I dig em.
I can't stand them, i find Davey Havock's vocals whiny and annoying.
I can't stand you.
But you did revive my favorite thread, so thanks I guess. |
I've never really liked them. Only Static Age and to an extent... and I like several of their other songs but that's all, American Psycho for example.
I also liked Famous Monsters. |
I can't stand them, i find Davey Havock's vocals whiny and annoying.
who's more whiney, the whiney singer, or the whiney jerkoff on the internet who whines about it? |
I don't consider Davey's vocals whiny.
I like Davey's vocals. It's a clearly recognizable style and his singing is good.
Sorry people, i just don't like them. I suppose everyone's entitled to their own opinion even if you think it's wrong or right.

I think your other post was pretty correct. Well the correct thing to say would be polite. |
I like Davey's vocals. It's a clearly recognizable style and his singing is good.
yeah, i love his singing |
i think as his voice is so distinctive, this makes him a good singer. He is not the same as all other punk singers around. Unique = good
I do like Daveys vocals. More now than back during "Answer that...", but they are pretty distinctive, and he can hold notes well, and hit high ones well too.
i think they used to be a bit whiney, now it doesnt bother me so much
I went and saw them on thier "Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes" tour in a local club here in Houston and it was freakin great. After that they became my favorite band for quite some time(hence the tattoo). AFI was great all the way up until after "The Art OF Drowning". After that I kind of slowly but surely stop listening to them. It just seemed like he was trying to hard to be emo. :(
You'd think you'd have run out of things to talk about by now...
I dont really like them. they are really winey and kind of depresseing but i havent hear all of there stuff
why does no one understand what emo is? why? these people keep talkin, it's like god is shitting in my ears, 24-7.
the best fooking punk band ever
Im getting really tired of people putting bands down just because they make smart business decisions!
Would you rather they stay underground so only a handful of people can hear them? The truth is, despite what people say, this is these peoples JOBS! This is how they make a living and earn money to feed their families. Granted, you can be "in it just for the music" but c'mon! They signed to Dreamworks to 1) Get out to a wider audience, nothing wrong with that, and 2) TO EARN SOME MONEY! People need money to live. If you dont think so, go live under a bridge and eat out of the garbage. A band gets successful, wants to spread their fan base, wants to make smart decisions, they get labelled as sell outs by geeks who dont want anyone to enjoy a band but themselves. It happened to Green Day after American...., happened to Alkaline Trio, its now happened to AFI The fact is, AFI are a successful band, and my opinion is, your jealous. And, fyi, theres only about 2 songs on the whole of the Sing The Sorrow album, their major label debut, that would get onto MTV. Now go die. Rant over.
Thank you finally someone who understands!!! i mean ya some bands may have "soldout" but hey what about all the bands in the 80's they had music videos... did they sellout? and ya greenday "soldout" i dont care too much for there new album but if you had a chance to make a major comeback like they did with all the publisity they got from it i wouldnt hesitate to do the same. they proabably made 5mil easily off that album and such. AFI is still good no matter what old and new are both good but not as equal... Amen |

I recommend you listen to there older stuff. A lot of funny/cool songs. |

Dude, Emo is short for emotional and thats exactly what I meant. |
Emo stands for emotional hardcore, not just emotional.
I love it when people don't know their history.
Dude, Emo is short for emotional and thats exactly what I meant.
Emo and emotional lyrics are two different things. Rap's pretty much the only unemotional music (if it's music). You can't have music without emotion. Music IS emotion put into sounds. Emo means "emotive hardcore." That'd be stuff like Rites of Spring, Embrace, or Fugazi. |

There is plenty of rap with emotion, just none of it is popular. |
well actually not all music has emotion. if you look at songs like "loose nut" from black flag, or "see her pee" by nofx you dont find much emotion. thats what i think anyway.
There is emotion put into all songs, whether it be sillyness or happiness, or sad. Every song has emotion, whether it was put there by the aritsts, or some behind the scenese songwriter.

you're right. I should have specified "mainstream rap" and used the word "most" because there are a few good rap songs... |
yeah thats true. i guess i was just thinking "not every song is emotional." |
Hey um, can anybody give me a link for some rare Afi tracks?
Thatd be cool, thanks. |
There is plenty of rap with emotion, just none of it is popular.
which makes me sad. or should i say, it makes me emo. ;)
Hey um, can anybody give me a link for some rare Afi tracks? Thatd be cool, thanks.
shizzy and maco have like, ever rare afi song ever. they should be able to hook you up somehow or another. |
Wow you reply fast, but uh, I saw their links but they expired or something
I'm quite fond of that secret song on i think answer that and stay fashionable, though i could be wrong. It's called man in a suitcase, and it's got a ska guitar riff, which sounds extremely different for afi.
man in a suitcase, it's by the police, unless i'm remembering that wrong.
Man in a Suitcase is a cover? I didn't know that.
Yep. It's a Police cover.
Wow, I had no idea.
