You can play one cd, two cds, three cds or four cds. And no two times you play the album can it be the same. I have ones on my computer that are just all four discs mixed, but you can't really experience the album unless you have all 4 discs seperate.
And no two times you play the album can it be the same.
Why not? |
I'm wondering whether I should do a review of a certain album. It's a classic, but it's also very underground, and I don't want all these fanboys finding out about it. I probably sound like a total elitist here, but there are some things that just need to stay underground...
EDIT: It's sort of like a 'proving album', for example, if you just say you're into thrash metal, other thrashers might not take you seriously. But if you drop the name 'Darkness Descends' you're going to get instant respect. And if you drop this album, you're going to get instant massive respect. So that's why I don't want just any turd finding out about it. I think I just answered my own question now... |
so... let fanboys be fanboys, and let the people who might truly like it have a chance. Someone else is going to find out sooner or later, so your "protection" of them is really not worth your effort.
The fact that you are thinking about reviewing the album anyway should be enough of a reason for you to do it. |
Why not?
Because it's impossible to get them all to play at exactly the same time as each other. Then add things like difference in volumes, quality of speakers, the position the listener is standing, etc and you have a completely unique experience every time. Of course, you could just mix them on a computer, but wheres the fun in that? |
I have to revoke the Winds album. I got halfway through and realized I had said hardly anything worth reading. Plus Per Ardua did a great job on the better album so buy that one anyway. I do have somehting else in mind though. No Katatonia has been done yet so I'll do Viva Emptiness, because it's just that cool.
|
Of course, you could just mix them on a computer, but wheres the fun in that?
It really does ruin the fun. By mixing them on the computer, you're getting it in the complete and perfect for. By using the different CDs though, you're given the power to disassemble the music and put it back together as you please. Sort of like how Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was made. ;) The Beulah review should be coming tomorrow, and then I'll start Zaireeka. |

Does anyone feel like reviewing something by Ella Fitzgerald? Preferably the 1960 live in Berlin one (Ella In Berlin, I think it's called).
|
I would be interesting in seeing a review of Autobiography by Ashlee Simpson, just for curiosity's sake. I doubt anyone will ever get around to it, but I'll put a request in for fun.

Both |
I hope you guys aren't getting sick of my stupid questions...but what about demos? Are they acceptable?
|
Yep, so long as it's been released in some physical form (rather than just being hosted on soundclick/purevolume, etc).
|
Then I may do some demos by several bands aside from my previously dibsed albums.
|
Is it okay if the demo HAS been released, but is now out of print, and the band are hosting it in mp3 format on their site?
Note = own official website, not soundclick, or anything like that. |
I say just do it. If you think it's worth other people hearing, it's worth doing.
I'm sure Bartender will step in if things go too far in the availability/releasedshipness aspect. For now, just realize that he's probably going as blindly into it as anyone else, except he has to make the decisions. |
Yeah, what blue said :) We've already had a full album reviewed that is essentially only available in mp3 form (Demilich - Nespithe), due to the band getting screwed over by their record label and getting their own back a little by giving the album away for free.
|
Same deal with Soli I Sombra, wasn't it? I think Fast Fingers did it.
In any case, point taken. One Mahavatar review coming up. At some point. |
Fast Fingers definitely did the Soli I Sombra review, but I don't know the story behind it. But yeah. Just go for it.
|
Yeah sort of. They just released the album for free because they wanted to get their name out and a free album is the way to do it. I didn't really ask questions, I just did it.
|

I've reviewed several albums that aren't available to purchase. But the demos I have in mind...I don't know if you could buy them, but they're definitely circulating the internet. |
Anyone mind if I review the Emperor ep?
(I am the Black Wizards Night of the Graveless Souls Cosmic Keys to my Creations and Times Wrath of the Tyrant.) |
Am I allowed to review a single with 4 different songs on it?
|
If they;re just remixes of the same song, I donh'[t know why you would. If you're being sarcastic, go for it.
I really don't see why not. They're available for purchase. |
If they're remixes, then no, probably not. Unless they're really spectacular remixes or live versions, or something. If it's got great significance in musical history (like the, as far as I know, only single we have reviewed), then go for it.
You could always do it as a review within in the review of the album from whence they came (or even better, do a review ofthe album yourself and tag a review of the single(s) on the end, as I did for my Wildhearts reviews) If there is no album album from whence they came, then there should be no problem either. |
I just finished a review of John Legend's "Get Lifted" for the Paper. Hopefully I'll change it up a bit and post it on here tomorrow.

Can someone please review the Cd "Damage Done" by Dark Tranquility?
I've looked in many places and no one seems to have done any reviews. They are a great Melodic Death Metal band IMO. A song to song review would be great is possible Thanks |
