better though. ;)
