Well I'm not going to fullass(?) it either.

I'm going to go play some video games then probably pass out.

Night all.

Permanent Solution 03-11-2005 12:16 AM

Night.

The truth can be.

Never. The play stops at third base for me.

Kurtz 03-11-2005 12:25 AM

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I need sleep. Night.

Permanent Solution 03-11-2005 12:26 AM

Night.

ArcLite 03-11-2005 12:26 AM

So Vince, is this round of R&Mer the final one?

Permanent Solution 03-11-2005 12:29 AM

Yup...pretty clear leads and votes have died down, so I might close it before bed, we'll see.

ArcLite 03-11-2005 12:30 AM

Cool. So you're actually going to keep doing this every month?

Permanent Solution 03-11-2005 12:31 AM

For as long as I'm posting here...sooner or later I'm sure I'll leave, but hopefully I build up enough tradition it'll keep going :)

Cain 03-11-2005 12:33 AM

All right, guys, I've fixed the MIDI program so that my songs have all the clear notes, and so I was wondering if you guys would like to hear them. :D

Permanent Solution 03-11-2005 12:36 AM

If you upload it, I'll d/l it, but listen later.

Cain 03-11-2005 12:37 AM
If you upload it, I'll d/l it, but listen later.
Sweet. If you don't get to it tonight you can tell me tomorrow if we're on at the same time. Let's see...one moment.

They're Finale MIDIs, but as they're in Standard format they should play without difficulty in either Quicktime or Realplayer. Hope you enjoy it! For what it's worth, I was inspired by your work-in-progress that you posted a while back, called "The End" I believe, Vince. That was really good, so I thought, "Man, I've gotta post cool **** like that too and see what everyone thinks." So I hope you like it, once again.

Permanent Solution 03-11-2005 12:43 AM

Downloaded, if I get a chance to listen to them tonight I'll let you know.

Cain 03-11-2005 12:44 AM
Downloaded, if I get a chance to listen to them tonight I'll let you know.
Many thanks.

Did Chris get offline? I would like him to hear the songs as well.

ArcLite 03-11-2005 12:50 AM

I'm here...Let me see if I can get my songs up too.

Cain 03-11-2005 12:50 AM

Anyone home? This thread f-ing died again. Right when I was all excited about my new songs too!

Cain 03-11-2005 12:51 AM
I'm here...Let me see if I can get my songs up too.
Oh. Very cool! I was hoping you were here, 'cause I'd like your opinion on the songs I've got. They're MIDI, so they'll probably sound pretty fake, but it's all good.

And I would love to hear whatever you have to post as well, Chris. :thumb:

ArcLite 03-11-2005 12:57 AM

Just listened to them. Very cool. The first one had a very nice atmospheric feel to it. The second one, which I liked a bit better, was almost Opeth-like in parts. Well done sir, good writing.

Permanent Solution 03-11-2005 12:58 AM

I listened to the "empty4" one, and I liked all of it but the solo...not that I write good solos either, but I just wasn't a fan of it entirely. Otherwise sounded very cool. Nice job.

Cain 03-11-2005 01:00 AM

Thanks very much! I'm very proud of them. I just wish Ramsey were here also, because he's always posting good ****. But no matter: when I go home for vacation, I'll probably attempt to record them using the MIDI tracks for the keyboards, bass, and drums (as Quicktime has a good music synthesiser for those sorts of instruments) and then record real guitar and piano. I have a four-track, so there'll be a lot of bouncing, and then needless to say I'll have to convert those tapes to mp3s, but whatev.

ArcLite 03-11-2005 01:01 AM

I'm at work right now and don't have access to the files, however, these are from a post I made with them last night. Hopefully there are still some availible DL's. Let me know which, if any, still work.

My Iced Earth - 1776 cover, with added original solo at the end:

And here's a little Opeth/Norther/CoB Medley type cover I made a few months ago. Again with added solo at the end:

Hmm...what was wrong with the solo would you say? I mean, MIDI doesn't do the bent note thing very well, and I think it sounds a lot better with a real guitar, especially the fast parts. My roommate also said parts of it were too fast, and especially on MIDI with no differentiation between legato and picked I admit it sounded pretty ridiculous. Is that gist of your thoughts, or did you simply think they weren't good notes?

Thanks for the compliments. :)

It seemed to not fit...as to why it didn't, I can't say...but it could be any of the things you mentioned honestly. I just know I heard it and it was like "where did this come from?" I think a lot of it was the quick notes.

Cain 03-11-2005 01:09 AM

Downloaded them, Chris, will get to them in a sec.

Excellent, glad they're still working.

Agreed. The last, fastest part I've since changed, but I haven't transcribed it yet. The rest of it I've decided to keep, mostly because I honestly think it sounds better with a real guitar, especially the first really fast part, since I don't think I got the rhythmic phrasing right (writing solos with real music is tough). Hope you get the second song too: I think it's a bit better.
