I have Blackriver Park, and it's a ****ing badass album, but I haven't gotten the ****ation and Deliverance albums yet...:(

but yes, Opeth is awesome, I think they carry the future of metal...

(Am I a noob in this thread...****! 20 pages...)
Another thread-noob here, whoa this thread just seemed to pop out of nowhere.

Anyway Morningrise is my favourite Opeth album.

Hu Smells? U Smell And Ur Little Dog Too.

WTF^
I love Morningrise. I'm learning To Bid You Farewell with my guitar teacher. It's one of the most beautiful songs Opeth have written. Orchid and Blackwater Park are awesome too, there are some great heavier songs on those 2. Mikael Åkerfeldt is a genius.

Maynard 10-04-2004 01:40 PM

I don't like Opeth's heavy screaming sound, their acoustic stuff is ****ing great though.

Why thankyou :thumb: Yerp you gotta love a bit of Carcass haven't you, to break up the long thoughtful Opeth and Tool music sessions. And Becker? There is no word fit to describe Becker other than God. His life is tragic though. Why him? He didn't deserve what happened to him.

iginfest 10-04-2004 01:48 PM

He is a God, his story is truly one of the saddest in music. And Carcass rock immensely.

Yes. Opeth. Good.

Morningrise has been the soundtrack to my life for the past 4 days or so. Advent is a really good song, I realize.
I LOVE Morningrise, my favourite album (tied with Deliverance).
But I found I really disliked Orchid, but Ive only listened to it 2 or 3 times.
In The Mist She Was Standing, however, is amazing. As is The Apostle In Triumph.

Rankings!:
(Note: I don't have Still Life yet)
1. Morningrise/Deliverance
2. My Arms Your Hearse
3. Blackwater Park
4. Damnation
5. Orchid
Oh, how you must listen to it some more! It was probably the Opeth album that took me the longest to like, but now it's number 2 just behind Morningrise.

Grey Incision 10-04-2004 09:58 PM

please don't flame me, but i personally don't like morningrise, i haven't listened to much of it, but what i have heard wasn't better than MAYH, Blackwater or still life

Don't worry, just like I probably will like Orchid, you will LOVE Morningrise. Best album, along with Deliverance.

Grey Incision 10-04-2004 10:05 PM

yes, deliverence kicks absolute metallica ***!

please help opeth out everyone, vote for them in the ultimate metal band thread!

Yeah, guys. Opeth is taking a horrible beating from lame-*** Metallica fans who are creating new accounts just to get their votes in. Put a lot of votes on the table right now, push them ahead ten votes, and we'll see if Metallica spurts ahead by a whole lot. If it does, we'll call the mods on Metallica's ***. Yet another fine internet franchise that they've ruined. :upset:

Grey Incision 10-04-2004 10:15 PM

leave the accusations to that thread, i was just using my post as a last note, this is solely an opeth thread, we shouldn't try and bring the battle here

.Realm.of.Chaos. 10-05-2004 11:32 AM

I heard my first Opeth album on the week i forget what it was called but it was their "2000" album (2000 being the year) And I have to admit it was good, can anyone recomend me some more albums from them?

Kaden 10-05-2004 02:43 PM
Best album, along with Deliverance.
I personally can't get inteo Deliverance. By The Pain I See in Others is a great song, besides that the whole album is pretty meh to me.

Det_Nosnip 10-05-2004 03:02 PM

Well, the title track is fantastic...

I think it was mentioned in the other thread, but is it just me or would crowning Opeth the "Ultimate Metal Band" seem odd. They are no doubt an awesome band, but the ultimate? There's something to them that makes me think the final two bands should be Metallica and Maiden.. or something.

I voted for Opeth anyways :D

LeperAffinity 10-05-2004 05:54 PM

For all the people looking to get into Opeth, this site has Damnation, Deliverance, Blackwater Park, Still Life, and My Arms Your Hearse available for streaming. The quality's kinda crappy though, but it's better than nothing.

well, i have thought about it, and they are an odd choice for 'ultimate' metal band, in a lot of people's opinions, they are 'the best' metal band, but 'ultimate' is different, i don't know, bands like Megadeth, black sabbath, Judas priest and metallica are the bands you think of when somebody talks about metal ya know? Don't get me wrong, metallica can rot for all i care and opeth rox my sox  but i don't think they are 'ultimate'

Grey Incision 10-06-2004 06:48 PM

people, i am proud to say that i am currently taking the time out to listen to Morningrise all the way through, and i am halfway through Nectar. I must say.....................****! that is quality stuff, i've always thought Morningrise was the worst album, but now it's shot up to about no. 3 on my list, and night & the silent water has replaced Leper affinity as one of my favourite songs

The Night And The Silent Water 10-11-2004 03:53 AM

Opeth plain rule.... ive been into them for over a year now, ive bought all their albums... there is not one day goes by that i dont listen to at least one of their albums all the way through... fave at the moment is Still Life, but overall its gotta be Morningrise :D

Mikael is god!!!!

All hail Opeth!!!!!

kalpa 10-11-2004 04:21 AM

anyone seen the vid clip for windowpane.

looks like nothign else matters to me.

the stranger 10-11-2004 07:45 AM

I remember when someone last week posted there would be a scenes from a memory movie, but he lied :upset:

so I want proof please

Heavy0metal0freak 10-11-2004 08:55 PM
definatly my favorite line, i love that song.
wats the name of the song?

ArcLite 10-12-2004 01:26 AM

My guess is no, but do Opeth have any videos? I mean music videos, not like Lamentations or anything. I'm thinking there isn't but maybe one exists...

Shlakalam3 10-12-2004 08:35 AM

To whoever said Deliverance is only a mediocre CD, and that By my Pain in Others is the best songs-- By my Pain in others is the simplest, least complex song. Mikael never sings with his great singing voice, and he has a lame effect on during the verses. Granted, its a great song, but there are lots of better on that CD. :thumb:

Opeth just doesn't deserve to be the ultimate metal band. It would seem really out of place if Opeth won, instead of Metallica, Iron Maiden, or Sabbath.

the2stranger 10-12-2004 08:53 AM

I wouldn't call it odd, it's just what the crowd thinks

bucket 10-12-2004 06:38 PM

I believe there is a Windowpane video. I think it was shown on Headbangers ball.

swedelead 10-12-2004 06:46 PM

Opeth completely deserve to be in the final two of the Ultimate Metal Band Poll, they have strong music and vocals and the voting proves that many people my self included think they deserve it. However it surprised that neither maiden nor sabbath got into the final two. But the people have spoken.

mattlewis53 10-12-2004 09:52 PM

I tried to buy Blackwater Park today but there was no CD inside the case...just an empty case. I took it back to the store but they didn't have another Blackwater Park so I had to use the store credit they gave me to get Deliverance. I like it but now I want Blackwater Park even more.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 10-12-2004 10:45 PM

I LOVE OPETH!

Favourite song: Master's Apprentices.

I love the way they use standard tuning.

Det_Nosnip 10-12-2004 11:27 PM

^^ You love...the way...they use....standard tuning?

There definitely is one...it's mainly just shots of the band in the studio. I think I have it downloaded.

Give it to me! ~steals~

I've revised my list of favorite Opeth albums. From best to worst:
Morningrise
MAYH
Blackwater Park
Orchid
Still Life
****ation
Deliverance
To whoever said Deliverance is only a mediocre CD, and that By my Pain in Others is the best songs-- By my Pain in others is the simplest, least complex song. I mainly like By The Pain for the clean part, which owns extremely hard. I dunno why, Deliverance as an album just doesn't click with me. ****ation either, really; even though it is excellent it just doesn't feel like Opeth. Although I've got to hand it to them, they've set a very high precedent for themselves, so it'll be hard to top what they've done in the past.
