RouteOne 05-18-2007 09:55 PM

Oh wow, I can't even remember 8th grade.

Txus 05-18-2007 09:57 PM

Me neither.

New Pig Destroyer is ****ing amazing, props for that...they never let me down.

Eliminator 05-18-2007 09:57 PM

wotan more like gag reflex

AA-12 05-18-2007 09:58 PM

I'll have none of this!

RouteOne 05-18-2007 09:59 PM

Oh deary me!

Invicta_Veritas 05-18-2007 10:08 PM

K, I've got a serious question..... (grind NOOB here)...

I got Smear Campaign and The Code Is Red..... (Napalm Death) and thought like hell it was just death metal...really obnoxious death metal. then I come in here and find out it's Grind. So, am I not correct in assuming that most grind is fairly interchangeable with some forms of death and/or black metal? I write predominantly melodic death/blackened death material, but I'm writing some songs right now that fit the whole "scream obnoxiously for 2 minutes then stop" generalization that is made of grind, but it seems fairly interchangeable with my other stuff (as in it fits if I throw one of them in every once in a while).

Am I making any sense? If so, please enlighten me. If not, enlighten me more.

AA-12 05-18-2007 10:10 PM

Napalm Death is definitely Grind, but a ton of DM influence too.

By the way, awesome buys. The Code... is one of my favorite albums of all time.

LifeInABox 05-18-2007 10:10 PM

meh, I see grind as a paralell to Death Metal, but not interchangeable. I know some diehard p***y Grind fans who won't touch death metal, and vise versa. Grind doesn't rely as much on the technical aspect as the speed and chaos aspect.

Tyler 05-18-2007 10:11 PM

Grind can mix with Death Metal but it's more rooted in punk than anything, as far as I know. I'm really a noob too but I fake my way. And hottie, honestly, do you even understand the word parallel? You keep throwing it around.

Invicta_Veritas 05-18-2007 10:12 PM

So grind in all technicality is the death metal version of punk. Makes sense.

AA-12 05-18-2007 10:13 PM

Pretty close.

Invicta_Veritas 05-18-2007 10:15 PM

Awesome. So I wasn't completely insane. That's good.

Also explains why I can get away with writing the occasional grind-ish song.

RouteOne 05-18-2007 10:19 PM

Then there is crust.

AA-12 05-18-2007 10:21 PM

Crust <3

Invicta_Veritas 05-18-2007 10:22 PM

Huh?

Apocalyptic Raids 05-18-2007 11:19 PM

Crust Punk is like the middle man between Hardcore and Grind, I think. Justin (RetiredAt21) would be the one to ask, he is into all this stuff.

Anyway Behemoth, if you're still kind of wondering where Punk fits in with Grind then get some older stuff like early Napalm Death and Repulsion. It's the best kind of Grind.

Txus 05-18-2007 11:23 PM

And also Terrorizer.

AA-12 05-18-2007 11:23 PM

It's like the black metal of grind and hardcore.

Apocalyptic Raids 05-19-2007 01:38 AM

What is? Crust?

AA-12 05-19-2007 01:39 AM

Yeah

Apocalyptic Raids 05-19-2007 01:45 AM

How so? I'm interested, I don't really listen to Crust. Unless Siege count.

AA-12 05-19-2007 02:02 AM

It just sounds like if a straight forward BM band wanted to make a grind band. That's what i'm always reminded of, heh.

RetiredAt21 05-19-2007 07:27 AM
What is? Crust?
Crust is awesome. You have the bands that sound like traditional crust (bands like Caustic Christ and Electro Hippies) and then you have that really heavy crust (bands like His Hero Is Gone and Ekkaia). Usually, crust is just really political hardcore.

RetiredAt21 05-19-2007 07:27 AM
How so? I'm interested, I don't really listen to Crust. Unless Siege count.
Siege are more like PV than crust, I say. Or just hardcore.

Txus 05-19-2007 09:00 AM

His Hero Is Gone are amazing! \m/

LifeInABox 05-19-2007 09:47 AM

Crust is more abrasive than even grind imo.
And hottie, honestly, do you even understand the word parallel? You keep throwing it around.
I used it twice.

RetiredAt21 05-19-2007 09:55 AM

Crust can be more abrasive, but not usually. Not to me, anyways.

RetiredAt21 05-19-2007 09:56 AM
His Hero Is Gone are amazing! \m/
Definitely. What's your favorite album? Mine is 15 Counts Of Arson. HEAVY AS FUCK.

Txus 05-19-2007 10:32 AM

The Plot Sickens is the only album I have....and it's ****ing ace!

RetiredAt21 05-19-2007 10:39 AM

That's a good one, too. I highly recommend you get 15 Counts Of Arson. It's great.

Txus 05-19-2007 10:44 AM

Aight, I will definitely look for it :)

RetiredAt21 05-19-2007 10:47 AM

Ever heard of Damad? They are sort of His Hero Is Gone-ish.

Txus 05-19-2007 10:49 AM

No, I'm a Crust n00b :(

I'll add them to the list of bands I shoud check out which is getting pretty big.

omgwtfboogie 05-19-2007 04:45 PM

I Feel So Loathsome Down Inside

RouteOne 05-19-2007 04:52 PM

Yeah, His hero is gone is a great example of crust.

Invicta_Veritas 05-19-2007 09:25 PM

Every time you guys mention this so-called subgenre "crust", I lawl, thinking of apple pie.

BTW, The Code is Red...Long Live the Code is one of the most beautiful pieces of work ever, fyi. Just thought I'd throw that in.

AA-12 05-19-2007 09:26 PM

Indeed. Barney's vocals are inhuman.

Invicta_Veritas 05-19-2007 09:26 PM

Otherworldly.

And the music knocks teeth in.
