Dont give it to to many people (even though like everyones going to see this post) just becasue i dont want it to get too much spac used up and have it close down like the Yes link JonG gave me

EDIT: forgot the link http://chrisgoesrock.blogspot.com/
Uh oh, those links were rar. files...does anyone know a free thing that converts rar. files? I remember I tried downloading one a while back and it didn't work, but the times change. PLEASE!

MidnightRider 02-09-2006 03:03 PM

Winrar does.

http://www.rarlab.com/

And thanks for the link man.

thickasabrick 02-09-2006 03:10 PM

Awesome! I hope everything works out. Thank both of you for the links! That site looked amazing!! I hate having to take the free/trial version of everything though. I'm an internet hobo.

edit - Sweet! I just realized I can now listen to Rar files, and I have like sooo many albums on my comp that I downloaded before I realized they were rars. Now I can listen to Blonde on Blonde on my computer!

PinkFreud 02-09-2006 03:12 PM

yeah. winrar's is like, permanent though. you never have to buy it, despite what it says.

its ok. i have trial versions of everything. cd burner, dvd player, games, etc.

1. Grateful Dead 322
2. Nick Drake 42
3. Toots and the Maytals 40
4. Mitch Hedberg 24
5. Jim Gaffigan 17
6. A Tribe Called Quest 10
7. Elvin Bishop 9
8. NRPS 7(ripped me off, I listened to Gypsy Cowboy, s/t and Panama Red)
9. Patti Smith 4
9. The Byrds 4

:)

thickasabrick 02-09-2006 04:11 PM

Yeah, WinZip always asks me to choose the free trial version or the pay version and every time it switches the buttons around so I accidently click the pay one.

That rapidshare sure isn't very rapid if you have the free version, I downloaded one album fairly quickly (listening to it now, Complex, it's awesome!) but this next album is taking like an hour.

And that's a lot of Grateful Dead, Jon.

JonG 02-09-2006 04:14 PM

Rapidshare sucks.

When it's free, you can't have more than 1 at a time. And you're limited to like 90 megs per hour or some bogus number. I rather use megaupload, even though it's slow.

Yes, that is a lot :P

I guess the Lord's message is that you're an obsessive Grateful Dead fan:p

Ha 322 plays. That's crazy.

rapidshare's easy to get around if you're not using university ethernet like i am.

you just change your cookies and go again. or use proxies. look em up!

How do you change your cookies? Proxies sound too complicated.

JonG 02-09-2006 04:50 PM

You can just change your IP, then delete cookies.

I'm far too lazy to run cmd prompt though :\

thickasabrick 02-09-2006 04:58 PM

Ah whatever, I don't need to download stuff that fast anyways. Have any of you downloaded any of those albums on the site? I'm interested in hearding your opinions on them...the guy who owned the site kept saying that it wasn't just for download, but for discussion..but I couldn't figure out where the discussion section was.

The album I downloaded was by Complex, it was self titled. I haven't had a chance to listen to all of it, because my brother is sleeping on the couch beside the computer and I'm cooking supper in the kitchen so I can't really turn it loud enough to hear. My brother is very grouchy. It's been a great album so far, the vocals are a little too bright and poppy for my liking but that's how a lot of psychedelia is. There was a great guitar solo on like the second or third song. Catchy songs too (at least some of them are)

edit - Josie sounds like a 12 bar blues with a reggae guitar rhythm/drum beat and an organ playing some pretty damn good lead. I'm surprised this album wasn't a huge hit.

JonG 02-09-2006 05:01 PM

I downloaded the Reaction s/t. It's not bad, but nothing special. I wanted to check out the Crosscut Saw album, but I had already downloaded Reaction.

I downloaded the Reaction album in about 5 minutes, not slow :)

I wondered how I listened to 322 Dead songs. That puzzles me. I didn't go to my dad's house for the weekend, so that's probably why..

:)

thickasabrick 02-09-2006 05:09 PM

Oh I figured out why it was slow the second time...a bunch of "premes" were downloading the same album I was so I had to wait in a long line or something. My third album only took a couple minutes. My second album didn't even end up downloading, after taking over an hour. It said it tried to do something that only the paying customers could do. That's bull****.

edit - And I notice there's a Billy Cox solo album on there...it sounds good. And the Arthur Lee one too.

Broken Arrow 02-09-2006 05:31 PM

Yeah I saw those both, I wanna hear Billy's album!

WelcomeToTheMachine 02-09-2006 05:50 PM

Oh yeah you guys, if you didnt notice, click on the Decmeber 2005, January 2006, ones and theres a crapload more albums

I downloaded A Ballad Of A Peaceful Man from Gravy Train, its really good except for the vocals on the first track.

Badmoon 02-09-2006 06:01 PM
I'm gonna have to thank Badmoon, because I really never got into the Grateful Dead until I came to this site and Badmoon was like one of the dominant forces in the CR thread yet he was really just a Grateful Dead noob. Haha.
Grateful Dead n00b?! For some time, I recall my knowledge on such subjects as the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia and most things relevant would go unquestioned.

JonG 02-09-2006 06:04 PM

'moon have you ever read Captain Trips?

/is reading now

I just learned Graveyard Shift on guitar. Excellent song.

Badmoon 02-09-2006 06:13 PM

Nah, I've looked for it at the Borders near me, but they did have it.

How is it?

Glitterati 02-09-2006 06:14 PM

1 The Arcade Fire 14
2 At the Drive-In 10
3 The Smashing Pumpkins 8
4 John Coltrane 6
4 The Smiths 6
4 Stevie Wonder 6
4 Circle Takes the Square 6
8 Primus 4
8 Lou Reed 4
8 Iron Maiden 4

You know who we barely ever talk about in here? Tom Waits and Iggy Pop.

magicbus 02-09-2006 06:16 PM

Have they done something together? Or both of them individually? Cause I love Iggy Pop (moreso the Stooges).

Badmoon 02-09-2006 06:24 PM

Tom Waits is cool.

He's on my list of 80's coolness/genius:

Tom Waits
Shane MacGowan
D. Boon
etc
Have they done something together? Or both of them individually? Cause I love Iggy Pop (moreso the Stooges).
Not that I know of, but that would be awesome.

I know Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry did a duet of Well Did You Evah* that was awesome, though.

*I think originally by Sinatra, or one of those fifties lounge singer guys.

It's great so far. I have to read a non-fiction book for a class, so I was lucky to snag it at my school library.

It goes through every band Jerry was in when younger, and much more. Good book :)

I'm now learning Grace on guitar. It's beautiful. I can't sing it and play it nearly as good :p

OMG I hated that song (no offense). It was on this Cole Porter tribute I found in my basement.

jpj 02-09-2006 07:29 PM

I'll try to upload Eat a Peach for whoever wanted it tomorrow, as wells as the Frog Brigade for Bus.

Right now I'm downloading American Blues-Is Here from that site, It looked cool, has anyone had a chance to listen to anymore stuff from there?

robo2448 02-09-2006 07:31 PM

The only thing I've downloaded from that site was the first half of the Complex album since Thick recommended it. It's really good. I think that psychedelic organ is quickly becoming my favorite instrument.

Rapidshare sucks. I have to wait 72 minutes to download the second half of this album now.

JonG 02-09-2006 07:57 PM

Crosscut Saw's album is pretty good.

Some good blues if you like blues..

I can't find that album that I just downloaded. It like...disappeared :amaze:

I'm freakin out man!

WelcomeToTheMachine 02-09-2006 08:54 PM

I downloaded Wailing Wall - Wailing Wall from there too, its very good.

I'm so happy i found this site.

Wow, theres some really rare stuff here, only 99 copies of the Complex album, that pretty awesome.

Sweet, I'll upload Try! either on Sunday or Monday, depends on when I get to try out my new cable connection. ;)

robo2448 02-09-2006 09:24 PM

^Thanks so much for that site. It's awesome. I've never heard of like 90% of the band's on there. The next album I'm going to download is the Moving Sidewalks which was Billy Gibbons band before ZZ Top.

All I've downloaded is the Complex album but I'm digging it a lot. I hope to get some more good stuff this weekend.

Np: Gram Parsons - Grievious Angel (the album)

Fantastic album; I feel I'm re-discovering its greatness.

So, for anyone who has them, GP orGrievious Angel?

JonG 02-10-2006 06:39 AM

I have GP/Grevious Angel double album. It's good.

:)

I really wish I had one of them^ :-/

Has anyone read "Chronicles Vol. 1" by Bob Dylan? Any good? I've heard mixed things so far. I just got it so I just wanted to hear some opinions before I start it.

I read it it was awesome although I'm was disapointed when he skipped from his first album right to New Morning to Oh Mercy.

I kinda wanted to hear about the mid 60's and his albums with the Band. Still very good writing.

If Rapidshare takes so long to get those albums why don't different people download different albums than send them out on YSI. I don't really mind though because it gives you time to listen to the album. Just a suggestion.

Last ngiht I listened to the Billy Cox album, pretty good. There is a pretty cool psychedelic version of "You Really Got Me". The sound quality isn't that great but I don't mind.
