anyways, back to slayer
Do you know if there on tour or making new stuff ?
Touring i wouldn't mind... However, i hope they stop making music. Slayer were good (VERY good) back in the day...however, their albums have slowly become less and less brilliant. If they bust out with a new style, it may be good. |
I think that they just keep getting better.
|
I think that they just keep getting better.
I dunno...i think they kinda reproduced the same album over and over again. |
I dunno...i think they kinda reproduced the same album over and over again.
They sort of did, with some minor changes in sound. But like AC/DC, they do it well. |
I dunno...i think they kinda reproduced the same album over and over again.
I wouldn't go that far in saying that but their sound is pretty straight forward. You could even say that they just have two types of song 1. Fast - e.g. Angel Of Death, Necrophobic 2. Mid-paced and more melodic - e.g. South Of Heaven, Skeletons Of Society. |
What do you all think of Tom's bass playing?
|
I dunno...i think they kinda reproduced the same album over and over again.
They have actually varied their sound quite a bit with each album.... Show No Mercy was balls out fast start to finish, with probably their best soloing work, or at least, most organized soloing.... Hell Awaits, they increased the length of the songs, and the production quality was shoddy, so it has a very different sound than the rest of their stuff Reign in Blood, it came together in the thrash masterpiece... South of Heaven, they slowed it down and added melody Seasons in the Abyss, they speeded it back up and kept the melody Divine Intervention, they went for a heavier sound, Tom's vocals got more intense, and the album had a more "modern" feel Diablous in Musica, they added, dare I say, nu-metallish vibes GHUA, I only listened to a few times, (i have a ****ty copy of it) but it appears to sound most similar to Divine Intervention, but it is their worst album for sure...... |
What do you all think of Tom's bass playing?
Bass was never, and will never be a big element of Slayer's sound.... it is sufficient his playing, but nothing special |

I disagree. :upset: |
Toms Bass playing is nothing special at all. There's no parts to any Slayer songs where I'll think "Hey, that's some nice Basswork" cause there never is. He follows the Guitars nicely, but aside from that I don't rate him highly.

Yes that's true...I do agree with that. :thumb: |

I always thought Seasons was like the combination of Reign In Blood And South Of Heaven, it has the mid-paced songs of South of Heaven and the fast songs of Reign In blood. |

I dont rate him highly as a bassist. But he does play pretty fast, not to mention hes singing while doing it. |

Everyone rates Seasons highly, but I actually like it the least outside of Diabolus and the new one..... I just don't think it had the strong songs the prior four albums and Divine Intervention did. The title track is actually one of my least favorite Slayer songs, even though some people love it. I also find that many people on here own only Seasons and RIB, thinking those are the two best Slayer albums |
Raining Blood's intro on bass still pwns me.
(the supar dupar fast riff that goes -------------------|------------3-2----------| -------------------|--------4--------3-2----| 000-000-000-000--|-0-2-4------------------| |
Tom's not a great bass player but I don't think it's something Slayer really require. I would say his best work was on either Hell Awaits or Undisputed Attitude.
|
I was wondering if you guys could help me out on getting another Slayer album.
I already own God Hates Us All and Reign In Blood. And I would say I like GHUA the most out of those two. So yeah, what CD should I get next? |

The guitar riffs and soloing are insane on that one, plus there are pics inside the album cover of them wearing black makeup, hahaha |
Yeah I agree, get Show no Mercy, it won't fail to please :thumb:
|
^^Yeah, but he likes GHUA the best...
I clicked this thread thinking it was the thrash thread and wondered why everyone was only discussing Slayer  |
 Nice.
I never knew you posted her by the way. |
Skeletons and expendable have a slight resemblance to metallica's eye of the beholder riff. Or is it just me?
Well my favourite 'album' is decade of aggression. whether your willing to get it. =P |

But anyways, I'm I the only person who really doesn't like South of Heaven that much? IDK its my least fvt. Slayer album, its probably cause the songs are slower and I consider it to be a big step back from Reign in Blood. |
I never knew you posted her by the way.
Eh, I check it sometimes. Usually I'm sticking to the Deth and DT threads though. South of Heaven, while its slower, is my favorite Slayer album just because its got that awesome chugging heavy sound to it. |
I'm a big fan of South of Heaven. I think the song writings better in that than Reign In Blood. It's my second favourite Slayer album, Just behind Show No Mercy. The Priest cover is also great.
|
On a side note, anybody heard Cradle Of Filth's cover of Hell Awaits?
They do a decent job with it, i think. |

It's not like the original. It's very Cradle, but that's how covers should be. They did a great job on that, so I'll have to keep an eye out for Hell Awaits. Thanks! |

I'm with you, I love south of heaven.... and there are some brutally fast songs silent scream live undead |
Man I love seasons, I beleive that or hell awaits is one of there best instrumental albums, and I beleive seasons is there best lyrical album two. Does anyone know if the song silent scream is like against abortion I beleive it is but I'm just trying to make sure.

I think it is.... great song, CLASSIC THRASH |
Silent Scream
Bury The Unwanted Child Beaten And Torn Sacrifice The Unborn Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Silent Scream is about abortion or atleast infanticide Embryonic Death, Embedded In Your Brain Suffocation, Strangulation, Death Is ****ing You Insane |
Hey, I'd like to hear what people think are underrated Slayer songs/riffs....
I think Divine Intervention as a whole album was underrated.... and the track "Serenity in Murder" opens with the sickest riff I've ever heard just about.... the whole track is great, man I love that song |
It's mainly stuff from later albums that I think is underrated, stuff like Killing Fields and Circle of Beliefs on Divine Intervantion. I also like Bitter Peace off Diabolus in Musica but to be honest most of their later stuff is a mixed bag and some songs you love and some songs you hate imo, whereas the early stuff is great throughout :)

Yeah I used to love listening to Diabolus, that song Scrum rules.... but I lost the CD like a year ago and haven't listened to it since, ****, I should buy it again, only there are so many other metal CDs I want to purchase, it'll have to wait in line |
Man this thread has been dead for a while, but any way who do you guys think is a better drummer paul bostaph (spelling) or Dave Lombardo IMO watching him on still reigning DVD was amazing. Opinions?
|
I think Dave Lombardo is a better drummer than Paul Bostaph however they are both quite good. I like Dave Mobardo because the drumming on albums like Show no Mercy and Reign in Blood (2 best slayer albums ever) is more infleuntal, creative, and all around better than the albums where Paul Bostaph has written the drum parts. In terms of skills they are basically equal though because Paul could play Daves parts fine but when it came to writting Dave is better.

BUMP
Time to talk about Slayer again.... here is my list of their albums in order of best to worst... hoping to start good conversation here!!! 1. Show No Mercy 2. South of Heaven 3. Divine Intervention 4. Reign In Blood 5. Hell Awaits (would be 3 or 4 but the production quality is hideous) 6. Seasons in the Abyss 7. Diabolus in Musica 8. God Hates Us All I didn't include Undisputed Attitude because that was just covers, or Haunting the Chapel because it is too short. |
Reign In Blood
South of Heaven Seasons in the Abyss Show No Mercy God Hates Us All Hell Awaits Divine Intervention Diabolus in Musica |
Does anybody know what that kid says towards the end of the song Dead Skin Mask ?
