^ Threads look like they have been merged.

Riva 05-10-2006 04:54 AM

Yes, they were. Sorry, I should have said something.

Bands similar to Kyuss are Grand Magus and Clutch, to my mind.

Jacaranda 05-10-2006 06:50 AM
Can anyone recommend me some more bands like Kyuss.
Masters of Reality
Fu Manchu
Electic Wizard
Nebula
Orange Goblin

Those are the basics.

Thanks

Also worth checking out:

Karma To Burn
Church Of Misery
Acrimony
Alabama Thunderpussy
Devil To Pay
Hognose

Out of those, Devil To Pay and Karma To Burna re most Kyuss-like

Bartender 05-10-2006 04:05 PM

I used to have a song hanging around by Karma to Burn. Got it off a demo/sample disc thing, I think. Wonder where it went.

I'm looking for some Folk-Metal. I've recently gotten into Skyclad (Folkemon) and Korpiklaani (Spirit of the Forest), so any suggestions are appreciated. They can be more folk or more metal based, so there's no real grounds to go on.

Suidakra is good too.

Txus 05-14-2006 02:18 PM

Yeah, I've got a fair amount of Finntroll and Vintersorg. I'm not crazy about Wintersun, but I'll check out Suidakra.

I was told to post this here

I have started to grow sick of music that lacks great instrumental skill. For the past few days I have been listening to Dream Theater mostly. They are one of my favorite bands. I really enjoy almost all of their work. So judging by the fact that I like progressive music (rock and classical mostly) and all. Please recommend me some bands that would fit into my likings. I am listening to Dragonforce right now and giving them a shot. Oh and I prefer music that has lyrics, but I also appreciate a good instrumental now and then. Any musical suggestions are appreciated.

dUSK 05-17-2006 10:31 AM

If you haven't already investigated Symphony X, do it now. Otherwise, I don't have much else to recommend you that will excite you, judging by what you have already said.

How do you feel about harsh vocals? Some good Tech Death might take you fancy if your into that kind of thing.

Txus 05-17-2006 10:35 AM

Hmmm...let's see. Try some:
Planet X
Andromeda
Bozzio Levin Stevens
Pain Of Salvation
Gordian Knot (Instrumental)

I did last night and I like them a lot. Great band.

Harsh vocals are okay, but I prefer clean. I listened to some Opeth last night and they sound like they take some listening to actually like. I'm sure they will grow on me.

Okay I will look 'em up on myspace tonight.

Can anybody recommend any bands similar to Ephel Duath or Atheist? I really like the jazzy and progressive elements.

ArcLite 05-17-2006 03:06 PM

Cynic is similar, but I prefer Athiest.

Alarum is the next best bet.

Coprofago are like a mix of Meshuggah and Atheist, but their name is pretty silly. You could also try out Yakuza; they're a Hardcore/Metalcore group with free-jazz sax parts. Miles Daviscore, I guess you could call it, hah.

Try Canvas Solaris. They're instrumental though.
