Who actually cares about MuchMusic?

Fire Away 10-11-2005 12:17 AM
MuchMusic are a bunch of fags...Blink is awesome. But It pissed me off, because they were all like "Why don't you try and be a real punk band, not some lame poser pop-punk band.."
Pop Punk > Punk

Phew, 9th, just hanging in there. I was reading an old diary of mine the other day and I came across the day of the Blink concert I went to last year. I can't believe how long ago it was!

And then I thought I will probably never get to see them again, unless they turn into Kiss and do like 500 Farewell shows or something in about 20 years...when we'll all be in our late 30's/early 40's :upset:

Feel the wrath of being banned? Unless of course you have a decent reason?

Banned for telling you that you're a complete idiot if you think that Blink182 and Green Day started pop-punk?

Ever heard of the Ramones, Adicts, Descendents?

 Obviously some punk bands such as the Ramones started pop-punk. But if you had of read this...
agreed.. well for our generation
...Then it may make more sense. You also don't have to tell me I'm a complete idiot, I already know that and don't need your help to figure it out. :thumb:

I read it.

Pop-punk bands from the previous couple of decades spawned pop-punk that we listen to today, e.g. nofx, bouncing souls, bigwig, lagwagon and so on

the_uber_penguin 10-11-2005 06:34 AM
blink wasn't punk to begin with...punk isn't really their style anyways.
I don't know about that.

If you look at what punk bands did musically (bass-snare, or bassbass-snare drum lines, power chords, palm mutes, the way they used the bass guitar, etc...) Blink 182 fit that perfectly up until Travis came in.

Compare Carousel or Dick Lips to punk from 1977 (Still Little Fingers, Cockey Rejects, etc...) and you'll see what I mean.

Travis took what are quite boring drum lines and made them his own and made them much more interesting.

I think Blink 182 were punk to start with, they just veered away from it when Travis joined because he gave them the scope to be able to and not just sound like a punk band trying to play pop. He allowed them to sound like a unique band, which is why they are so loved by many.

10571z 10-11-2005 06:55 AM

you can discuss if blink 182 is punk or not punk all day ....

what i find is wierd is
according to some people pop punk mean popular punk so in there term ur only pop punk once u release a album....or somthing

and other people say pop punk is just more happy and more about girls

i agree with the latter

Drop The Baby 10-11-2005 07:12 AM

pop-punk is not 'popular-punk', it is defined by the other chararterictics you mentioned- girl themes etc. Other musical features include stuff like more hooky guitar lines and melodic singing.

It is not just defined musically though, other things such as an independant ethos define a pop-punk band.

Well.........that statement is kind of bias. blink and GD didn't start pop-punk they kind of had an influence on the all ready evolved pop punk.

they had a massive influence on all the modern pop-rock bands, there's a big difference between that and pop-punk bands

I agree with you on that, pop-punk ISN'T popular punk. Popular Punk seems to be a term that contradicts itself, therefor it wouldn't make sense for it to be called that.

For next time can you do me a favour? Don't just come into the thread and tell me what I said was total bull****. Just tell me your opinion, you don't need to be an *** about it.

I wasn't being an as's, i was pointing out that you were very clearly wrong. Being an a'ss is trying to complain and get someone banned because you felt embarrassed.

Now i cannot be f'ucked to continue this any further cos i don't want to spam up your blink thread and i can't be bothered with it/you.

If you think Blink and Green Day started pop-punk, then you are indeed a complete idiot.

Don't saying you do, I don't know, but if you did, you would be an idiot. And this goes to everyone.

16 Nipples 10-11-2005 02:55 PM

They didnt start it, they brought it to the attention of the newer generations and popularised it.
