Pre black is a mix of emotional and other - songs like Creeping Death and Four Horsemen have no emotion at all, but things like Fade to Black have great deep lyrics.

As a whole i think Black onward is more emotional with BRILLIANT songs like Outlaw torn, NEM, both Unforgivens, Infact all songs on Load and Realod/ black and some of St anger is stuff the ppl can relate to and also have very deep meanings.
- songs like Creeping Death and Four Horsemen have no emotion at all
well creeping death is about moses and the plagues, like

"Slaves
Hebrews born to serve, to the pharaoh
Heed
To his every word, live in fear
Faith
Of the unknown one, the deliverer
Wait
Something must be done, four hundred years

So let it be written, so let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written, so let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh son
I'm creeping death"
and when he says blood , h4e is saying that on the door if they put lambs blood there he will pas it, this is what i realized, but i never read the lyrics to find this out, i just listened closely

Hitroshimite 06-11-2004 04:38 PM

For a song to have emotion doesn't mean it has to be 'deep' or depressing. It just means that it has to evoke a certain feeling from you. In the case of Creeping Death and Four Horseman, that feeling is anger. And anger is as valid a feeling as any.

Burdcheese 06-11-2004 04:42 PM

Holy triple posting, 5-in-a-row. (doesn't know the 5 equivalent of quadruple).

Let me reread the last few pages and I shall join thine discussions grand master squirrel

Burdcheese 06-11-2004 04:52 PM

Its interesting to see how the lyrical themes have developed across the albums.
KEA - Standard teenage kicks/ rebellion
RTL - Dealing with the "bigger" issues in an obvious way (eg.FFWF, RTL)
MOP - Again issues, but this time much more subtle (Leper Messiah/Disposable Heroes)
AJFA - Again dealing with a theme, but with greater depth.

And then post-Black album, the albums lose the one set theme and are on a mixture of subjects.

Then finally St. Anger, pure undilated anger - ultimately shallow as a result.

Baodegoth 06-11-2004 04:55 PM

I'll try to sum up the lyrics in the albums:

Kill 'Em All: i don't really think he talks about something important or personal, just kick some a**.

Ride The Lightning: i think it's a mix between personal feelings(fade to black) and the problems in the world(ride the lightning).

Master Of Puppets: this is much more personal than the last two(mop- where he talks about addiction or sanatarium) he also mentions the problems in the world.

...And Justice For All: well this is the "f*** the world" album, the "f*** the system" album..all the lyrics (except dyers eve where he talks about his childhood) are related to justice/injustice.

Metallica(Black Album): this is where james starts getting more personal(the unforgiven; nothing else matters;the god that failed).

Load: imo it's the album with the best lyrics...except for "ain't my bitch" and "ronnie" it's all personal.

Reload: again the mix between the personal lyrics and his view on the world(i think low man's lyric is about someone that wants to forget his past but it's no longer accepted, though i'm not sure).

St. Anger: probably the most personal album...everyone wrote lyrics on this one but they're all very personal.

And that's it, i know it's not much of a review on their lyrics but it's just my opinion...hope it helps!

Burdcheese 06-11-2004 04:56 PM

Going back ages and against what I just said.

Good metaphor: Sweet Amber. about the addictive qualities of Alcohol (Beer).

motorbreath53: Dyers Eve is about James's parents and his anger towards them for holding him back and restricting him.

Squirrel 06-11-2004 05:13 PM

^ Exactly.

Summed up by the lyrics *I've outgrown that fĂșcking lullabye*

:chug: me likes that title :)

dead56k 06-11-2004 06:22 PM

lightning, puppets and justice delt with many things, from the end of the world ( fight fire with fire, blackened) to politics (title track to justice) and of course personal stuff like dyers eve. also, lightning was really focused on death. fade to black, trapped under ice, creeping death lol.

TallicaChic 06-11-2004 07:34 PM

i mean, st. anger is not my favorite album but I really like what all the songs stand for on that album..just because they are all so very personal and kind of like therapy for them in the tough times..
Edit - Destruct has now joined our group ( we need a cool name )

The ranks are boosted with, Emperor Destruct.
 lol thanks! :D

BTW, Kill 'Em All is probably the second best album of all (second only to And Justice For All).

Phantom Lord shaped the way Metallica would sound up 'till the black album, at which point they started to suck.

Also, I LOVE SQUIRREL OMG :amaze:

I love You 06-11-2004 08:02 PM

My favorite metaphor would be Master of puppets

i showed my sister Master of puppets and she thought it was about S M,(sado masochism)
hehehe she is such a slut

Which ironically was the pun behind the "S&M" album.. ;)

Squirrel loves Burdcheese :D

( in a non sexual way )

And the rest of our Metal Crusaders group.

Where the hell is Kreator ( the guy ) nowadays ?

Despite having finally heard the whole of KEA, I still don't really like it.
Phantom Lord is however a great song - best on the album.

Furthermore AJFA reigns supreme, though I still think they should remix it like Dave's doing to all the Megadeth albums.
