I need to elaborate a little ono what I said last night.

There's nothing wrong with discussing the origins of the genre, or bands, but what frustrates me is that this is all that gets discussed. Whenever something truely interesting comes up, it goes on for a few posts, but those not involved with the discussion would rather than use their heads and have a meaningful discussion beyond adding more and more bands to the wish list return to the mindless babble. The same old stuff.

Deth 06-28-2007 11:50 AM

That's on my list of things to get. I love the s/t Master album.

Invicta_Veritas 06-28-2007 11:50 AM

Here's a discussion starter.

What do you guys think is the biggest difference between pre-benton and benton era Vital Remains? Obviously a different lineup including Benton, but lyrically and vocally they are almost identical. So what makes the difference for you guys?

pate 06-28-2007 11:50 AM

What the **** do you consider interesting?

@Stevie

Repetition of this kind is definitely something to expect dude. Most of us have been posting in this thread for years so we have the feeling that literally everything has been discussed, plus a lot of us have kind of grown out of death metal and they're only willing to discuss certain bands which mean a lot to them than exploring new ones (something we've been doing for years anyway).

Stevie 06-28-2007 11:54 AM

eg the discussion of the meaning behind the bands music. meaning behind the genre. why we listen to DM. etc etc my dinner's just arrived!

pate 06-28-2007 12:01 PM

Meaning is subjective and bs, and I listen to dm because I like it.

Now who wants to talk about Sinister?

i listen to the kind of DM-bands i like. tbh. i know more or less about the history, but i'm not interested into old-school-death only cause i could be more "true". i don't give a sh1t about this.
i like DM, i dislike some bands, others not... only cause i have only one possessed song on my harddisk, doesn't mean i don't have a clue what DM really is...

This.

And nobody answered my question.

The pre-Benton stuff doesn't all sound the same. The only Benton era stuff I can remember off the top of my head are the two uber-melodic parts of "Dechristianize". Other than that, it all sounds the same imo.

Invicta_Veritas 06-28-2007 12:13 PM

I think "Icons of Evil" cures that a little bit, but I see where you're coming from a bit.

hahahaha what a stupid post

you haven't the mental capacity.

Tyler 06-28-2007 12:13 PM

The only Vital Remains parts I ever remember are ones I remember because they repeat like 30 times over in the same song.

FatalEnergy 06-28-2007 12:15 PM

I could never get into Vital Remains honestly. I'll just stick with Deicide.

I was pissed when I heard Ralph left.
The only Vital Remains parts I ever remember are ones I remember because they repeat like 30 times over in the same song.
As I've stated before, if you actually look at the lyrics and song structure, they don't repeat sections any more than any other band. The parts themselves are just so long that it gets boring when they are repeated.

But that wasn't my question.

I actually only got into Deicide a few months ago after being a VR fan for a long time. I only have Scars of the Crucifix and The Stench of Redemtion.
S/T NOW
yes, master.

That good, eh?

I've heard a lot about Legion. I've been thinking about getting it.

Stevie 06-28-2007 12:21 PM

ok then

most here seem content with the mindless chatter so i can see that as an intelligent person i will find little use in continuing to revel in this directionless crap.

cya

AA-12 06-28-2007 12:22 PM

s/t = one of the most essential DM albums ever

Deth 06-28-2007 12:22 PM
yes, master.

I still stand by Legion as the superior album.

And as much as I love the s/t, those solos are laughably bad.

FatalEnergy 06-28-2007 12:23 PM

I'll have to stand by Legion as well. Although the s/t is quite good.

Invicta_Veritas 06-28-2007 12:23 PM

I shall venture over to amazon and have a listen....

EDIT: I have fallen in love with Legion. S/T I'm a little iffy on.....

///continues listening...

RetiredAt21 06-28-2007 12:44 PM

Invicta_Veritas 06-28-2007 12:49 PM
