Yea I think wish you were here is a great album stoned or not....
I know like its wicked good. I like Shine On You Crazy Dimond parts 6-8 (I think those are the right numbers) more then 1-5, It just seems to appeal to me more.

Kingofdudes 04-20-2005 08:45 PM

Meh work...

Im gonna get some gilmour tracks up for you guys some time in the future, and perhaps some songs from the animals tour.

pigonthewing82 04-20-2005 08:59 PM
Really? I find 1-5 more powerful than 6-8.
I like the instrumentals better, and eh they lyrics in some ways are better in 1-5, but I just get more emotion out of 6-8.

pigonthewing82 04-20-2005 09:35 PM
I love the sax in 1-5.
Yeah that is what is missing from 6-8, I really concider the whole thing as one song though. The only reason why it was broken up is because Waters likes to have his albums come round full circle in the end, like Pig on the Wing being two songs instead of the original one.

Kingofdudes 04-20-2005 09:39 PM

Gilmour adds a sax solo to 6-9 on his DVD. From what I recall it was pretty good(meh it has been a while since I have seen it)
Gilmour adds a sax solo to 6-9 on his DVD. From what I recall it was pretty good(meh it has been a while since I have seen it)
Didn't he also do it acustic (sp?)

Kingofdudes 04-20-2005 09:47 PM
That DVD is so expensive. :(
I got it cheap as hell off of amazon.
Didn't he also do it acustic (sp?)
The concert is mostly unplugged, but a few things arent(such as a few guitar solos, and the slide work on 6-8).

He does 1-5 on acoustic, but he also includes the sax solo.

Hmm I really need to watch the DVD again.

Kingofdudes 04-20-2005 09:49 PM

I think around $13.

pigonthewing82 04-20-2005 09:53 PM

I love Shine On's lyrics, they are very haunting, only out done by that of Jugband Blues in my opinion.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-20-2005 09:59 PM

Man...I could seriously listened to SOYCD all day long. It is just such a good song. Everything about it is gold. There is a nice emotional section in the beggining, then it shifts to kind of eerie and foreboding almost. I love it. One day I thought about learning the first solo of the song, and then I realized that the solo is just pure emotion. There is no way I could pull that off. :p

Which part? Or are you talking about one of the live versions? :)

I learned that first riff, but when it comes to the solo, I try and wing it, but it never sounds any good.

appreciate_it 04-21-2005 04:16 AM

i just read...

DSOTM stayed in the UKtop 100 for 11 years! thats ****in insane. imagine in 2016 and todays album will still be in the top 100. thats incredible... i was reading a bio and they always get it wrong..
(quotes)
Rick Wright Guitar
Syd Barret Guitar and vocals...
Roger Waters, Bass.

argh get pissed off with kids making up articles...

Oh quickly, the wall DVD is based on Waters right?
i heard someone say it was about syd... i know they both had troubled childhoods with the fathers dying at war... its quite moving when the lil pink trys to hang around with that other dad at the playground... sucha good DVD

rippa32 04-21-2005 04:29 AM

I havnt seen the movie or heard the album but I think it does have a bit of reference to Syd.

Riva 04-21-2005 04:55 AM

The Wall is a combination of Syd and Roger. It is basically 95% Roger's personal feelings, and 5% Roger's view of Syd.

bennyl 04-21-2005 11:23 AM
Yeah, that's about right. A lot of people overstate Syd's influence on the album, and on the character of Pink. Personally I think that Wish You Were Here was really necessary for the band to actually get Syd out of their system as it were, as the whole album is about him in one way or another, but The Wall is definitely Waters's album, both conceptually and personally. Especially with the recurrent themes about school and war, it really is him talking. I only found out the other day though that on Nobody Home (possibly my favourite song on the album) the reference to elastic bands keeping shoes on actually comes directly from Syd, who did that. Nobody Home really is such a great piece of music though. The first 6 songs on Disc 2 of The Wall are possibly my favourite suite of music ever written, and that may be the best bit.
In the film, the shot where yousee Bob Geldof (Pink)sitting in a chair with a cigarette burning down between his fingers comes directly from syd. Same with the shaving. but it is prodominately Roger. When he first showed the rest of the band his concept, Rick later said something along the linesof, "he was writing about his mother and his school and the war again..."

magicbus 04-21-2005 01:22 PM

I can play SOYCD 1-5.

FatOldSolo 04-21-2005 08:04 PM

I don't know the proper etiquette here, but I would just like to announce my presence. I hope to post a lot in the future. I'm pretty much a neophyte fan, but I genuinely love Pink Floyd's music. Currently, im completely obsessed with Atom Heart Mother. I really enjoy the combination of full brass sections with acoustic ballads. I think Rick Wright really shines on that album. As you can tell from my name, I particularly enjoy Fat Old Sun.

Eh I have to be in the right mood for it. Except for If and Fat Old Sun, those are awsome no matter what mood I'm in.

word word word. It is nice to see someone new that doesnt rave about DSotM/The Wizard of Oz and DSotM synch up.

Sorry guys, I still cant get the songs up :-/
The first 6 songs on Disc 2 of The Wall are possibly my favourite suite of music ever written, and that may be the best bit.
I love the first two(Is There Anybody Out There has become the high point of the album for me), then I love the last 6 songs on disc 2. The beginning-middle part doesn't do much for me.

lunch998 04-21-2005 08:11 PM
I can play SOYCD 1-5.
That's awesome.

SOYCD 6-9 still pwns though. When Gilmour hits those high notes in the guitar solo I almost cream my pants.

pigonthewing82 04-21-2005 08:13 PM

Yeah, I don't really know whitch disk I like better, I just try to think of the album as a whole more. I think In The Flesh is an awsome opener though.

I really like the beginning of 1, but the ending I find lame. Except for ABItW Pt.3.

Disc 2>1. Two is bound to be better. One is all about bad things happening to him, basically, which get him to set up the wall. While emotional, I find these songs aren't generally as good as the tracks on the second disc. On disc two there is so much more mood and feeling to me, you get that great feeling of the anger, lonliness, and desperation that Waters was trying to convey.

Yeah, disk one does drop off after Mother. I do like disk two better, I just identify with In the Flesh-Mother much more then the songs on the second disk.

lunch998 04-21-2005 08:35 PM

Goodbye Blue Sky, Young Lust, and ABItW Pt. 3 are all solid. Another Brick in the Wall 3 is one of my favorite songs from the album.
Goodbye Blue Sky, Young Lust, and ABItW Pt. 3 are all solid. Another Brick in the Wall 3 is one of my favorite songs from the album.
Eh Young Lust is great but it never really did much for me, Goodbye Blue Sky is good too, Another Brick in the Wall 3 is meh, I like its energy, but thats about it. Don't Leave me Now is the down point of the disk, One of myh Turns is ok though.

lunch998 04-21-2005 09:33 PM

Another Brick In the Wall pt. 3 is very important for the plot. Musically it's basically worthless by itself. Conceptually, it's amazing.

I just reviewed The Wall for another site, but it's lame compared to Med's review. I tried to do an abridged version, so as it wouldn't take me 3+ hours to do.

Riva 04-21-2005 10:35 PM

One of My Turns is great. However, my favourite song from disc 1 has to be Goodbye Blue Sky. I defy you to find such a short, yet musically and conceptually rich song.
