Bad Blood 06-28-2006 10:14 AM

you can't learn technique by watching someone play, unless they're in front of you and you can see their thumb etc

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 10:17 AM

I didn't necesarily learn it from watching, but I did pick up on a few things. I have my own technique layed down, but when I play people say I look like Les Claypool.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 10:18 AM

okay I jsut googled it and it says the same thing countless times. he imitated billie joe.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 10:19 AM

We aren't doubting he did. We're questioning why someone would copy Billie Joe to learn how to play guitar. Or at least I am. :p

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 10:21 AM

no i wasn't sure eithier because wikipedia is written by regular people who could have teh wrong sources.

his guitar isn't nothing complicted.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 10:29 AM

His guitar playing isn't anything if you ask me.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 10:48 AM

no its okay! im thinking that all his stuff is easy to play, which is good for me cos I can play it w/ out much difficulty.

Bad Blood 06-28-2006 10:51 AM

If you want to learn guitar, why play Green Day songs?

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 10:53 AM

He wants to learn to become teh mainstream.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 11:00 AM

she doesn't want to learn to become mainstream. she likes teh music. I would still like them if they weren't ms, anyway.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 11:01 AM

They really need gender labels on these forums. X-|

Bad Blood 06-28-2006 11:01 AM

i tihnk most people preferred them when they weren't mainstream. : /

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 11:03 AM

I know I sure did. Even their mainstream/sellout hits I enjoy, except for BOBD, that song just plain-out sucks, hard.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 11:04 AM

yeh I really don't give a **** if the band's mainstream or not, some people are just determined to label all mainstream as being bad.

I don't have any of thioer earlier ones, i just have from dookie on.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 11:11 AM

I haven't labeled Green Day as a bad band. I have ratted on MCR because I cannot stand their sound, but that's all the harm I've done. :p

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 11:15 AM

no not specifically you just people.

i can't figure out what bobd stands for...?

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 11:16 AM

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 11:23 AM

ohhh. yes I don't particularly like the singles they put out besides holiday. can you believe on the radio they still occasionally play american idiot?

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 12:31 PM

Man that song blows even harder. xP Holiday is a good song though.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 12:54 PM

what pisses me off is how much they edit out. like fag. in england thats like a ciggarette or something.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 12:57 PM

In lots of songs they censor words like "kill" or "die" or "gun" even.

Bad Blood 06-28-2006 01:01 PM

lol yeah, it's kind of pathetic.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:02 PM

thats pretty dictating. my radio station is pretty good about not doing that. you know crazy bitch by buckcherry? its like"hey your a crazy bitch but you (censor) so good..." and It's pretty awesome taht they don't censor bitch.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 01:03 PM

Soon they won't even censor f'uck.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:06 PM

that'd be the day.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 01:10 PM

Well it's public in movies and on CDs, I don't think it'll be too long. It's such a commonly used word nowadays.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:20 PM

yeh even little childern are running around screaming "**** you mom I don't want to."

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 01:25 PM

That was my 'lil bro's first word. Haha.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:31 PM

my first word was dog, but not as in the animal, as in the food.
i know this little first grader who knows every swear word thats still used cause her dad teaches her them. on purpose. its like teaching a parrot.

You eat dog in new york? Eww.

I saw a video on MTV the other day; The Electric Six - Gay Bar. The sensored the words "Let's Start A Nuclear War". Censorship on TV today is sickening.
yeh even little childern are running around screaming "**** you mom I don't want to."
My mom learned about the F word when she was in kindergarten and saw it written in a bathroom. She then asked her parents at dinner that night what it meant and my grandma and grandpa were shocked. :p

As to the topic of the thread. I love early Green Day (Dookie & Nimrod, don't like pre-Dookie that much) and American Idiot has grown on me a lot now as well. Bullet In A Bible is sweet stuff too.

pgm 06-28-2006 09:26 PM
His guitar playing isn't anything if you ask me.
Billie Joe's? No, it really isn't. It's solid. He knows everything a punk player should know. But he doesn't go beyond that. I was talking to this guy who summed it up perfectly, though. This guy is a shredder, rips of Yingwie, etc. He said that if all you want to do is play 3 chords and mess around, then Green Day is fine.

Personally, though, I don't like shredding, Vai, Santrini, Yingwie. It all ends up sounding like technical exercises played really fast. A band like Green Day needs to focus on the song writing because they have less skill instrumentally to work with. I do like Buckethead, however, so shredding can be kind of fun.

Fish 06-28-2006 10:55 PM

well you cant really say vai and satch are shredders. Like there music once in a while has shred yes, but not as much as pretucci or as you mentioned, buckethead.

yourstruly 06-29-2006 03:34 AM
You eat dog in new york? Eww.
I :lol:d at this.

nag*with*a*gun 06-29-2006 09:09 AM

yeh sure we eat dog and we worship cats. and everybody has a fish fetish.

^hah hah nice, teacup.

Yeah, 'War' and 'Nuclear War' got censored with what sounded like a whipping noise playing over those words'. Thats so dumb although I heard it was because the song was released around the time of the Iraq invasion so was censored to prevent any possible complaints

Ross 06-30-2006 04:19 AM

I know but seriously... if GreenPeace released a song with the lyrics "NO MORE NUCLEAR WAR" surely they'd have to censor that out of principle? If they didn't they'd be shooting themselves in the foot by censoring some songs and not others!

yourstruly 06-30-2006 04:32 AM

Alot of shit like that goes on in the world, but it's never really gotten in the way of anything I've done.

I watched a live clip of Basket Case from reading festival, they have some random guy playing guitar, he plays badly but it's a pretty cool thing to do stuff like that.

A random guy from the audience? That's pretty cool.

I bought Kerplunk a couple of days ago. (I had it downloaded, but I wanted to buy it). The letter from the fan is hilarious.

yourstruly 07-03-2006 09:43 PM

Yeah something like that. Green Day are the only band i've seen do something that before.

What does the letter say?
