Let's just hope that it's not a Daron-oriented album.
Why does it matter Daron is amazing?

Aeaon 06-04-2005 01:23 PM

But Serj is the true singer for SOAD.

YDload 06-04-2005 01:24 PM

There was a Rolling Stone interview with Daron and Serj (hey I don't buy that stupid magazine it was in a waiting room ok??) and even they said that Hypnotize would be better. Which is great news for me because I really enjoyed Mesmerize and I guess it means they're not just getting worse and worse like most mainstream bands these days (it seems).

Skit 06-04-2005 01:24 PM
What songs are going to be on it?
Hypnotize
Kill Rock n' Roll
Lonely Day
Holy Mountain
Attack
Vicinity of Obscenity
'Tentative'

Thats the confirmed tracklist so far :thumb:

Their older stuff is really good, but their latest album is quite as good.

Skit 06-04-2005 01:31 PM

What exactly is everyones problem with mezmerize?

Darons always written alot of the basslines and he has always done backing vocals the only thing he's done differnet is sung lead on a few of the songs..

Nicholas Sutton 06-04-2005 01:33 PM

I really liked Mesmerize. Honestly though I think they should have just released both their albums as a double cd package or something...I love Mesmerize but the album seems five minutes long whenever I listen to it..just passes by very quickly.

Skit 06-04-2005 01:40 PM

I agree it does seem alot shorter than previous albums, but actually its only a few minuites difference.

Aeaon 06-04-2005 05:40 PM

Hmm, that's odd. I don't even own the album. In fact, I haven't even listened to all of it yet.

It seems like a fine length to me. They made it so well because they made sure that everything in this album was key. I honestly think that this album is going to be the album of the year.

Oh yeah, Hypnotize might beat it. System of a Down will be getting a Grammy this year. If they don't, that's messed up.

Aeaon 06-04-2005 06:35 PM

They probably wil, considering that their latest album is No. 1 on the Billboards list.

Shattered_Future 06-04-2005 06:43 PM

I honestly did not like this album.

Sure, it had its fair share of decent songs...BYOB, Sad Statue, Revenga, Radio/Video...but the majority of the songs sounded like filler IMO. And i liked before when Daron didn't sing as much...i can't stand his voice. Serj is the better singer.

I hope Hypnotize is better than this...even though System is a decent band, i think they're starting to show signs of age...

Nicholas Sutton 06-04-2005 06:47 PM
Hmm, that's odd. I don't even own the album. In fact, I haven't even listened to all of it yet.
Well it's only about a 30 minute album...it only feels a lot shorter. It really isn't a bad album, just zips by.

I completely agree that Hypnotize should probably be better. But that's not saying Mezmerize was bad.

Thor 06-04-2005 09:04 PM

It's official, "Question!" is the coolest song off of Mezmerize. At least in my world it is.

But Grammys are stupid, why would they need one? I mean, they could still get it, but it's not necessary for success in the eyes of any sane person.

And yes, "Question!" is the best song on the album.

+zero+ 06-04-2005 10:11 PM

i didnt like question the first couple times i listened to it.. then i caught on to liking it, and i actually like the whole cd, yes its different, but what.. do you expect soad to just stay the same forever? everyone changes their styles.. its a part of creating music. if it was all the same then itd get old fast.. and i dont see whats wrong with darons voice.. i can understand that his lyrics kinda suck but hey serj should keep singing and write lyrics and daron should keep singing and not write lyrics.. sounds fair

+zero+ 06-04-2005 10:13 PM

lets pretend your in a band and have the chance to get a grammy.
when they say your band name would u say "eh i dont want it".. i dont think so. they dont need it but they deserve it so why not let them have it?

IMO With Teeth, Frances the Mute and Angel of Retibution are all better than Mezmerise

this is my sytem of a down story:

6 months ago i didn't like system of a down but all my friends did so i got familiar with quite a lot of their material. The tickets for Brixton Academy gig in london then came out and my friends got them but i insisted i didn't want to go.
As soon as a week later i was beginning to regret this, not only the feeling of missing out on a gig but i found myself enjoying some of the songs which i had always hated (chop suey, aerials e.t.c). The next thing to happen which changed my whole outlook on system of a down was my friend to put 'steal this album' on his hi-fi. I realise its not a 'proper album' but this was on of the best things i had heard in so long and songs like Mr Jack and Boom became some of my favorite songs. This of course encouraged me to buy 'steal this album' and then the first album and mesmerize.

Of course by this point I was seriously regretting not buying tickets to the gig. So i had to watch my friends travel off to london without me!

....BUT! 3 hours before the gig i get a call from my mate asking me to travel down to london because somebody hadnt turned up....they had a spare ticket! So i had to rush, caught the last train and made it to the gig. One of the best gigs i've ever been to, they played an amazing set including the first ever live play of 'sad statue'.:D

thats what makes me feel so wierd, how i have seen them live and people who have been fans for years havn't. It was wierd sort of a gig because usually I have months of waiting before the gig, but this was just really out of the blue. The pits for Bounce and Prison Song were insane!

Skit 06-05-2005 07:22 AM

Awesome :thumb:

+zero+ 06-05-2005 06:53 PM

i havent seen them cuz they insist on like never coming to america which they actually are this year.. the only time they came to my state recently (wisconsin) was when they came to ozzfest in 2002 and i was way to young to go to that , i woulda gotten murdered.. and they came to chicago which i woulda went to but didnt find out till the tickets were sold out, and that was the day before the concert happended that i found out.. so dissapointing..:(

Handle with care 06-06-2005 07:56 AM

Anyone here heard a song of theirs called Jonny? WTF is that all about!

yea thats one of thier unreleased tracks that didnt make it on Toxicity or STA, but i like it. i pretty much like anything that they make.

Nothing wrong with 36 :thumb:

Aeaon 06-06-2005 01:30 PM

I'm probably one of the only people that likes that song.

CemetaryGates9 06-06-2005 01:38 PM

I haven't heard Johnny in a long time, but when I heard it last I loved it. I'm not a fan of 36. Am I the only one who notices the irony of it being 46 seconds long? I believe it would be 36 if not for the intro.

RockRevival 06-06-2005 02:07 PM

36 is the 36th SOAD song on CD.

S/t - 13 tracks
+
Toxicity - 14 tracks =

27
+
36 is track 9 on STA!.

27 + 9 = 36

CemetaryGates9 06-06-2005 03:21 PM

Oh. That's an interesting fact. Not worthy of three posts though.

I'd have been happy if Pictures were the 36th song on CD.

comeoverandhelpmepunchme 06-06-2005 03:28 PM

darons singing sucks compared to serjs and his lyrics arnet nearly as nice and subtle as serjs this is made obvious with mezmerize coz u can see where daron said this will be the funny sond, seious song, quirky song etc... and out of this double album thing shavo was only allowed 3 songs to record his own bass parts, dont argue that i heard daron say it him self in guitar world

comeoverandhelpmepunchme 06-06-2005 03:32 PM

but dont get me wrong SOAD are still my fav band just..... i looks like daron wants it to be his band

SaladFingers 06-06-2005 03:45 PM

went to see SOAD live on opening night at brixton academy london. they were amazing. didn't play radio/video though but they played an amazing 90 min set. no matter what anyone says, there's passion underneath the madness.

Yea, if they left 36 off, it wouldn't make much difference...i think.

Its only 46 seconds long anyway...

i think its actually the outro that is 10 seconds long. it would be 36 seconds if not for that, not that it really matters though.
