obviously. i bought Ascendancy about a month ago, what an amazing album, should i get their first album as well?
I prefer listening to Ember to Inferno over Ascendancy. There is something about Ascendancy that rubs me the wrong way.

I like both for their own reasons, though I definately prefer ascendancy.

musicanity 09-15-2005 09:27 PM

The intro song and "Rain", the first two songs off Ascendency are great. I love the intro to pull harder on the strings of your matryr. Other songs need a little improvement. good band though.

You've been to metal concerts dude, wake up, metal isn't about being organized and trying to turn discussion into a debate... the bands themselves would tell you that

Just because were in a metal community doesn't mean we act like airheads. That's ridiculous.

How you pulled 'airheads' out of that comment is beyond me

So, courtesy of Wish, I've become a huge trivium fan. Ascendency is a great album. I have a n00bish question, how many guitarists do they have? I have a feeling it's too but they have an Iron Maiden sort of guitar solo sectioning for guitarists and I just had a feeling their might be three.

NP: A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation

SomeGuySomewhere 09-16-2005 03:40 PM
The new Gunshot single, the riff under the Cory's solo is a Blackwater Park riff, along with that RTL rip. It's too similiar to not be called rip offs.
So no one notices those obvious rip offs?

they have 2 guitarists. I never thought of you as a fan of harsh vocals.

Anyone who rips off a Opeth riff deserves to be shot.

Their music sounds nothing like Opeth, to say they are an obvious rip off is just false. It is possible they wrote a riff that sounds similar not realizing Opeth had this riff, none of the band members strike me as Opeth listeners

nope doesn't look like they listen to opeth.

Trivium 09-16-2005 08:37 PM

amazing copy and paste skills you have there

and of course they dont. Im not going to insult opeth ad ive never really heard them

FlyingPaul_83 09-16-2005 08:42 PM

yeah Im good :p

I've never heard opeth either, so I wouldn't know if its a ripoff or not.

mr black 09-17-2005 12:23 AM

In terms of rip-off's, i think Trivium are really good for the time they've had. Although i havn't noticed these "riff rip-off's" some of their vocal melody's sound very similar to other songs even though i can't put my finger on them like the verse vocal lines in 'departure' and 'dying in your arms'.

SomeGuySomewhere 09-17-2005 08:00 AM

I said riff not the music. Listen to the song Blackwater Park by Opeth, the riff after the acoustic section. Compare the two riffs, you will see what I mean. Funny how no one seems to try to refute my accusation of the RTL part either.

Well I'm not, but I'm getting used to it. They're very good

filter 09-17-2005 10:08 PM

Hey I just downloaded bolth of their albums and hey hey I swear ive heard at least 5 albums that sound exactly the same as this sh1tty generic Metalcore band! The vocals are terrilble the screams and clean ones alike. They sound so fckin weak! The bass is inaudible but if you could hear it im sure it would be ****ty. The guitar riffs are weak as fcuk and have no emotion behind them. Matts solos are sh1tty they are the standard Metalcore solos mixed with some poorly played Thrash type solos. The only high point of the albums was Coreys solos he would be better off in a band that wasn't sh1tty. The drumming wasnt anything to get wet about either.

go away

Huber 09-17-2005 11:38 PM

I second the "go away" statement, except add "stop breathing and jump in a river" at the end.

FlyingPaul_83 09-17-2005 11:48 PM

yeh.

I like the little soft interlude songs on ETI. pretty cool.

The end of everything is awesome aswell.

from "Ascendancy" i would recommend:
Dying in Your Arms
Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr
Rain
A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation
Like Light to the Flies

The worst metalcore band goes to As I lay Dying, the ****tiest riffage I've heard from a "talented" band. I only give their drummer some credit, but he over thinks his drumming way to much for it to flow with the music.

Westicle 09-21-2005 07:06 AM

The thing is, is that most Metalcore does sound different. Just like whatever you listen to you can actually tell the difference between each band...metalcore listeners can tell the difference between those bands. So shutup with the metal-core bashing stuff because honestly ide like to see you play anything by Trivium, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Into The Moat, Norma Jean, or The Chariot. Its all complicated...and surely your not good enough at anything.

Shred Danson 09-21-2005 07:14 AM

I wouldn't call Dillenger metalcore, buddy.

Guess what. None of those bands are Metalcore. Trivium = Post Hardcore Metal, Dillinger Escape Plan = Math Metal, The Number 12 Looks Like You = grind, Norma Jean = Post Hardcore Metal, and The Chariot = Post Hardcore Metal, so stop trying to be knowlageable about subjects you don't even know.

Shred Danson 09-21-2005 07:19 AM

He's just picking out all the "new bands" and calling them "metalcore" since that's the popular genre these days  . He's probably only heard "Miss Machine" by DEP  lolerzletzthrowrox@him

Why the hell is everyone in here talking like a knob... "lolzorz" and what not. Whats the point of this thread anyway, its a complete flame fest. They're a good band by todays standards and much more talented than anyone here bagging them which is why their making money for their stuff and your not. Get over it... :chug:

OK, dude,

1). We're talking like "knobs" because we're being sarcastic right now. I don't really type like that.

2). The whole thread isn't a flame fest, there have been a hell of a lot of pro-Trivium posts in here as well. The point of this thread is to have Trivium discussion. I'd rather not have blatant flaming here, but some people are idiots.

3). Nobody's bitching about them making way more many than anybody else, if somebody hates a band, that shouldn't (and most likely isn't) the reason. You get over it. And they're a fairly new band, dude, even to the mainstream, so I doubt they're making a lot of cash.

4). You can't prove they are much more talented than anyone in this thread, that's just a terrible thing to say over the internet. I'm sure there's plenty of people here that could shred like madmen.
