I'm listening to Jag Panzer. I like it.
They have quite a few complete songs on their website from several different albums. http://www.jagpanzer.com/html/downloads/audio.htm

JausmetalJ 01-25-2006 01:13 AM

Today I bought
SYL - Alien
HammerFall - Blood bound single \m/
Rhapsody - The Dark Secret.

CoF 01-25-2006 01:17 AM

Every now and then i feel like listening to some cheesy power metal like right now. Hammerfall.

JausmetalJ 01-25-2006 01:34 AM

I was kinda annoyed though, I get to JB, and Sonata Arctica - Silence isnt in, I look around and Helloween - Keeper.. Part II isnt in.

Then I find BOTH at Metal Mayhem, and couldn't buy either, same with the Dungeon DVD...

And so far, im not thoroghly enjoying this Strapping young lad album, its ok, but not great.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-25-2006 01:37 AM

The Dungeon DVD is great, I got it for xmas.

Ever thought of getting a name change, James?

JausmetalJ 01-25-2006 01:41 AM

Yer, its becoming JausmetalJ soon (same name as on dungeon/lord forums) :thumb:
I want the DVD so much.

Lord Abortion 01-25-2006 03:25 PM

I like D&W alot... it's the Dark tower lyrical themes that make me prefer the second album, though :)

A while ago, There was this special edition of Crimson King that a still regret of not picking it up. Not thats its rare here or anything but, I would have gotten a D&W cd.

I saw the S/T too once, but I was out of money to buy 2 albums.

Deth 01-25-2006 07:24 PM

Does anybody here have a power metal band that you find overwhelmingly mediocre? Hammerfall is that band for me. Everytime I listen to them I just sort of listen to it, having no thoughts one way or the other.

That's Iced Earth and D&W for me. I'd say Dragonforce but I can understand why everyone says their so great, I just personally have a strong dislike for the sound.

Deconstruction 01-25-2006 07:46 PM
I cant see how triplets can give a galloping effect...How ? Sorry, im just not understanding :p

And Demons and Wizard are definatly not meh for me.
Tap 2 fingers on something, 1 2 1 , repeat.

Stormrider 01-25-2006 07:56 PM
Tap 2 fingers on something, 1 2 1 , repeat.
But galloping is made up of 2 16ths and an 8th. Unless theres what Deth showed me in The Trooper.

Triplets are the same value notes therefore not causing a galloping effect.

If i do the 1 2 1 you said, then in that case the 1 is a 16th, the 2 is a 16th and the last one is an 8th. If the 1 2 1 are for example, 8th note triplets, then theres no galloping happening.

IheartSP 01-25-2006 08:05 PM

Galloping are any 2 note values followed by one note value double that note value

Deth 01-25-2006 08:16 PM

Or it can be the other way around. Raining Blood has the eigth note first.

DragonForce

Nice avatar, btw.

Yeah. Sorry, I just used the example with 8ths and 16ths. But yes your right.

To Deth: Many IE songs start off a galloping riff with an 8th note too. It leads to the same thing pretty much.

And then theres some galloping riffs which have an 8th note before every "gallop" Example: Dantes Inferno.

IheartSP 01-25-2006 08:35 PM

As long as it is 3 notes, 2 smaller ones equally a bigger one, in any order, it is galloping.

Stormrider 01-25-2006 08:40 PM

I <3 galloping.

I think I'll listen to Elements Part 1 later...

JausmetalJ 01-26-2006 05:21 AM

NP: Pantera - Mouth for war...

Not very powermetally :p

Riva 01-26-2006 05:28 AM

The best galloping I've heard on bass is the beginning to One Of These Days by Pink Floyd.

Stratovarius, Metal church, Jag Panzer...

JausmetalJ 01-26-2006 06:15 AM

The Jag is awesome man.

Deth 01-26-2006 10:57 AM

I agree with Ollie on Jag Panzer. There was nothing memorable about them.

Stormrider 01-26-2006 01:52 PM

The song Elements is realy growing on me since yesterday.

Triplets are just a group of three notes...
Or at least I thought. But ya 1 and 2 are 16 and the last 1 is an eighth.

Stormrider 01-26-2006 02:17 PM
Triplets are just a group of three notes...

For example 8th triplets will be 3 8th notes in 1 beat, instead of 2. So in speed, its halfway between an 8th note and a 16th.

Sorry if you knew this already.

Yeah, they have some good stuff, but nothing special. I would put Hammerfall in there, but they're growing on me.

i like the Jag Panzer i have, it's good, but i don't think i'd go out and buy it.

HammerFall are great, i'd love to see them live.

only 6 days 'til DragonForce (and Edguy! and Sabaton)

MetalOz 01-27-2006 09:30 AM

I have to disagree on Jag Panzer being unoriginal. But Hammerfall I would categorize as generic. I still like a lot of their stuff though.

Has anyone ever heard Axel Rudi Pell and what do you think? I have a very old Steeler album with him on it and it's good but the production quality is bad. I see that he has worked with some talented singers...

Lord Tim 01-27-2006 09:41 AM

I really enjoy Axel's stuff and he was great live at Bang Your Head but man... as a songwriter, he's awesome, but as a producer and (sadly) as a guitarist he's terrible. He's got amazing speed and chops galore but absolutely NO feel at all, which is sad 'cos it really takes away from his excellent songwriting.
