I would get Budokon. It has both stuff from ToT and 6DOIT, as well as the awsome Instrumedley and a few songs from other cds (Pull Me Under).
thats what i'll say too. you get a variety of DT with Budokan. you get heavy DT (ToT stuff), mellow DT (Solitary Shell), instrumental-awesomeness DT (instrumedly, SOC), and classic DT (pull me under). |
Budokon may be slightly more money, but its definetly worth it.
|
That's to be expected from someone who has dimebag as their username, ToT is by far their darkest, heaviest album. However, that isn't what DT is about to me. I think anyone new should check out Awake or I&W to see what DT really is about.
i have images and words and awake and personally im not a massive fan of I & W i much prefer ToT but yeah your right its down to my fav style of music, still waiting to hear the new one octarivium if its spelt like that though. |
Budokan blew my balls off.
Solitary shell is absoutely incredible, the second disk of 6DOIT Has barely been out of my ears since. Goodnight kiss and the war inside my head are brilliant too. Hollow years is a surprisingly great track, I should listen to FII more often. I'm getting the CD now. |
I should listen to FII more often.
Too right. Live at the Marquee has been in my CD player for about a week now. Labrie's vocals are absolutly incredible. |
New thing:
If DT did a set with two tracks from every album, what would you want? WDADU-The killing hand/ Fortune in lies Images and words- Surrounded/metropolis Awake- Space dye vest/ The silent man ACOS-title track/ perfect strangers FII-Hollow years/ take away my pain SFAM: the spirit carries on/ beyond this life SDOIT:Disk 1- the glass prison/misunderstood disk 2-Goodnight kiss/ solitary shell TOT-In the name of God/Endless sacrifice 8VM-These walls/the answer lies within Encore: wait for sleep/Learning to live This dying soul octavarium |
Budokon may be slightly more money, but its definetly worth it.
Yeah Budokon is $15.99 while the others are $9.90, but I'm going to go with that one because it seems like it gives me the best mix of their different styles, which is what I'm looking for since it'll be my first DT album. Thanks everybody. |

I'd definitly agree, Dream Theater with the prog elements overpowered by the metal elements is bad as far as I care. In response to Lord Abortions thing: WDADU: Status Seeker/YTSE Jam Images and Words: Metropolis/Under A Glass Moon Awake: Erotomania/Space Dye Vest FII: New Mellenium/Hells Kitchen Scenes: The Spirit Carries On/Dance of Eternity 6DOIT Disk 1: The Glass Prison/Disapear 6DOIT Disk 2: Sollitary Shell/Goodnight Kiss ToT: Endless Sacrifice/In the Name of God Encore: Finally Free Learning To Live A Change of Seasons |
I was really put off by the setlist for Budokan when I first saw it. How wrong I was
|
I was really put off by the setlist for Budokan when I first saw it. How wrong I was
So was I, because I just saw that all the classics from Images and Words and Awake were not on it. |
I was really put off by the setlist for Budokan when I first saw it. How wrong I was
So was I but the first three songs blew my brain up and then the rest also did. |
New thing:
If DT did a set with two tracks from every album, what would you want?
I like these, but they'd usually be the same anyway. WDADU:- Status Seeker, A Fortune in Lies. I&W:- Learning to Live*, Metropolis.* Awake:- A Mind Beside Itself (...In my mind it's one song), Space Dye Vest. Change of Seasons:- ACOS* and The Zeppelin Medley. FII:- New Millenium, Peruvian Skies:- LTE:- Universal Mind, Acid Rain. SFAM:- Overture 1928, Beyond This Life. 6DOIT:- The Glass Prison, Misunderstood. ToT:- ITNOG, This Dying Soul. Octavarium:- Octavarium, The Root Of All Evil. *= Encore. If you could see them cover any album in the world, which one would it be and why? |

They covered the song 2112 a while ago... And Roundabout by Yes... |
WDADU - A Fortune In Lies / YTSE Jam
I&W - Metropolis Pt.1 / Take the Time Awake - Lie / Innocence Faded FII - Hollow Years / Trial of Tears SFAM - Beyond This Life / Finally Free 6DOIT - The Glass Prison / About to Crash TOT - In The Name of God / This Dying Soul 8V - The Root Of All Evil / Octavarium |
So was I, because I just saw that all the classics from Images and Words and Awake were not on it.
Yeah, they could have done without maybe new millenium or stream of conciousness, but it's still brilliant. I made a couple of changes. Notably adding SFAM which I contrived to miss out, and replacing caught in a web with the silent man...and adding an encore. I would love them to cover Iced earth-night of the stormrider NP-6DOIT:Overture |
WDADU- Killing Hand/Afterlife
I&W- Take The Time/Metropolis I Awake- Erotomania/Space Dye Vest FII- Hollow Years/New Millenium SFAM- Fatal Tragedy/Finally Free 6DOIT- Glass Prison/About To Crash TOT- Vacant/SOC 8v- Panic Attack and Octavarium. |
WDADU- A Fortune In Lies / Afterlife

Anyone else think the odd backing vocals on The test that stumped them all sounds like System of a down?

Labrie would most likely sound aweful singing Staley stuff though, but i'd still be interesting to see. |
They only really cover good music, so Alice in Chains is out of the question
EDIT: /remembers the Elton John covers. anything is possible... |
Apologies for the double post, but where the hell is the commentary on LATB?!
|
Apologies for the double post, but where the hell is the commentary on LATB?!
I never watched it with commentary, but check out the options section or disk two. |
WDADU-Ytse Jam... and that's all I know. :upset:
Images and words- Metropolis, under a glass moon Awake- Erotomania, Lie ACOS- Probably acts 3-5 of ACOS, and... The big medley, why not. FII-Hell's kitchen, trial of tears SFAM: dance of eternity/ beyond this life SDOITisk 1- the glass prison... and that's all I know :upset:x2 TOT-In the name of God/stream of consciousness 8VM-panic attack, a little octavarium, why not. |
The documentary is entertaining, look at all those people walking past Petrucci in the street like he's a normal non Godly man.
|
The d0cumentary is entertaining, look at all those people walking past Petrucci in the street like he's a normal non Godly man.
Yeah, they have no idea that they just walked by a guitar god. Im sure its like that in America and Europe also. |
Apologies for the double post, but where the hell is the commentary on LATB?!
There's no commentary, they did the documentary instead, which is much better I think. |
There's no commentary, they did the d0cumentary instead, which is much better I think.
They should have done both. |
You saying that Elton John and Alice in Chains make bad music?
I'm saying Alice in chains do. Elton John is fine if you like that sort of thing, but I hate Grunge. |
It'll be great if DT covered some Symphony X
|
It'll be great if DT covered some Symphony X
Symphony X and/or Nevermore would be amazing. |
It'll be great if DT covered some Symphony X
They played a live gig with Napalm Death's singer and they played "Damage Inc." That should count for something, I guess. |
I only just figured out that i love In The Name Of God.:p I never even noticed it before that. BTW does anyone think that the start of Octavarium(song) sounds a lot like Pink Floyd for the first 3 mins or so.
it was based on that i think they said. to whomever is doing that college radio thingy... i cant say anything abt WDADU i dont even have it yet :( I&W: under a glass moon. short (relatively), progressive, very DT-defining. plus a guitar solo that will blow the pants and socks off of everyone who hears it. good way to open. awake: go with lie. or the mirror. gives you contrast with UAGM. OR SPACE-DYE VEST :naughty: FII: peruvian skies SFAM: fatal tragedy, the spirit carries on. 6DOIT (disc 1): the glass prison OR misunderstood 6DOIT (disc 2): goodnight kiss, solitary shell ToT: endless sacrifice 8vm: TROAE that's about 80 minutes, which gives you around 10 to talk. note i just rounded times and used the longer songs when i listed a choice. |
The d0cumentary is entertaining, look at all those people walking past Petrucci in the street like he's a normal non Godly man.
:p if i saw him in the streets...idk what i'd do. when i was at gigantour, he looked at me cuz i was on my chair yelling and he nodded. HE NODDED :O!!!!! that means personal attention biatches. [\patheticfanboyness] whoops sorry for the double post. i like double posts... :] |
petrucci talked to me , gave me one his guitars and introduced me too his family yeh that was a good day...
