Walrus Gumboot 12-12-2004 09:03 PM

Some Time In New York City certanly exists: it is manifested in the form of shiney disks in a case in my CD holder haha.. It has "Woman is the ****** of the World" which for some reason I couldn't pursuade my sister into playing for her elementary school talent show... bitchin' sax solo

What is everyone's/anyone's Favo(u)rite Beatles movie? Examples:
A Hard Day's Night
Help!
Magical Mystery Tour
Yellow Submarine

I haven't seen Help! yet but so far my vote goes to Magical Mystery Tour

LetsRoc 12-12-2004 09:12 PM

hey i love yer name "Walrus Gumboot"........classic. We do a pretty unique cover of I am the Walrus, check it out if ya like..

DeusExMachina 12-13-2004 02:10 PM

Woman is the ****** of the World... man, what a great title. I haven't seen any of the Beatles movies in the past 10 years (not since i was 6 or 7) so I can't tell you which is my favorite.

gmoneyguy 12-13-2004 02:20 PM

I have only seen Help! I want to see the others, but I don't know where to get them from.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 12-13-2004 04:59 PM

I've only seen part of Yellow Submarine...and that was before I cared for the Beatles, so I wasn't really paying much attention(it was in a "General Music/Music Appreciation" class in middle school).

I haven't been able to find them either...well I found them on eBay but I dont want to buy used ones...and I would rather buy them at a store.

Broken Arrow 12-13-2004 05:28 PM

My vote goes to MMT, I also think the album is unbelievably underated!

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 12-13-2004 05:45 PM
I also think the album is unbelievably underated!
I agree. I mean it has Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, All You Need Is Love, The Fool On the Hill(underrated song IMO), I Am the Walrus, and Hello, Goodbye. Plus, it has the only instrumental song that I can stand listening to.

Broken Arrow 12-13-2004 05:48 PM

What about Baby You're a Rich Man and Flying they are 2 of the best songs on the album IMO>.

Woodstock 12-13-2004 05:57 PM
What about Baby You're a Rich Man and Flying they are 2 of the best songs on the album IMO>.
I think the same thing, both are very catchy songs.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 12-13-2004 05:58 PM

I can't believe I forgot Baby, You're A Rich Man..but I mentioned Flying(not by name but that's the one I was talking about when I said instrumental.) Blue Jay Way, Magical Mystery Tour and Your Mother Should Know are alright songs too, but I have to be in the mood for them.

Broken Arrow 12-13-2004 06:00 PM

Hmmm, In my opinion Penny Lane and Fool on the Hill are the worst on the album, but I'm crazy!

Woodstock 12-13-2004 06:02 PM

Your Mother Should Know is another favorite off the album.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 12-13-2004 06:04 PM

what is your least favorite album?

mine would probably be either Please Please Me or With the Beatles. I love both albums but they're below their other albums.

Broken Arrow 12-13-2004 06:20 PM
Your Mother Should Know is another favorite off the album.
Meh not really.

Please Please Me is probably the worst one.

Mob 12-13-2004 06:25 PM

I love Fool On the Hill,
Not many people liek the song Helter Skelter but i am a Big Fan!

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 12-13-2004 06:25 PM

I heard that in England, Love Me Do was the Beatles first single and it only went to #17, and Please Please Me was their next single and it went to #1. I dont agree with that...does anyone else prefer Love Me Do or am I just weird?

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 12-13-2004 06:27 PM
I love Fool On the Hill,

I like both of those songs too. Helter Skelter has an awesome riff each time after he says Helter Skelter.

Walrus Gumboot 12-13-2004 07:20 PM

mm I always wanted to see if I could pass Helter Skelter off as a hardcore punk-y song to untrained ears... maybe get them to admit it kicked *** and then tell them that it was the beatles

http://www.gasolinerainbow.ca/music.html
Thank you, and your I Am The Walrus was pretty dern good... I was expecting something bouncier, but that was actually a bit slower than the original, which says alot about being able to mess with the more technical aspects rather than making it faster/heavier like many Beatles covers, maybe next time I am in Ontario I will check y'all out

PS: Where are the cryptic messages? haha

Broken Arrow 12-13-2004 07:55 PM

Wait a sec, I'm in Ontario right now.

Hapiness is a Warm Gun or While My Guitar Gently Weeps?

Walrus Gumboot 12-13-2004 08:35 PM

Yeah Ontario kicks ***, and so does Canada really, until winter hits, then it still kicks ***, just slightly less

I thought Let It Be was very weak, although I like it more than some of ther very earlier stuff (of which the likeability explodes when you first hear it but quickly fades after hearing it too many times). But considering what came before Let It Be, I thought it was a step backwards, but still very good, esp. Across The Universe :faints:

If I'm in a short attention span mood, HIAWG. Otherwise, While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

gmoneyguy 12-13-2004 09:08 PM

Hard choice, But seeing how i prefer the guitar work in While My guitar Gently Weeps I am going to choose While My guitar Gently Weeps.

Happiness is a Warm Gun.

Oh, I just saw the Concert for Bangladesh video! Awesome show! (almost fell asleep during the Dylan part though, but I was really tired).

BludgeonySteve 12-13-2004 09:49 PM

While My Guitar Gently Weeps is classic.

Even better done by Jeff Healey :thumb:

/shameless Jeff Healey promoting once again.

Too bad its not.

Heard it?

When I tried to get into Healey that was one of the first songs I downloaded.
So yes I have.

BludgeonySteve 12-13-2004 10:59 PM

Lies! :(

:(

Well, atleast the guitar is better on it ;).
George was definitely rad, and very underlooked. His solo career is really incredible, and songs like Here Comes the Sun and Something are just incredible.
yea ur right about George...but i was surprised that he didnt want to quit as bad as Ringo...John and Paul kick *** but the other two defenately deserved way more credit

Jaded 12-14-2004 12:00 AM

I love their later stuff. I don't really like their early bubblegum stuff. Big fan of Magical Mystery Tour and the White Album. Revolver is awesome as well. Unfortunately, I don't have any of their stuff of CD, just vinyl, so I can't listen to it that much.

gwerkjkgukerhfvoiusdhgoiewrhgi 12-14-2004 01:35 PM

hmmmm where should i start. First of all i think that the beatles werent that great at all. I mean none of htem were very acomplished at any of the instruments that they played. I mean people say that John Lennon isone of the greatist guitarists of all time. i have to disagree. i mean what was so creative about the way he played guitar. Simple chords thast anyone can play is what i say. and i think that paul was a horrible writer. I mean all o his songs sound the same. "I love you la la la hoo hoo hoo" I mean all of his songs were this in different forms. George harrison is another story. Some eastern asian ripoff guitarist. "oh hes into eastern spearituality" so what. Oh and dont even get me started with ringo. He was really bad at drumming. i could play any of his drumbeats and i dont even know how to play drums.
When you look at the grand scheme of things i think you will agree with me. they werent that great of a band and i dont know why thaey are so popular.

gmoneyguy 12-14-2004 01:40 PM
I am ignorant.
You could have type this and your point would be the same.
First off, john is the rythym guitarist of course he plays simple chords. do you feel smart for coming up with such an obvious revelation?

Ringo's beats are made to suit the music, not to back thrash metal. You don't play do you? So don't make an ignoratn comment.

They aren't accomplished on any intsruments? Wrong. Paul and john both played Piano. George played the citar. On top of their regular instruments.

I don't and many people who have any sort of respect for music in general would not agree with you.

You think we'll agree with you? This thread is dedicated to how awesome the Beatles are, obviously we're going to say "gee whiz, the beatles really do suck!" because some sap online told us so. I don't know what you listen to, but its probably crappy death metal or thrash metal, because that **** has no melody, so you wouldn't understand or respect the subtleties of what the Beatles did. Have you heard George play the sitar? He's very, very talented at it. He also can play the ukulele **** well, as showcased on his solo albums. And what do you mean by "eastern asian ripoff guitarist?" I mean, you don't back any of your **** up. By your logic, I can say all speed metal guitarists are just "neo classical rip off guitarists." George's playing was incredibly revolutionary, no one had done that kind of Indian sound before. You seem to have some horrible notion that what makes a band good is how difficult it is to play their songs. Look at me, I can play chromatics at lightning speed, I'm obviously a musical genius! I can play guitar like plenty of speed metal guitarists, but I can't write like The Beatles. You don't know what you're talking about.

Well, it obviously doesn't matter what you think, because you don't know very much about music or songwriting.

Woodstock 12-14-2004 04:45 PM

I have never heard anyone say that John Lennon is the best guitarist ever. Ever.

Songwriting was the key to the Beatles success. They proved they could make amazing songs without spectacular musicianship. That was toward the early years of their career.

Later in their span was where their musicianship started to shine. George was playing the sitar very well, John became an amazing pianist, and Paul became a great bassist and pianist.

And if you claim to be better at a certain musical instrument than a accomplished musician of 40 years, you're wrong.

JohnLennon 12-14-2004 04:46 PM

This guy clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. I have been a die-hard Beatles fan for 17 years and I've never seen a band like them. First off, John Lennon was by far the most inspirational/gifted musicians of the 21st century and not to mention the Lennon-McCartney song-writing capabilities. George Harrison was a great man and a talented guitar player, not to mention citar player. Ringo was an amazing drummer for his time, sorry he never did solos like Lars Ulrich you piece of ****...look at their career from Hamburg to 1970, and then tell me they suck. Ignorant...

Okay, lets not assume anything. That guy has only had one post, and he never mentioned anything about metal or Lars Ulrich. Ringo was not an amazing drummer, he was average at best. He could have been way more interesting, but he played some pretty boring stuff.

Distant Echoes 12-14-2004 05:53 PM

Its hard to respect a drummer of such an inspirational band such as the beatles when you compare him to metal/hard rock drummers. Its hard to respect the musical ability, beyond the fact of speed, loudness, etc. if thats all you limit yourself to. As a musician my self, both guitarist and drummer, i can point out certain aspects of song which i know take more talent than what you hear, and learning to play them songs even farther challenges their musical ability to be greater because of skill. To metal/hard rock, Speed and loudness are factors used (sometimes not intentionally) to cover up lack of skill, because as i said, its what you hear that you judge by before getting the basic understanding of music.

In any case, its safe for anybody to say the Ringo Starr probably wasnt the greatest drummer, but by far the most inspiration. And yes, he had more than "just average" talent, but talent beyond the insanity of crazy drum solos and cymbal thrashing

DeusExMachina 12-14-2004 06:11 PM

Lets move on to a friendlier topic. Does anyone have Harrison Live in Bangladesh? Is it any good? I have his Live In Japan CD, and its really amazing.
