I wonder if mine does..

Hmm.

If they do, I will be a frequent visitor.

What do you do, just buy from there? Or take them and rip them onto your computer?

Check them out for 3 weeks (free) and rip them onto my computer. Good way of seeing if you like a cd enough to buy it. And it's legal, unlike Limewire or any of those programs.

WelcomeToTheMachine 09-01-2005 04:18 PM

Yeah, i got a 4 disc Zeppelin box set from there... accidently walked out of the library with it...:)

I borrow them with my library card, you get them for like three weeks. You could probably rip them if you wanted...but my computer usually just messes up badly when I try ripping or burning albums so I haven't tried it lately.

rockinbass17 09-01-2005 04:20 PM

My library sells tapes
no CD's.

Illmatic 09-01-2005 04:21 PM

Nothing wrong with tapes.

I'm thinking of selling the CD player in my car and getting a tape deck in there...for the price of one CD you can probably get 10 or 11 tapes.

I've got a tape deck in my car, but I also have one of those things where you buy a special tape, and it hooks up to a discman so you can listen to CDs. So basically I just have the cheapest versions of everything. I've got some great tapes though, today I had Dylan and the Dead in there...amazing album. I got the Wall for like 7 bucks.

edit- I found an album at my library from a bluegrass duo my guitar teacher was in. It's him and this lady, she sings and they both play guitar...he plays a couple other instruments too. They both wrote half the songs each. It's a really good album. I also saw a Santana Box set there that I'm gonna borrow next time! I actually haven't looked through most of the CDs there.

NP: Bob Dylan - Queen Jane Approximately (I was listening to it on Dylan and the Dead this morning, now I'm listening to it on Highway 61 Revisted)

I hate Dylan and the Dead

I got it because I am a big Dylan fan, but it's pretty brutal stuff.

But yeah, tapes are hella cheap...when I did have a tapedeck in my car I would just go to yardsales and used CD stores and I could get a dozen for about 15 bucks.

:amaze: You used the word 'hate' in the same sentence as both Dylan and the Dead! Blasphemy! Actually I'm not gonna act surprised, a lot of people don't like live Dylan. Actually...and I just laughed thinking about this. Putting Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead on the same live album is kind of a juxtaposition. Although I really like live Dylan.

Illmatic 09-01-2005 04:29 PM

I think Dylan's live stuff is good (based on the bootlegs and Before The Flood), but that album is just agonizing. I can't explain it.

robo2448 09-01-2005 04:31 PM

I love Dylan and the Dead. Both Dylan and the Dead probably play below their usual levels, but I think it's still great. It's just a fun album to listen to. Queen Jane is definitely one of my favorite Dylan songs. Once school starts, I'll be really bored and will probably make a list of my favorite Dylan songs.

Should I buy Before the Flood? I hadn't heard great things about it, but that's just from Amazon reviewers who I don't really trust. How do you like the album?

Did you read the part of Chronicles where Dylan is describing his situation at the time he's collaborating with The Grateful Dead? Best part of the book.

I still need Chronicles. Since we've been talking about the library, I should check to see if my library has that.

I'd get it.

Don't listen to Amazon reviewers.

Half of them are gimmicks anyways.

My school has rendered me practically paralized by AP Calc. Must. get. into. good. college....

I really like Ballad of a Thin Man, its a little bit hypnotic

robo2448 09-01-2005 04:42 PM

I'm liking that Paul McCartney CD I got from my library. It's all covers of '50s rock songs, it's kind of like John Lennon's Rock and Roll album. Paul has a good voice for those kinds of songs.

np- McCartney- Twenty Flight Rock

I'm listening to Ballad of a Thin Man right now! I just started it as I clicked into this thread. Great song. God**** Bob Dylan is amazing. I've got a wicked caffeine buzz right now, I've never actually felt this way from drinking tea.

Ballad of a Thin Man has really haunting lyrics. The first time I heard that song I was like woah. I was blown away the first time I heard Highway 61 Revisited. By the time I got to Desolation Row, I felt like I was in another world.

np- Sheep- This conversation is making me think I should put on some Dylan, but PF is good for now.

thickasabrick 09-01-2005 05:15 PM

To tell you the truth, I don't really like Animals very much. I like the concept and everything, but I think it's Pink Floyds worst album.

redlense 09-01-2005 05:55 PM

The Wall

Yeah, you had to be in a certain frame of mind for Animals. The Wall is one of the best albums of all time.[INDENT]Dave

I haven't read this entire thread yet....but I'm finding it fascinating....
I recently purchased America Live In Central Park 1979 DVD & it's changed my life as well as Woodstock The Music DVD which goes off!!!
Here are some of the bands which I think are truly awesome...look them up on Google:

*Leslie West's Mountain (very Heavy)
*Uriah Heep (who I believe influenced Iron Maiden)
*Marc Bolan & T.Rex
*Black Sabbath
*Jefferson Airplane
*Ten Years After
*Santana

I'll have to stop....I'm getting too excited......

Yours Truly,

Simon :D

I've read the whole thread.

Not all at once, but I've read up to the point where I joined in the discussion.

JonG 09-01-2005 06:45 PM

In addition to robo's post, does anybody have Before the Flood, and are willing to upload?
