poor Low End, you need a girlfriend or something bro. you need to go out somewheres
Heh, I had a girlfriend till a few days ago, and then she came over this morning and yeah... there were some activities that occurred prior to me making that post... Ren and Stimpy was a great show back in the day. When Spike tried to come out with the new version, they ruined it. Too adult oriented. And yeah, anime pr0n is t3h grosszorz. |
we need more cool cartoons out ... Jean should pay us to write some :smoke:
Ooh, if I catch you online...
Do you have any tabs for What Would HeMan Do? I'm very obsessed with that song right now, and having just got my 7 string, you're very inspring to me as to how an ERB can fit into a heavy/fun/quirky/good band well and gel with the other instruments. Thanks a bunch dude, though I'm pretty sure you'll tell me to tab it by ear ;)! :smash:
Is there a tab program that works on a Mac? That song can probably be played on a 5-string. Or I can try to put a couple of parts in here. |
I don't watch any TV. But I have watched some DVD collections of TV shows (24, Oz, Six Feet Under).
Ahh... Oz and Six Feet Under are brilliant shows. My mom used to wonder a lot about me when ever she saw me watching Oz. Very powerful, though. |
Jean, I used to enjoy your music, before you revealed to the forum that you DON'T like tentacle anime. How disgusting. :thumb:
|
That's not anime, that's Hentai!
And yes, Jean, if you could, I would love you. I have a 5 and a 7, so whatever works for you man. I don't know if they work on Macs, but the only tab programs I know are Guitar Pro and Powertab. :smash: |
Is there a tab program that works on a Mac? That song can probably be played on a 5-string. Or I can try to put a couple of parts in here.
You could always do it in an old-school .txt document. |

wow, hes one cool bassist, give out tabs to his songs :thumb: *tear*
|
Yeh man, I thank you in huge quantities :)
I have muchos love for laydees, but you get man love. Dude, feel priviledged. Its not as if manlove doesn't get thrown around the Casual thread or anything... :amaze: :smash: |
Jean, I was wondering (again, seeing as I just got my Conklin 7), you use your 9 for every song in Nuclear Rabbit? I've not seen live pictures of you without it. And how many of the songs do you actually use all (or any of the higher register ones) in? Is it hard to hold back and groove when you have all that shredding potential infront of you?
EDIT: Extra question, specially for you. Like I say, I just got the Conklin, 3 days ago infact. However, I've been noticing that I'm getting a lot of pain in my fretting hand. Its happening in the tendons on the back of the hand - the ones that move a bit when you wiggle your fingers. This hasn't happened in the previous 2 and a half years of my playing except for once when I got my first 4 string bass, but it was corrected by my correcting my technique. This time however, my technique is flawless as I can see it in my fretting hand, my thumb is in the right place, I'm fretting properly, my bass isn't being played at a funny angle. Its got to the point where it hurts to play, so I stop, and now, hours later, it still hurts (though it hurts more to play the 5 string than the 7 once that pain has set in). I don't want to injure myself, so I was wondering if you knew a possible cause of the problem to avoid me injury down the road. I want to sort this out rather than sell the Conk, as I love it to bits! Is it just something that will happen and will wear off after I'm used to the extra neck size (that seems a bit of a long shot. I don't see why it should hurt if everything is goign right)? A friend of mine with a 7 says it takes about 2 or 3 weeks to become as proficient on the 7 as on the 5. I'd hate to give up before I even get to that stage! Thanks a bunch Jean, if you can answer that, but I'm fully aware it may be something you just can't answer! :) :smash: |
Whens the solo cd coming out Jean?!
|
Hello Jean
I believe I read somewhere that you were sponsored by some bass companies (such as Conklin and possibly Accugroove), and if this is true, I was wondering how you managed to get these deals. I'm asking because your career is very close to what I'd consider a dream career (I don't think anyone can say no to tons of bass gear, a long-standing band, and solo cds). Also, for no reason, do you like Super Nintendo? I've been playing Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time a lot lately. |

Thanks a bunch Jean, if you can answer that, but I'm fully aware it may be something you just can't answer! :) :smash:
hey fatbandit - since the 9 has all the strings of my other basses, of course I can use it on any song... I can probably get by with most of the NR stuff on just a 5 and a 6. The 9 was necessary for the E:OS stuff which was written to use the instrument to it's full extent (there originally was going to be no guitar for that band)... I've tried to whip out my old 5-string for shows but I get yelled by fans that want to see the 9 in action. I imagine it will be the same when I have the 11 and try to bring the 9 out... hahaha. As for your hand, it may just be adjustment and perhaps you are playing it too much (or you played your 4/5/6 too much before) and your muscle memory is having a hard time readjusting. Though I'm no expert, I would say ease up on the playing time on the new 7, if you've been playing it a lot take it easy and just play it a little bit each day and increase that amount. Think of yourself like a runner, you wouldn't want to go from running a mile each day to running 5 miles everyday after... Just let your hands get some adjustment. Of course, I can't see your fingers but I assume you are playing with your tips of your fingers and you have your thumb planted in the middle. If you are wearing a strap put it up a little higher too (just for now). That's about all I can think of. Hope that helps. |
Whens the solo cd coming out Jean?!
It's waiting for an 11 string. I have tons of stuff recorded but nothing is really finalized yet. Next year sometime. Thanks for the interest. |
Do you ever use any double/triple octaved basses?
|
Hello Jean

I've been playing Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time a lot lately.
I got deals with Conklin and Accugroove and I have a few with other bass makers. I assume it's because of my talent, but both Conklin and Accugroove have told me that they get people contacting them about their instruments/cabs because they heard/saw me playing them. At the NAMM show, I've walked into booths to try gear, played for a few minutes (which draws a big crowd to the booth) the owner of the company freaks out and offers me some free gear. That's happened a couple of times too. I don't know what advice to give you - just kick butt on your instrument and get your name out there. I love the SNES and have it hooked up now. I've been trying to find some RPGs (Mystic Quest, FF2, Secret of Mana, Lufia 2, Shadowrun etc.) - just got 7th Saga and Paladin's Quest. I also have a PS2 and was going to pickup a gamecube again when the new Zelda came out (but since it's been delayed I might wait for the revolution). Right now I'm playing Equinox on the SNES (tryng to beat it), God of War or Tekken 5. hahaha. Any of you who want to donate some old SNES games to me... hook me up!!! I'll put them to good use. haha. |
Do you ever use any double/triple octaved basses?
I don't have any... I'd like to get one. I tried Steuart Liebig's 12-string Fodera at the last NAMM and it was pretty fun. I also tried Michael Manring's 10. Maybe one day, I'll have a custom double octaved 9. :D |
Ah man, thanks. That's what I thought.
I've not touched it today. Playing through the pain doesn't seem a very good idea, seeing as I'm sure you and everyone else here feels the same way, that my hands are one of the most important things to me. Last thing I want to do is ruin them. The strap isn't so much of an issue (I've been playing seated mostly), but yes, my hand placement is fine. Ah well, I'll see how it goes! :) :smash: |
I also have a PS2 and was going to pickup a gamecube again when the new Zelda came out (but since it's been delayed I might wait for the revolution).
*Shameful post* Want to buy my gamecube? I've hardly been playing any games at all (I haven't seen much TV, either, come to think of it), and when I do, it's with my Dreamcast. |

dreamcast was the best system that was ever made. i wish that saga had a better marketing scheme for them. then they might still be around.

AH the revolution! :D I'm waiting for that one.. and I LOVE it that I can play zelda on that one :smoke: I was thinking about buying a game cube, just because of Zelda and SuperSmash Bros. Melee |

They just contact you one day and ask if you'd like a deal, and you agree to use their products, or is it very official and you have to fill out forms and let them know what gear of theirs you use, and what gear of other companies you will be using? Also, when you have a deal, do you get all of their gear free? And, do you have guidelines such as having to use their gear at shows, or having limits on what gear besides theirs you can use? And one last thing, I don't know why I said Super, but I meant to ask if you liked N64. |
Random question: How does the guitarist in NR tune? Sounds like a 6 in standard, but I can't quite tell...
|
*Shameful post*

LEC, from the NR site, it looks like Jean's guitarist uses a 7 in standard?
Correct me if I'm wrong :p :smash: |
LEC, from the NR site, it looks like Jean's guitarist uses a 7 in standard?
Correct me if I'm wrong :p :smash:
7 stringer yes, no doubt he uses 6 stringers aswell though. could very well be drop A he's using though, I'd have to listen to some mp3s, I'll edit in a mo.... yup, sounds like a good old B standard to me |

Edit: I'm not trying to sound like a dick with what I said, I am familiar with some of your solo stuff and that you do use the 9 for good reason on it, but if people are upset that don't use it live with Nuclear Rabbit, then it seems people (I'm not saying all people, but some) are just going for an image, the guy with the 9 string bass, not the music. |

lowsound
I have a dreamcast too, but it's in storage. I should pull that one out... don't have that many games for it though. |
