What do you guys think of Bob Rock the producer? How has he both helped and hurt metallica since becoming their producer?

I think he's got a lot of talent when it comes to recording albums (just check out the black album, superb quality) excluding st. anger.

I'm still suspicious that he may be influencing metallica to play for a mtv crowd instead of just the regular thrash crowd they used to play for.
yeah he is a talented producer but there comes a time when you need to get rid of the yes men and get someone that will tell you that the integridy just isn't there. It happened with KISS when they whent back to bob ezrin to do the album The Elder, which sucked balls.

Metallica man of bass 12-04-2003 11:01 AM

ive got all the metallica albums or so i thought......ive bn a fan of metallica 4 years now but i was told that they have an album push head.....which i find hard 2 believe since if they had it i'd know abt it.......has any1 else heard oh it?????......or was this guy jst lyin to me????

Ted VanHammett 12-04-2003 12:56 PM

What do you guys think about Metallica, instead of trying to make a new album, trying to remaster the old albums.

Ride the Lightning- Awesome album, but just sounds like **** by todays standards, production-wise

Master of Puppets- Sounding better then Lightning, but could use a remastered version

...and Justice for All- Three Words... "Where's the Bass?"

Those three, not only their greatest three albums, but would sound unreal with full pounding bass guitar and the double bass would be so intense

Yes that would be awsome.

Some guys I know went to see Metallica in London (I live in Scotland) and the tickets were around £125! I know it's Metallica but sheesh, my Maiden tickets were only £28. Though they did play the whole of RTL and MOP so it would've been a good show.

Fishbrain456 12-04-2003 03:16 PM

can someone suggest more songs from metallica that are decent besides

master of puppets
fade to black
the one
enter sandman
the unforgivin

i know there is more, those are just the ones im familiar with

Dude go out and buy every Metallica CD. Cant go wrong. They just have too many songs that will make you love them.

luftvier 12-04-2003 03:20 PM

I dunno guys...I have tried to like Metallica for a LONG time, but I just can't do it. I can't stand listening to any one song for more than a few seconds...

Their music is so very close to what I like, but somehow something is missing that makes me really dislike them. . . I know for a fact that part of it is Hetfield's vocals- so........uninspired I guess is the best word. They all sound the **** same. I find Max Cavalera's poor-english shouts more interesting. Funny, since I know Sepultura was so greatly influenced by Metallica.

The actual musical structure itself just doesn't do it for me either. It nags at me since it is so close to what I do like...

Honestly, I would much rather listen to Motorhead ("detonating the most explosive heavy metal riffs when Metallica was still dealing with acne problems in high school") or old Sepultura than (old or new) Metallica any day.

I consider them to be one of the most overrated successful bands of all time.

iatemyguitar 12-04-2003 03:21 PM

hmmmm, maybe. I think all Metallica's stages are in their own way exellent. Sanitarium is amazing but i think the best song is "One" i love the way it gets progresively heavyer

Wow I don't come to the R&M forum much...

Official Metallica Thread? 21 pages?

Haha, that's worse then the Blink 182 problem in the pop-punk forum.

Anyways.... Yeah I've never been a fan of Metallica.

One is by far the best Metallica vid.

Whiskey In The Jar is also a good video.

kirk_wylde 12-05-2003 06:23 AM

one is okay vid great song tho , glad to see 'tallica boys released bet song of St.anger with a decent video at last. too bad the rest of the album weren't that great.

Oh yeah and king nothing video sucks!!

TheUnavoidable 12-05-2003 07:15 AM

The Unamed Feeling was a very good video. The only thing that sucked about it was that lars played the song all wrong, constantly. Like playing the Hi-Hat when it's so clearly a cymbal beeing played in the song. Other than that it was great.

freedomfighter 12-05-2003 08:23 AM

Its a message to the noobs and the chimaira-haters out there.

Dream Works 12-05-2003 08:41 AM

i once showed some girl the one video and she cried...

StitchFace 12-05-2003 09:47 AM

Metallica is the original main stream fast playing hardcore metal bands. Judis Preist, and all those "metal" bands from the 80's were capitalizing on their version of "metal". And even though there are more hardcore bands out there besides Metalica, they're lyrics arn't all I hate you you stupid ****er and stuff. They can have emotion and hardcore in the same song, and that's one of the things I love about it. :):)

bball_1523 12-05-2003 09:52 AM

I saw the unnamed feeling video and it was pretty good. The only thing I don't like about the video and the song is the part where James gets all emotional, it just isn't what Metallica does (it looks like Jonathon Davis....).

Off topic: Can you suggest some chimaira songs? I've only heard pure hatred, which was pretty cool.

*disguises*

Battery is a sweet song..and so is seek and destroy.. i feel that a couple of the albums aren't as awesome as the others. they are load and reload and also their new one ..St. anger i believe.. the best would have to be the master of puppets album..

recklessparadisedrummer 12-06-2003 03:36 PM

Wherever I May Roam has taken over my life. Anyone else find that with songs like One, you didn't like them the first two or three times you heard them, then they just bit you and refused to let go?

I think its this next album (after st. anger) and they'll call it a day. It will prolly be somehting epic like black album, possible like reload....but i doubt it will go back tothe old days...i thin metallica want to put those days behind if i'm not mistaken.
i hope you end up being wrong about that. metallica's older stuff is the best and it would be awesome if they go back to it.

p.s. if i come off as trying to flame you, im sorry. im not tryin to

Of Wolf and Men for me

LovePaintedRed 12-06-2003 04:58 PM

Old metalica was awesome rock. New metalica earns none of my respect and the only reason that they arent on my hate list is because of there old music. St. Anger was TERRIBLE. One of my least favorite CDs. Metalica should either be over with or go back to the old stuff.

stupidboy69 12-06-2003 06:41 PM
