What do you prefer in terms of both basses? Do you like the style of one more than the other? The necks? The tone? The electronics? |
I prefer the peavey because it is a peavey, though i havent played one i have had good experience with other peaveys and from what i have heard from other player it is a good bass for small handed player. it is also cheaper.
the ibanez has been raved about but ibanez's i have played havent blown me away, there is just something about their sound, but this is a better spec one with better pups an pre so may be better. Unfort i am still to find a local shop that stocks either. i prob wouldnt mod the Ibanez as the only reason i would start on the peavey is the lack of active eq but after a while i could prob afford an U-retro for it. |
well all i can suggest is keep loking for either to play but, if that still fails, go with the peavy :thumb:
|
no where in glasgow seems to stock many 6ers at all, they are a rare breed, but thanx for the peavey support, i was unsure because everyone bigs up the 506
|
meh imo ibanez's can be VERY hit and miss
|
The SR506 has a pretty weak sounding B string, and the tonal difference when moving between your D to your G and C strings is huge.
No bass is without its problems. People overrated the SR506. I'm happy with mine, but I know that it's not the end-all be-all of basses. |
i played on the SR506 once before, its a nice bass
|
well im outter here
see ya guys |

The only hard part is trying to figure out what kind of a bass I want next. I'd really like a nice four for playing in bands and for slapping, but a 7 string is just what I need for my solo music... hmmm...
|
You can play in bands and slap on a 7.
|
You can play in bands and slap on a 7.
In a band setting, I'm not too likely to use those higher strings. And I don't know if I want to punish my back by playing with a seven for that long. |
You still have a 6, too. Because I have one, I know that it's not a very heavy bass.
Also, do you have a band right now that you want the 4 for? |

Because the 7 is way more awesome. 4 is useless when you have 7.
It's not like anyone gets a 7 and tunes it ADGCFBbEb. |

It's not like anyone gets a 7 and tunes it ADGCFBbEb.
 Yeah, truly so. As long as the string spacing isn't any tigther than it is on the Ibanez, I can hack slapping. And I'd love to see the look on a guitarists face when I show up to audition for a band and whip out a 7. |
My ibanez sr505 has been very good to me until recently.
Lately, when i hit the open strings the note will distort and almost sound like i threw on a pedal. It doesn't happen whenever i fret a note wich I'm finding werid. Any one have any ideas about what could be wrong? |

i do beleive mine is passive, especially since theres no battery opening on the back.
And the bass knob on my amp and bass are turned slightly. Not all the way. |
Spiff, what's the status on the Zorn albums?
/Is a music bum |
I need to get my bass fixed up.
-solder wire on input jack -adjust action (it's not all the bad, but needs adjusting for how I want it, not totally sure how to do it on my own, especially with two truss rods) -new strings (don't fully need them yet... after over a year and a half, but why not?) -clean pots -reattach volume knob Ugh... it's not even that much, but it's stuff that I need to do or get done. |

Garry Goodman is so amazing! His tone is riduculous, and he really puts a lot of fun emotion into this version. I think I've found one I like more than Jean's. |
