Madey, have you listened to the songs yet? If so, what'd you think?

misunderstood 04-24-2005 09:43 PM

Heh, the reason I haven't really been in this thread is because I know there are links to the new songs and I get tempted to put my cursor over them and click...But I'm determined to wait...One more week....

Magicaltroll 04-24-2005 09:56 PM
They're good. :)
Very good to hear.

Kage 04-24-2005 10:21 PM

NO. PHM and With Teeth are not alike at all, from what I heard at the CD release party. People keep saying that, but it simply isn't true.

AIC/EAZY-E 04-25-2005 02:50 AM

Shi t.I really hope With Teeth is better than this.I wasn't very impressed by any of those other 3 songs.Hand That Feeds is the best song out of those, and the non-single NIN songs usually always outshine the singles. These wouldn't make me buy the album but since my love for NIN is very strong I will still be buying it.Also the teaser on the website sounds cool.
Only was really Down In It-like.It DID sound pretty PHM-era.Not very outstanding.
Every Day Is Exactly The Same was better, but it repeats quite alot.I felt like I've already heard a song a bit like this, say like Where is Everybody. But it's still not what I was expecting.
Right Where It Belongs sounds mean as at the start but it doesn't really pick up.I really thought it would be a great build up,kind of like The Way Out Is Through.Like it gets loud in the middle but doesn't explode into a NIN fury.I guess it's the token quiet song on the album.
The Hand That Feeds is awesome, somehow it reminds me of Little Sister by QOTSA though. It's very pop-ish but still incorporates a NIN-ish feel to it.That's what Reznor does best I guess.I'll still be buying With Teeth, but I had much greater expectations for the first NIN album in nearly 6 years.

The Patient Mental 04-25-2005 09:20 AM

hey guys, just to let u know i got the cd today... religion teacher gave it to me...
it is utterly amaizing
i think i can tell the difference between what trent made for the drums, and dave grohls drumming... theres a couple really fast upbeat songs on the cd, and its obvious grohl went to work on those

i have to say.. amaizing, utterly amaizing cd, buy it, it is a must
first cd that has exceeded my expectations in a loooong time, but i was dissapointed there was no shocker songs... guess trent calmed down on that acpect (stuff like starf*ckers inc. and closer) but besides that, i'm still going to buy this cd, and burn it so i have it in every cd player in my house, and in my car :)

I actually think that Trent wrote Grohl's drums parts as well

Allright, I finally heard With Teeth. I didn't want to listen to it illegitimately, but they posted it on their myspace so it was legit.

I'm not sure what to think of it yet. It's probably my least favorite NIN lp, but I still like it a great deal. It strikes me as an album that's not either great or horrible, but it has ups and downs. The title track and Every Day Is Exactly the Same are examples of downs, but songs like You Know What You Are and Love is Not Enough are awesome. Maybe the other songs will grow on me, but after one listen, that's what I think.

12Rounds 04-26-2005 07:49 PM

I probably like "You know what you are" least of all the songs, except maybe with teeth.

Everyday is exactly the same, only, and all the love in the world are great.

Kaden 04-26-2005 07:55 PM

:amaze: Our tastes in this album are opposite in every way!

EDIT: Only, I also liked all the love in the world

Magicaltroll 04-26-2005 08:51 PM
They put it the whole album on their myspace? WTF are they doing with a myspace? Well, whatever. I'll check it out.
I think its jsut some guy pretending to be them, theres liek 10 different myspaces of them though, so good luck finding the right one.

Kage 04-26-2005 08:55 PM
- An opinion can't be right or wrong.
Shut up.

I feel really behind on all the With Teeth talk, but I'm not reading any of it. I'll enjoy it immensely on Tuesday. The wait seems so minimal now after, say, a year ago when we had no idea when it was going to come out.

Mabelobe 04-27-2005 02:24 PM

4 songs into it thus far....all the love in the world was amazing.....so was you know what you are.....still dislike hand that feeds the most....

Mabelobe 04-27-2005 02:27 PM

He really seemed to change his vocal style on this album....its far different from how he normally sounds.....ok maybe its not THAT much of a difference but im sure you guys can tell what im talking about....

And the guitar tone on this album is superb....(love is not enough is an example)

clearvision 04-27-2005 02:33 PM

Come on kage, you don't wanna ehar the hype, don't enter the trhead.

I have listened to the album like 10 times and it is more like PHM than any Nin i have heard.

Anyone else notice similarities between THTF ridd and manson's fight song riff?

Mabelobe 04-27-2005 02:36 PM
Anyone else notice similarities between THTF ridd and manson's fight song riff?
Well BOTH of the main influences on the majority of mansons albums are IN nin so that makes sense.....but no i hadn't notice it untill u suggested it.....but i can hear it now...
Its funny how far manson has fallen off since Trent and Jordie are no longer participating....

clearvision 04-27-2005 02:48 PM

It is the same riff, just a 4th lower with a couple of strums cut out...trent :(

Mabelobe 04-27-2005 02:57 PM

Doesnt he also play an upbeat right before the repeat of the riff that fightclub doesnt have?

Mabelobe 04-27-2005 02:58 PM

*fightSONG rather*

Kaden 04-27-2005 03:04 PM

Wait until you get to the title track....Gosh it sucks.

clearvision 04-27-2005 03:05 PM

Hmm there is a slight difference in the rythm as i stated before.

And FS is a mjor third below THTF, I looked at the intro for my first post. The riff is basically the same thign though...

Kage 04-27-2005 03:07 PM
It is the same riff, just a 4th lower with a couple of strums cut out...trent :(
If it's the same riff but the notes are all a fourth lower, then it's not really the same.

Mabelobe 04-27-2005 03:09 PM

Indeed With Teeth was pretty weak....joining THTFs as the albums low points....

Other than that the rest of the album was pretty amazing.....it does have alot of PHM in it, i also heard alot of The Fragile with the multitude of strait piano on the album....

Im not disappointed at all....and i had very high expectations.....its a new sound for them but i think it works well.....i just hope the new tool album is as good.....but i dont expect it to be....

Mabelobe 04-27-2005 03:10 PM

When I heard it at the release party, I agree that it was really dam good and a new sound for them. I didn't hear the PHM so much, but maybe I was wrong (I think I was WAY to close to the subwoofer the whole time). I'll be able to discuss further in less than a week.

/Gets excited.

clearvision 04-27-2005 03:58 PM

Excuse me Kage...BUT...

If the intervals are the same, the riff is the same. It's like saying playing baa baa black sheep in C a different tune to playing it in G. Yes the tone is different due to the key change, but it's still the same thing. THTF is a 3rd above FS with about 2 strums cut out...

Kage 04-27-2005 04:15 PM

You're saying that each note is one third above? If so, then the notes are completely different...

EDIT: OH! I didn't see where you said if the intervals are the same then the riff is the same.

Yeah it seems much better than previous records, maybe hes been working on it?

Orp's Capsule 04-28-2005 07:44 AM

ive downloaded this album in my favourite 128 quality. only heard two songs, the 1st single and the opening track - pretty good. ill lesten to the rest in a few days.

clearvision 04-28-2005 11:38 AM

 @ Kage

News just in - trent dresses in a woman suit live...

hehe

I wonder if by chance Jeordie wrote that riff in THTF's.....it would be a nice ****-you to manson now heh...given he has the actual musicality to notice the similarites...

ramoniac138 04-28-2005 05:13 PM

The albums great...I downloaded and burned it...great stuff. It sounds a lot different from The Fragile but its still great

misunderstood 04-28-2005 05:18 PM

I haven't heard the album yet. I know it's been leaked all over the place but I haven't given in. Besides "The Hand That Feeds", I've probably only heard one other song...and I liked it. May 3rd...just a couple more days! And less than a month before the big show...can't wait! Heh.

/goes and listens to "The Downward Spiral"

nrvn55 04-29-2005 02:19 PM

so i just picked up my copy of with teeth, and it is amazing. disc world releases the album early for any one who is interested. not sure if yours will release it but it's worth a shot. the package is a little dissapointing. no book, no nothing. none the less the music is absolutely stellar.

Six Foot Revolver 04-29-2005 02:20 PM

So I don't have any money so I cannot get it yet :upset:

- I highly doubt it.

Trent is NIN, and he has a live band.. pretty simple.

nrvn55 04-29-2005 04:17 PM

yea i really really don;t think jeordie wrote any thing on with teeth. the cd doesn;t have credits so i don;t know for sure.

DAMNIT!!!
My mom said that a local radio station was giving out NIN tickets for free, and all you had to do was be the correct caller, and know the "lead singer's" name...
And she is almost always the right caller (she has great luck), and this time was no different, but she didn't know his name :( :( :(

It sucks...

Man, about 4 more days until the big one... I can't wait.

- Ouch man. By some grace of god I managed to snag four tix to the 2nd Denver show before they sold out. I think the fact that they play a show on the 3rd here snagged people's attention more then the show on the 4th, which I suggested we try and get.
