That doesn't change that fact that Gilmour>Barrett.
No, the fact that Barrett's music is way more creative an interesting does. |
Anyone can be that creative with LSD helping them:rolleyes:
/counter troll |
The bolded statements are what I was thinking when I first read that "Gilmour>Barrett=mainstream" theory.
Do you really think my name would be Led-Zeppelin if I was just trying to be different?
Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Mudmen, Any Colour You Like, etc. were hardly "commercial".
I'd call them commercial compared to Pow R. Toc H.
Anyone can be that creative with LSD helping them:rolleyes: /counter troll
At least Barrett wasn't some straight-edge pussy afraid to push his mind to its limits. /counter-counter-troll |
Do you really think my name would be Led-Zeppelin if I was just trying to be different?
No, but would you have a 13th Floor Elevators avatar if you weren't trying to be different?
I'd call them commercial compared to Pow R. Toc H.
Well when Pow R. Toc H. is mostly noise, anything compared to that seems commercial.
At least Barrett wasn't some straight-edge pussy afraid to push his mind to its limits. /counter-counter-troll
So the fact that Gilmour (or anyone else) chose not to do LSD makes him a straight edge pussy? Also bringing into consideration that Gilmour smoked pot, thus striking your straight edge comment. |
I like the mad keyboard section in Pow R. Toc H..
I also like the 13th Floor Elevators. I'm not getting into the arguement but Gilmour is going to get over %90 of the votes, including mine. np-Syd Barret-If It;s in You |
No, the fact that Barrett's music is way more creative an interesting does.
You're trying to start a bad argument seemingly just for the sake of arguing. I guess you were successful. You still remain an idiot, however. I don't care if you prefer Barrett to Gilmour, but to say that Gilmour couldn't push his mind "to the limits" or that everyone who recognizes Gilmour's vastly superior guitar ability over Syd Barrett is a "mainstream whore" is just moronic. |
No, but would you have a 13th Floor Elevators avatar if you weren't trying to be different?
I like the 13th Floor Elevators. And they're not that different.
Well when Pow R. Toc H. is mostly noise, anything compared to that seems commercial.
It's not mostly noise. It's mainly just keyboard and bass.
So the fact that Gilmour (or anyone else) chose not to do LSD makes him a straight edge pussy? Also bringing into consideration that Gilmour smoked pot, thus striking your straight edge comment.
I was making an unserious post as a retort to another unserious post. |
You're trying to start a bad argument seemingly just for the sake of arguing. I guess you were successful. You still remain an idiot, however.
Good job dodging my point! :thumb:
I don't care if you prefer Barrett to Gilmour, but to say that Gilmour couldn't push his mind "to the limits" or that everyone who recognizes Gilmour's vastly superior guitar ability over Syd Barrett is a "mainstream whore" is just moronic.
Well, I wasn't totally serious about my mainstream whore comment. I was really just looking for a way to exaggerate my love of Barrett. I didn't really mean to insult anybody who likes Gilmour. Wanna hug? But I still think Barrett was way better. |
I wish my rep button worked.......but it's mostly for Lunch, being incredibly hypocritical and Led Zeppelin for making Syd look bad and attempting to shun an amazing guitarist.
The fact does remain that: When it comes to guitar: Gilmour > Syd I like Syd's playing but he can't touch Gilmour. When it comes to everything else though.........well I just won't get into that...... /goes back to retirement |
@Led Zeppelin what is more creative, a good structured song of 26 minutes or some strange songs of 4 min ;)
|
I wish my rep button worked.......but it's mostly for Lunch, being incredibly hypocritical and Led Zeppelin for making Syd look bad and attempting to shun an amazing guitarist.
I'll let you know when it works again so you can neg me, don't worry. |
@Led Zeppelin what is more creative, a good structured song of 26 minutes or some strange songs of 4 min ;)
Thats a stupid question, It dosen't matter how long a song is to determine how creative somebody is. |
Thats a stupid question, It dosen't matter how long a song is to determine how creative somebody is.
Well if you make a song of 26min that doesn't bore people you have to be creative |
Well if you make a song of 26min that doesn't bore people you have to be creative
Extremely I'm struggling with this right now...I wrote this cool mystical short story and I created this great tune to go with it...the problem is that the song is like 15 minutes and in that time you can read the story twice. And everyone says that the story sucks. But still it really shouldn't matter how long a song is |

When it comes to everything else though.........well I just won't get into that...... /goes back to retirement
It's true. And I know Schyma is a Syd fan, and so am I. But it's just true. I obviously have mad respect for Syd as a guitarist, and more so as a songwriter, but Gilmour is just better at guitar. He has an untouchable sound and can show so much emotion through his playing. |
No, the fact that Barrett's music is way more creative an interesting does.
By n stretch of the imagination is Barrett's guitar playing incredibly creative. As a song writer i have a deep respect for syd but most of his guitar work is just straight time chords and psychadelic noise. |
I love that the guy named Led-Zeppelin is bitching about mainstream artists.
Isn't it amazing how every single person that prefers a certain musician to another one can be generalized into a random category? Or maybe it's possible that people just don't like Syd's music, or prefer Gilmour's music. What a concept! |
I love Floyd bootlegs. I wish I had some bootleg videos though, so I can see how they do it. Some of these pre-release DSOTM shows are awesome.
Also, I've started jamming with Any Colour You Like, which is really opening new areas to my playing. |
Hey MX,
I'm back in Halifax, Nova Scotia and I'm off to see Aussie Floyd! I've heard nothing but good things about them and I can't wait! |
They're a great band, you'll love it.
So, I just found out that La Vallee, the movie that Obscured By Clouds is the soundtrack for, was filmed in Papua New Guinea, a country very close to my part of Australia. Looks like an amusing movie also, though I bet it's very indie and cult. |
What's it about? I know nothing of it.
Not quite Pink Floyd related, but I've taken to jamming along with Neil Young tracks lately. Particularly the mellow acoustic stuff, like Heart of Gold and Harvest Moon. Lots of fun. |
Yea Neil!
La Vallee, I used to know whta it was about. I think there is a tribe of natives in it, also people that travel around in a jeep. |
Sounds like The Gods Must Be Crazy!
|
Sounds like The Gods Must Be Crazy!
 that movie's great. |
Hell yes! I love that movie.
|
La Vallee is about some lady and this guy, apparently, and they track through th e rainforests of PNG searching for a lost valley, described only as Obscured By Clouds on an old map, revered by the natives.
Along the way they have adventures aplenty, and learn something about the wild nature of every man and woman. |
I bought Wish you were here today. I can't believe it has taken me this long to get a real copy :upset:.
|
That's the only cd I've ever bought two copies of. (My first one got scratched up)

Great Album. You listened to it yet? Also, anyone know any bands similar to Floyd, other than King Crimson and Genesis? |
Great Album. You listened to it yet?
Also, anyone know any bands similar to Floyd, other than King Crimson and Genesis?
I've heard one Caravan album (In the Land of the Grey and Pink) and they are somewhat similar to Floyd. I really want more Caravan material, they are pretty good. |
That's why i never take heed of music journalism.
I don't like yes.
It's actually a website where people just vote. It's not music journalism of any sort. But, yeah, I'm not too impressed with Yes either. |
