I bought Genesis - Foxtrot today. And am listening to that awesome Taste of Blues song right now (the 17-minute one).
I LOVE Foxtrot, Supper's Ready>everything else |
I just started listening to it, the first song is good so far.
But yea, I'm looking forward to Supper's Ready. |
Doors are pretty good.
|
I just downloaded the Moloch album, the guitarist is very good.
My mom just came home and she brougth me a book called History of the Blues, I can't wait to read it. |
So...
I'm making a video for my biology project, which is an oral report with some form of visual aid on a state or national park. I did one called Carolina Beach State Park, which is right across the water from my dad's house in Wilmington. I shot a lot of raw film there, and my sister took pictures, so I'm just going to put some together in a five-minute video somewhat synchronized to my report I guess... I'm trying to think of a cool song to have low-volume in the video, suggestions? By the way, there's a part where a Venus flytrap closes on a pinestraw, that's my climax, so pick a song with a short cool part for that ;) |
I have to write about a genre for the paper and the album I think is most important. I think I'm just going to go with CR even though its not a genre, no one will notice. CR, Post-Punk, Pop or Alt Rock is my other considerations. A lot of my choices were took already. Oh, and if I do do CR the album will be Exile, surprise?
Not at all surprised. That would be flippin sweet if you did Exile. Livewired: If I were you, my eyes would already be diggin thru that book. I gotta check out books from my library for something like that soon. |
How goes ol' droogs? So has anyone downloaded that Arthur Lee album? Apparently no-one has judging by all the posts I've read.
I stole a lawn gnome off of someones front steps.
I plan on taking a big mushroom statue from a yard far, far away someday, but it's heavy as hell and it's too far away from my house to take on foot. This man lacks a car.... |
I hit my head on a big shroom statue once.
|
I wish I had a big Mushroom statue.
|
I wish I had some shrooms.
:shifty: |
I'm one of those guys that loves to do bad stuff, but then feels bad afterward (most of the time). I'd take it, then leave it on his doorstep and run like hell two days later :-/
np: Pink Floyd - The Gold It's In The... Obscured By Clouds is absolutely awesome. I'm glad someone sent it out, my CD store never has it. |
I wish I were a giant Mushroom.
|
I wish I could find a giant Mushshroom.
|
Wow, for once I'm not the one spamming up the CR thread :p
o shi Might as well say something about mushrooms... uhh... I like sauteed mushrooms with my beef tips at Western Sizzlin... yeah |
I wish I were a giant Mushroom.
I am a giant mushroom. |
I am a giant mushroom.
I'm trying to find a way to say "smoke you" without totally sounding ghey. |
I can't get over the awesomeness of Obscured By Clouds... every song is good. I'm digging Free Four right now, I can't get over Waters singing "You are the Angel of Death" with this really upbeat, uplifting music in the background.
yea i was worried that was just my imagination. o i just discovered a great classic rock band by the name of The Moody Blues. now they are good. check out "Nights in White Satin," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Ride my SeeSaw," and "I'm just a singer (in a rock and roll band)."
Good pick. I saw them in concert last year, it was pretty sweet. But yeah, I think a lot more teenagers, as myself, are getting into classic rock because they're realizing what true rock'n'roll is. Either that or it's because they grew up listening to it with their parents and liked it. Sadly most teenagers still don't get the talant involved with music, which is why powerpop bands and the such are so popular, never got that. |

The only vinyl I ever find is for like 17 dollars and no way in hell am I going to buy something for that much. I remember someone mentioned he doesn't buy vinyl if its over 5 dollars. |

If I were to divide psychedelic rock into two groups I'd use Syd era Floyd and Jefferson Airplane as the two main groups. Jefferson Airplane groups are common, they often have that groovy San Fran reverbed stratocaster sound like the Airplane do...and they often aren't always that original. I'm not putting down bands like the 13th Floor Elevators and saying they aren't original, but they all have that similar sound. Syd groups aren't as common, they have usually created their own style/sound of music instead of just going with the conventional San Fran psych sound. I actually find it very hard to find bands like this, you usually have to look to other countries like South America and places like that. They all have a different sound, but they are all still psychedelic. So basically, I don't know if I could actually describe The Beat of the Earth...but I'd say it's more of a Syd group than an Airplane group. If that helps. |
I have a hard time finding vinyl for a reasonable price around where I live, and I've searched pretty thoroughly. My first one I ever bought was DSOTM for 25 bucks, I got completely ripped off.
Beat of The Earth is awesome. |

Beat of The Earth is awesome.
I think DSOTM is worth 25 bucks if its in good condition. I think I paid that much for the CD (Canadian money?). I've got doubles of DSOTM on vinyl, one doesn't have an album cover though..I'm not sure where it went. Last night I burned Beat of the Earth onto a CD and took it to my friends house to jam. We cranked it up super loud and then I played guitar and my friend played the organ...it was awesome. I love playing with Delay. |
midnightrider lives in michigan though. i could find that vinyl for a lot less in good condition. i paid 8 dollars for my cd new.
|
midnightrider lives in michigan though.
What? *Points to location* And thickasabrick, I've since seen Dark Side for around $10 in good condition. |
im on drugs. i thought you lived in michigan but it was someone else. haha. my bad.
|
Haha, no problem man.
NP: The Grateful Dead - Uncle John's Band |
Well obviously I think the Beat of Earth album is sweet because I sent it out. It's definitely closer to Syd than San Franscisco psychedelia, but it's not like either. My best description would be take Insteller Overdrive, double it's length and psychedelicness, and add Indian chanting and sitar, and you get it. In other words, it's freaking trippy stuff.
I introduced two friends to Chris' site today, and I told them to download Beat of the Earth first. They're actually cool and will probably dig it. I might try to get them to join mx too eventually. np: Patto- The Man |

(Intersteller Overdrive x 2) + Indian chanting and sitar + psych harmonica + Jim Morrison type vocals = Beat of the Earth?
I'm really getting excited about downloading this. Any other albums you've downloaded (from the site) that fit the description of the early Floyd group you have described? I like how you split psychedelia into two groups like that. Psychedelia group #1 -------------------- -Beatles (?) -United States of America -Os Mutantes -Velvet Underground -Early Pink Floyd -The Doors (?) -Red Krayola -Silver Apples -Soft Machine Psychedelia group #2 -------------------- -Jefferson Airplane -The Misunderstood -Spirit -13th Floor Elevators -Grateful Dead -Traffic (?) -Quicksliver Messenger Service (?) -Moby Grape -The Byrds -Jimi Hendrix (?) Am I understanding this correctly? I'm a little torn between which group to put some of them in..... |
