Yeah, that was my biggest gripe too. Maybe all that listening to Trist, Make a Change... Kill Yourself and Acedia have made me listen to fuzzy, repetitive riffs in a different way somehow.

I listen to genres in cycles when I work. listened to Japanese hardcore techno & j-pop for two weeks, then '90s shoegaze & alternative for two weeks. next up is Norwegian black metal and uh probably something else. downloading Emperor, Thorns, Gorgoroth, Fimbulwinter, Ancient, and Ildjarn, and am gonna grab Burzum/Uruk-Hai, Mayhem, Carpathian Forest Darkthrone & Ulver from my HDD.

oh and Abruptum, which are Swedish. by Norwegian black metal I meant the whole black circle scene kids vibe.

I know these are all the "obvious" ones. but that's sort of the point. so ya, post bands that I've missed that don't really suck. only 1994 or older. only theistic satanist idiot bands whose band members burnt churches and so forth. I probably have tons on my HDD that I just can't think of ATM. gonna scout shit out for tomorrow.

No, I didn't mean you should be listening to all kinds of bm when you have a specific vibe in mind, but idk who burned churches and who didn't because I don't care about that stuff, but there are plenty of great bands, even past the year 2000, that have that production and atmosphere of those second wave Norwegian bands.
